School Days

Based on the fully animated game by 0verflow infamous for its violent scenes. A shy and unconfident teenager has become very accepting at only stealing glances at a cute girl as they ride the same trolley each morning on their way to their high school. At least until Saionji Sekai surprises Itou Makoto and chances to get a peek at a photo-snap of the beautiful Katsura on his cell-phone. After evilly teasing Mokoto about his forlorn crush, Sekai offers to support him in his romance. So after many Makoto-pep-talks and lots of scheming, the three become close friends. Close enough that Makoto braves asking Katsura out on date. And she agrees. Later that day, Makoto finds a quiet moment express his thanks for all support that Sekai has offered him, and makes clear his intent on finding away to reply her kindness. But he is totally unprepared and very surprised at the reward that Sekai has chosen. Sekai steals a long kiss from his lips, before breaking away to run for the trolly. Sekai turns and wishes Makoto well on his date.

Here is the ending part of School Days

(not for the squeamish or faint of heart...or people who haven't seen the series or the ending yet):

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

After moving into the quiet town of Hinamizawa, Maebara Keiichi spends his days blissfully in school often playing games with his local friends. However, appearances can be deceiving. One fateful day, Keiichi stumbles upon news of a murder that had occurred in Hinamizawa. From this point on, horrific events unfold in front of Keiichi, as he soon learns his close friends may not be all that they seem. Based on the amateur mystery game by 7th Expansion, the story is told in a series of different scenarios.

Here is a collection of scenes from Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni

(not for the squeamish or faint of heart...or people who haven't seen the series or the ending yet):

I would say that Higurashi gets my vote. It is true that in School Days no one expected the ending but still I think that Higurashi was more twisted through out the whole series (1st season). What reallky struck me was Shion/Mion's breakdown.

Now that was Horror.

To me, this came down to which was the lesser evil. Two psychotic girls and one very stupid guy, or every main character going insane and killing the majority of the others in one story or another? Decisions...=/

I'll start off with School Days. You can basically sense the twistedness growing after the first episode or two, ending with a climax no one can easily forget. Sure, the ending was slightly unexpected (but he really had it coming =/)...but I guess the debate's wording was slightly vague. If we are talking about plot twists, School Days wins...but the "twisted" I'm thinking about is how messed up the characters are. School Days had some psycho moments, but those paled in comparison to Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, my next point.

Let me first start off by saying Higurashi was a brilliant psychological thriller (and probably the only one I will ever watch >_>). But man, did it scare the living ____ out of me at times. The things that happened in the series were things I would never thought of doing (the video in the spoiler is a pretty good summary). The characters (for the most part) seem normal at the start, but that quickly spirals downward into psychotic people driven to kill and have no regard for mercy. Higurashi was purely twisted right from the start and right until the very end.

Winner: Higurashi

But the real question is this: Which one is more twisted? Killer lolis or killer high schoolers? o_O

No...the question was about the twistedness...Highurashi wins in that. It's not the surprise factor, nor the scare factor that makes a show twisted. In Higurashi you have a kids whom one or two turns into a killer psychopath ever 4-6 episode. It's just seems unbelievable...actually they have to use supernatural elements to make the story "believeable".
In contrast School days we have two clingy girlfriends. One turns crazy from the thought of breaking up while the other has murderous intents after the guy was an @sshole to her. The only thing that makes it twisted the crazed girl's reaction in the end. In shortit has no chance against a show building on twistedness like Higurashi.

i was expecting HnNKn to be freaky, but i saw school days when i was still young and naive and it tore my heart out, shredded it, rolled the shreds in salt, pinned the shreds back together and shoved it right back in so that i may wallow in the misery that i felt was a bigger lie than the cake.

Yep, pretty much, I was pretty startled considering the rest of the series, but I can't really say it was bad.. It was.. actually.. pretty nice : 3
Protip: I don't really check the forums anymore, so if you want something, take it on my profile.

school days ending was simply surprising, nothing else.

In Higurashi, the spiral of madness affected the entire cast of characters.....

How exactly was School Days twisted? Makoto was a just normal boy who bite off more than he can chew and chew it anyways.

Higurashi is in a totally different league and shouldn't even be compared to School Days at all.

uhh.....how is school days not twisted???? school days is already twisted right from the anime page on MAL.....look you can check it yourself....nowhere on the school days anime page does it say its a psychological thriller/ horror....that in of itself is pretty twisted for those anime viewers who do not want to watch a horror/ psychological thriller...as for higurashi your already expecting the anime to be horror/twisted anime series as it says that in the tags and in the synopsis it hints at it. so how is school days twisted? it was twisted anime for the those not seeking the horror from an anime series...and that was completely unexpected from school days....thus making it quite twisted at least for the likes of me

i will agree that higurashi is definitely the better anime series in this competition...but it terms of twisted? yes higurashi was indeed quite scary and did mess with your brain....but you already saw it coming...as for school days....when you begin to watch the anime....no where does it hint that the ending will come out the way it did....in some cases the ending of a series is what determines it for me...and i gotta say....right off the info page of school days....its definitely is the more twisted one.

in summary, if school days hadnt had that "surprise" factor my vote would have probably gone to higurashi....people you have to remember....twisted doesnt just mean killing and massive bloodshed....twisted can mean a variety of things....including makoto's lust for women that he basically did every girl in the anime series....and from a normal persons view that would be pretty f----- up to do....or another way to put it...twisted.

Lets see.. assuming people here are well versed with the internet and anime (cough "source of adaptation" cough) they pretty much know what they are getting themselves into when you are watching the anime.

As for those who are naive i meant innocent viewers who just had to watch this anime titled "School Days" (wow, what an original name for an anime) without any clue at all to it's origins, I ask you this; where was this psychological thriller or horror aspect that you speak of in this anime? If you weren't turned off by the fact that VERY DUMB GIRLS are dumping themselves onto Makoto (lucky bastard) which occurred midway through the series, chances are you are already used to the clique idiotic violence in your anime and the last few episode won't really be a "shocker" or twisted anymore. If indeed you are turned off by these DUMB DUMB girls, I suggest you drop School Days and go for some real romance like ef or even H20. The drama tag is more than enough for School Days.

For me, i knew what i was getting into. School Days was pretty synonymous with THE School Days that i tried to install a few years ago and failed due to patching issues. The whole thing was a bore fest with some redeeming moments as it approaches it's conclusion (<3 Kokoro). As for Higurashi, sure they was enough warning in the synopsis but the viewing pleasure wasn't diminished one single bit at all. Even when those expected scenes occurs, I was still wondering why and how they did it. The horror factor in Higurashi was always there (till she appeared..) and to me this is true psychological thriller/ horror.

uhh i didnt remember this debate was which series is the more pyschological thriller/horror....this debate is about which anime is more twisted....and an individual has to be pretty twisted to not think that school days is not twisted....as im gonna go with the general demographic and go ahead and say.....MOST PEOPLE DID NOT SEE THE END OF SCHOOL DAYS COMING....you have to approach this debate as someone who has not played the visual games etc. cause it will only skew your decision.....i mean at this point the only way to know school days is twisted is through forums :P look im saying who would do a thorough research of an anime series before watching an anime? not many....i bet many viewers were like oh...this seems like a nice series.....i mean the picture depicts happy people...the synopsis doesnt give anything away regarding how twisted it is....but when you actually watch it and find out for yourself.....i know many people will agree with me when i say...it will destroy for the next couple days....and for those who dont...well i guess your just adept to horror stuff.

im going to say this again.....higurashi is definitely the better series...but in terms of it being twisted? yes it is pretty twisted.....but school days had the X factor of it progressively building up to possibly one of the most twisted endings in anime history with respect to the rest of the series.....yes higurashi is the better series....yes higurashi is the more horrifying anime series....yes higurashi is the more psychological thriller series....but when it comes to which anime is more twisted? im going to go with school days...

actually when you think about it.....people brains being bashed in with a metal bat is pretty twisted....

To me, «twisted» is a synonim to «messed up», where messed up takes place in the head (brain) and therefor is psychologic. That said, Higurashi was ALL about that. Conclusion, Higurashi is ALL twisted.

Man...Kotonoha's actions not even borders Shion's madness and obession.
I think seeing somone trusting a knife into her neck several times repeatedly is much more disgusting and twisted than that "nice boat" scene in School days.
And yes, School days isn't horror or thriller. The only thing is acceptable maybe the psichological.

I have to go with School Days.

Obviously Higurashi is more violent, of course. However, generally the characters act the way they do for understandable- if fucked up- reasons, and in general are likeable and/or redeemable. You really keep hoping that this time, somehow, they'll do the right thing and no one will die.

School Days, on the other hand, is the most depressing display of pathetic and unlikeable characters I have ever seen. That's part of its appeal, of course, but it remains that you definitely feel like everyone deserves what they get. Not a single likeable or decent human being in the whole cast; that's impressive.

Basically, School Days is more fucked up because of the characters' willingness to do the wrong thing every time even when they know it makes them a bad person, while the characters in Higurashi generally just react to fucked up situations.

Actually, In Higurashi every lead's a bit of crazy. And it makes the thing more disturbing/disorted. If anything in school days the girls do those disturbing things because of the situation. Not because of the
In School days we get normal human beings. It's a "romantical story", it doesn't need shining heroes. One of the flaws of the animes(other than always bringing up 17-year-old superveteran fighters:P) is they're always try to show every character as a bit of hero. It sometimes has definite evils and minor gag characters, but the audience has used to watch shows with a cast full of "heroes". While heroes takes only the minority of people and people can learn from "normal humans" too, not just from overpowered heroes.
