The action and excitement of the previous episode is being dragged down by the overuse of EXPOSITION in this one. This Master lady Flamme talks way too much, on and on and on, tediously explaining every little thing about concealment of mana and demons in this world.... while in the last episode, we were able to understand both concepts pretty easily by the demon's just speaking out in disbelief as they were killed by Stark and Fern. It's not that she shouldn't have any lines, it's just that it's way too long and way too much.
What makes it worse is the monotone of the Japanese cast. I'm going to try watching the English dub in the next episode to see if it's better. In my experience English voice actors are almost always far better, but there's certain intonations they do that sometimes don't work.... it's gotta be better than this though.

At least the way Frieren took down the loli was exactly the way I figured I would do it against her a couple episodes ago. Good job Frieren. Now try a smile.

“Frieren. Just as demons deceive humankind with words, you must use your mana to deceive demons.
What an episode, diving into past history of Flamme and Frieren and insight on deception.

The flow of time is brought back and further defined, from ancient architecture similar to Rome to the medieval age with fortified cities and castles is a subtle yet direct impact of said time. For over a thousand years, so much has advanced since that first meeting between Flamme and Frieren. Remember that flower spell back at the tower with the blue flowers at Himmel’s state? That same spell has so much more depth and significance since it was the same spell that Flamme loved so much, leading to Frieren keeping that spell with her and making it more heartfelt every time it is used.

Demons see mana as a source of pride and their way of projecting power and strength, just like how humans use wealth and authority to exert power. Pride is everything for a demon, it’s a deadly sin for a reason. Deception is always a key factor in winning warfare, regardless of era. The moment Frieren revealed her mana to a higher volume, the realization kicked in for Aura. She let her pride and confidence get to her in believing she had the upper hand when in fact, she lost from the very beginning. 500 years is impressive, but to an elf mage who had lived for over a millennium with concealing mana her entire life, she was in another league by tenfold.

Waited for this episode and it delivered like a bomb being dropped. Left me tearful too for some reason haha.
Frieren Friday!

Exactly, everything here is connected so well. Things that seem meanigless, are so important. Just like us, sometimes, when we say "My favorite food is" for people outside is nothing, but sometimes, for the person, that food may have a special connection. Like the food was made by the person grandma etc and the passage of time here in this anime, always hits me in the feels. Must be because im getting older and im "old".

This episode all around is simply peak. The Flamme backstory really fleshed out her character and connecting back with the recurring theme of the flowers. The music as Frieren reveals her INSANE amount of mana goes soooo hard. Aura trying to resist the scales into the 1st person POV from her rolling head is the chef's kiss.

Roll credits? This episode was perfect. All that build up was so satisfying despite us viewers knowing where this was leading towards. Also a sad, yet adorable backstory.

As a little side note. It is weirdly funny how ancient high-fantasy worlds always are "sword- and-sandal" ancient. Last time I saw it was in Shingeki no Kyoujin. Sandals equals the way before time. XD

I cried because this show is so good.
"He isn't dead, San. He is here with us now, telling us, it's time for both of us to live."
"And slowly... You come to realize..."
"They come without asking, and then they leave just the same.
But once you meet them, even if nobody ever knows it, that encounter will change your life for the better."

I love this constant back and forth in the series, whenever we see Frieren and the heroes group and then coming back to 'now'. Flamme is such a cool and interesting character.
The fight between Frieren and Aura was badass, Flamme's way of concealing the mana is quite the 'tricky' but genius way for beating the demons.

Never in a million years did I think my favorite episode would be a flashback episode, but here I am.

The audience is supposed to hate demons, not because of who they are but what they represent. The demons, organized under a punishing meritocracy force others to chase power for survival. This power struggle kills Frieren and Flamme on the inside and distracts them from what they truly want to dedicate their life to. Frieren’s mind is illuminated by Himmel when he repeats the same words Frieren told Flamme all those years ago, words spoken by somebody who wished to free the world from the shackles of war.

Thus, the vision concludes, and we see Aura, the culmination of the arrogant, power-hypnotized, and world-decaying ideology that drove Frieren to isolation all those years ago. But Frieren is not the same as before, she is now a “powerful mage,” having faced war and still fighting for peace. She now puts an end to her past by telling Aura to end her own life (a fitting conclusion to a self-killing worldview).

I can't believe Frieren hit Aura with the age old "kys", fucking insane lol.

Its nice seeing more Flamme like this, especially with her at Flamme's grave with the field of flowers she taught her how to cast. She taught her very well as well very clearly, because Frieren's mana unsuppressed is scary af.

I couldn't remember if Aura died in this episode or the last one but it was this one checking the episode comments. Amazing episode i thought one of two things would have happened and that being A. Frieren soul gets taken over and Fern and Stark save her in some magical plot twist, or B. Frieren was hiding her Aura as her trainer taught her too and B was right Aura got shit on and i cannot be happier for it, Amazing episode bravo.
