The transformation were alright,I guess.A Daemonia appears and they fight it,and right as Akari is going to finish it off Akari remembered her cousin. However Akari was able to stay sane even after regaining her memories,so the cat & bird comment on how they see potential in her.

Actually I thought the transformations were horrible and had very little personality to them outside of the sun girl. The fact that none of them majorly change other than she does is pretty disappointing, the sun girl's change actually makes her character design alot better.

That was super epic!!! The crow is starting to remind me of Kyuubey hahahaha

This is totally like Madoka where it's like the whole "taking over" part ie. the witches and the person not being able to come back.

I really like how they use thier powers as a team in battle; MC for close combat, Ice girl for snipeing, shield girl for defense, and Moon girl for support/restricting enemy movements.

The minor arcana are the cards that have a more direct correlation with some of the elements: wands-fire, swords-air, cups-water, pentacles--earth & money. The major arcana tend to have more complex meanings and I don't know that the correlations they are suggesting would necessarily be agreed to by most of the tarot community, however there are some visual elements that could lead you to that conclusion. I checked five different decks (Waite/Coleman, Witches, Golden Dawn, Old Path, Robin Wood) and the main tie ins with the attributes in this show would be the standard depiction of a dog and a wolf on the Moon card, and water on the Star card. As for Temperance--there is nothing to suggest any direct connection with money, takoyaki, or octopus of any sort. This show is probably not going to give you any kind of deep insight into the tarot, although the little summary of a single card's regular and reversed readings at the end is just that--a little (superficial) summary.

i always tend to kind of dislike exposition episodes because they feel a bit rushed more often than not, but this one was okay i guess? i really do like the characters a lot. i've got to be honest, i'm not the biggest fan of the really serious, stoic type characters but i think seira is cool. she seems to just be a little cold and guarded, and that's fine (and understandable). the other girls are very cute.

i... like the art style a lot. but i can understand why others may dislike it. the heads could be just a little smaller ahaha.

as far as madoka comparisons go, is it necessarily a bad thing? mahou shoujo series are always thematically similar to other examples of the genre in many ways. all of them call back to older, popular series. madoka isn't old, of course, but it was very popular, so. i can see why others would want to ride on the success of it. i don't have much of a problem.

because if they kill the demons with their magic and whatnot, people associated with that killed person will have their memories wiped. on the other hand if one of the girls just went up to the person and stabbed them, newspapers everywhere would explode with headlines saying "random man murdered, no suspects found."

no, it isnt that.
If you remeber right the bad guy in the first episode was basicly walkring trough fire so its more then likely that convetional weapons cant kill the person, so they need this magic thing.

Already revealed. Their role is to kill Daemonica, which incidently means they will kill the person as well. The only mystery left is Akari's mother, who probably just died to a Daemonica. Please stop comparing this to Madoka. You are only setting yourself up for disappointment.

I think you got me wrong. What I meant was that there might be more to the organisation, than we currently know. Probably some kind of dark secret, and Taiyou's mother probably just became demonica herself.

That's certainly true we don't know everything yet at this point, but they really did blunder this aspect of the show. This could have easily had a great amount of emotional impact since in all your happy-go-lucky shows, the person does come back unharmed after their "monster form" is defeated. I'm not sure if there's going to be another big reveal to be honest. The animals talking near the end of the episode already said that after she crosses this mental hurdle (killing people), they expect great things from her.

That being said, I can't emphasize how much I love this shows OST and art direction.

I was hoping for great things from this anime but after seeing the second episode, I'm not sure I like it. The pacing felt incredibly off, as if they were rushing to animate as much as they could into this single episode.

I agree with you. As much as I totally dig the artstyle and tarot cards, the pacing and direction of this episode was a little suspect.

Scenes either felt too short, with missing details, or too long, with no meaningful things being discussed in that time. However, I really felt they dropped the ball on the dark reveal. The fact that killing Daemonica means killing the person was poorly presented. Not only was it presented in passing as a sort of fact of the magical system, they really tried too hard to leverage Fuyuna's death, so much that it ended up being a little cheesy. Not only was the relationship between Fuyuna and Akari basically not developed at all before they decided to write her off

I've heard something similar before on something, and I dont' understand why every relationship with one's close family has to be developed first. I felt for Akari extremely when she went through that. I understand what it means to have a cousin you're close to. I didn't need the show to waste time on explaining that just to have her die. Can't some relationships just be implied? Why does everything have to have buildup?

There's only so much time thy get to run with the show, so they can't sit there and be a super expository of information. Fuyuna was a plot device to show Akari the horrors of what being a Tarot user are. If they had taken episodes to show more of the relationshp, then that would have meant even more time waiting for Akari to become a magical girl. Which would just be dragging the show out. The point of this show is not to debate whether or not Akari should become a magical girl (unlike a different series that people keep on comparing this to for some reason). I can't really say what the show's aim is just yet, but I know that's not the point.

I applaud them for not wasting time on something which is a small (but still very important) plot point.

Probably because being family members doesn't necessarily mean you are necessarily close. I have a friend who basically is in a constant state of war with his sister. Also how did Akari SHOW she was close to Fuyuna exactly? She called her when she was stuck in vines? That's about all we have to go on. For about 5 minutes, we have happy Fuyuna and Akari. For the following 10 minutes, we have brooding Fuyuna, who is jealous about how Akari attracts all the attention, so much to the point where she is willing to make a wish with a Daemonica to kill her. Does that imply a closeness to the relationship. All I see here is a superficial family "friendship" will deep levels of underlying envy from Fuyuna. Thus, when it came down to wipping Fuyuna off and using her a plot device, it didn't work for me.

I mentioned this in the Madoka threads as well. Emotional investment or buldiup is not TIME dependent. You can develop a strong character relationship in a very short amount of time (1/2 an episode even) if you put them through events that really show this (i.e. saving a person in danger, helping them get through a real life crisis, providing support that no one else could have provided...)

Regardless of what the show means, at least to me, they squandered this aspect of the show. This reveal could have had a great deal of consequences (in which happy go lucky mahou shoujo do the people who turn in monsters actually die?). By front loading the "suffering and pain" without any context, viewers like me just tune it out or by the end of it, just get used to it. Because context really matters if you are going for this edgy, emotional side. I can easily reference Symphogear (I only watched the first 1/3 of the first season) because the show's characterization is zilch and the situations and fighting are so ridiculous that when people die, I ended up laughing instead of feeling sorry for them. That's why Kill Bill or Jango are treated as comedies, despite their body count.

I'm honestly more interested in the father.. If the father is deceased, why was it not even so much as mentioned while they where visiting moms grave? If hes missing, is he the big evil boss? If there truly is no trace, was her father a monster, making her not only inheriting her mothers card powers, but her fathers dark powers? Or, somehow the mother saving one of the monsters by turning them into her?

Regardless, shes considered special, and the op even shows her being enveloped by the darkness (which we where given one possible interpretation this episode, although the fact she stabilized seems to say that isn't what it was about; If she can be stable killing her family with her own hands, it doesn't seem like strangers are going to be any worse) I'm expecting her to get taken in by the darkness, and eventually regain herself while acquiring the power of purification.

Transformations = 5 seconds, no more.
I'm still scarred from that StrikerS episode where 6-8 people transformed and it took up more than half the episode...

I'm all for awesome poses though.

I also wish that they would draw the characters in different clothing. Why is Akari still wearing her old school uniform?

Something does not feel right in this episode: I wonder why there is zero mention of what happens to Taiyou's old friends and classmates. The change of school seemed to just take place so casually. We don't even get to see any goodbye and then everything is about the new school...
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Well this series has certainly taken a turn for the interesting.

I can't say much for the transformations, since they're rather simplistic, but the seinen crowd seems to hate those anyway.

I can't name a single character I dislike at this point. The blue one is kind of cold but she's not being a complete jerk like I expected. She's not acting like she's better than Akari. The circumstances, what they have to do, make me understand her harshness.

I really like the blond fang girl. Can't put my finger on it but she reminds me of someone from another anime... possibly a Kugimiya character.

And what circumstances these are. I'm surprised it was simply memory erasure and not complete time manipulation or something like that. There's bound to be evidence of these people's existences... especially if they're a parent. Photos, videos, distant relatives.

The fight scene was pretty impressive. I wouldn't have minded seeing its resolution, but from a story standpoint I like how it went. I actually feel for Akari and her dilemma. If this show continues to keep my interest, I may shed a tear or two in the future.

As much as it pains me to say it, I can see that. Judging from the goth loli girl's reaction to the raven about people's feelings. At first I was suspicious that there might be something evil afoot, but now I see this as a "necessary cruelty" thing.

And that part about how these monsters have had an influence on history... Ugh. This show is just TRYING to make people scream "It's like Madoka!"

But whatever, it's still loads more interesting to me. 8/10.

About pacing, this doesn't have enough time or money to go monster of the week mode for too long like Precure or Sailor Moon, it feels rushed an awkward like Nanoha's first season beginning, where things relevant are revealed in a very non subtle way just because the show didn't get money and time at all to make the storytelling great.

I like the potential of this as a Mahou Shoujo just because the fights might look cool and I watch Mahou Shoujo anime for this, who cares about plot anyways? The show will be fine as long as the money goes towards animating fights.

Now that they revealed that there are 21 warriors you can just deduce the last boss will be from the Death arcana just because the others already fit other possible boss roles. Temperance girl didn't make sense at all if you relate her power to her arcana directly, healing would be more fitting, and her personality doesn't fit "Temperance" at all, maybe they are using some very far-fetched design and obscure meaning. I am not expecting any more precise depictions of the others at all after this...

^ It seems like the bird and cat will be contending for anime's next Kyuubei.

Although Akari becoming part of this organization seemed a bit rushed, the main gist of what's happening has finally come to light. In order to save lives, they must take them. They must kill victims of the Daemonia in order to stop them. It must've been an eye opener when Akari regained her memories, especially when she said that it was as if she killed Fuyuna twice. I have a feeling it can only get darker from here, now I'm hooked in.

Two words: Rip Off. I couldn't help but laugh at all the similarities to Madoka Magica. I'm not say this is a bad show, but come on now this was funny. I mean the demons in this show are made exactly like, the witches in Madoka. Also that crow is acting exactly like kyubbi. There are some many things but I don't feel like noting them. Overall this episode was a good laugh.
