I didn't like how unrealistic certain aspects of it were, which jarred my experience.

- Kung fu grandpa was a bit over the top
- The final chapters with main character doing all this lawyer stuff, was a bit ridiculous to me, felt like forced drama and not realistic law-wise
- I wanted the mom to hook up with the dad, and was a bit disappointed when she turned out to be evil
- the landlady being married to the old mangaka guy was just ridiculous
- nicchi was extremely annoying.

Also finding out glasses girl had main character's child was somewhat offensive to me. Its very hard to raise a child as a single parent. she just got abandoned and she seems happy?

I don't know if I was seeing things but is Kanau's younger brother forced into cross dressing secretly by his father? That's all kinds of fucked up.

All in all the manga left me with mixed feelings, the twists that took place made M.Night shamalanaynyn look like an amateur.

I loved the story with Kouta and Kanau, they felt cozy and heartwarming but everything else was like insane.

I have to completely agree with you. Why did Haruka have to pull the same thing as Nozomi? She already knew the situation with Nozomi and she knew how much his daughter meant to him. Not much of a surprise that he went to get her back. Haruka couldn't wait, and had to just disappear before he could get back? Thats a big red card for Haruka.

Okay, here is how I see this:

Haruka loves Kouta. Knows the story behind Nozomi and Kouta. Wants to do something nice for him (aka have sex) that she is doing for his benefit, not for her only personal reasons (like Nozomi). Starts to have a little regret that she did it, then when Kouta has some new sense of determination all thanks to Haruka to go rescue his daughter, she realizes that she is completed fubar. I mean, you just gave up your potential virginity to a guy that you loved, who then shat all over your feelings because he can only associate sex with spite or pity.

So, knowing that, she fled the house and only afterwards realized she was preggers. While she still loves Kouta, she has his son whom she can remember him by.

Kouta later now has somehow been able to get past the whole Nozomi experience and thinks that he can properly respond to Haruka's feelings (hopefully positively). I think he will be able to accept it since he has experience with getting a kid dumped on him with no notice, plus he recognizes that Haruka is/was in love with him.

Great ending to a great manga. The only think that could improve it was if the two of them have met but it's pretty much implied they'll get together anyway. Again, just like Kono Oneesan wa Fiction desu! I've been reading horrid reviews about the ending of these manga but it turns out both are just mostly people not getting the underlying problems properly and why the manga has to take the route that it took to get to its ending.

I saw that most of the complains were about the land lady and sensei but I honestly didn't see anything wrong about it if you consider their circumstances. It wasn't nearly as forced as Usagi Drop for example, which was just plain gross.

Nozomi is really a bitch though.. at least to Kouta. I'm actually quite amazed the other guy still has the gall to marry her after knowing all of her past deeds and her outburst against Kouta. If it was me I'd take my kind and run away as fast and as far away as possible from that woman.

Good ending to a rage-inducing story arc!

Here are my interpretations of certain events in this last chapter.

When Kanau entered her junior high school, she had the flash back about graduation day of elementary school. There's this scene where she hugged her mother under the sakura tree. Then she turned back and walked towards her father. Now, if you compare the two panels, one of her dad and one of her mom, you will find that you can see Kouta's face but not Nozomi's. And why's that significant? Because that's Kanau's flashback.

I think the author was trying to show us how Evil Mom was fading from Kanau's mind.

Then finally, when Kanau introduced herself in her class, she said "Morisaki", not "Yukimura".

Remember what Kouta said before about Kanau retaining the Yukimura name? Kanau supposedly didn't want to cut off the last connection she had with her mother. But with the "Morisaki" introduction and the blanking of Nozomi's face, I think she's ready to cut that last tie.

What I can't figure out is Haruka's ending.

Isn't an omake supposed to be non-canon? Not officially part of the manga?

So can we consider Haruka working as a pro mangaka and raising Kouta's son to be an official truth? I hope so. She deserved a good ending. That is to say, she deserved to meet Kouta when he's ready to accept her love. I think they would make a great couple.

And I hope Nozomi gets cancer in the second season, IF there's going to be a second season. The painful kind that has no cure.

And yeah, I agree with those who said Nicchi deserved some kind of punishment.

Like Kouta should break his knees or something. Or whatever they did to spies during war time.

Think about it. HE WAS PERFECTLY WILLING TO HELP NOZOMI KIDNAP KANAU! He didn't even bother warning Kouta. He didn't even tell Kouta why Nozomi left him in the first place and help him get closure.

I wonder why the author thought his lolicon side was funny. It would have been funnier if they sent him to jail.

I finished reading the manga last night and I had a dream. About a perfect second season.

Where Kanau's brother runs away from home and Nozomi to live with Kanau and finally Nozomi, while suffering from some painful disease or injury, realizes that a selfish bitch like her could never have a real family.

I mean, of course, the father comes to pick up his son but maybe some sort of arrangement can be made where the kid brother stays with his onee-chan (and Kouta) as a real family for the weekends or something and slowly drifts away from Nozomi.

Good thing, Kouta and Kanau were together. Kouta will be Haruka's assistant but both don't have a clue about it. And now Souta, the story repeat itself.
Not a great ending since I prefer if Haruka just stayed there and end up with Kouta.
It was a decent at the very least.

But the author failed to give me a reason to forgive that Nozomi bitch. I feel sorry for her stupid husband.
What a horrible character, just a bitch for the sake of being a bitch.

Great series. I've read enough manga to go through the usual tropes and plot twists that I'm fine with the story. Hope there's a sequel because the author has shown that there's a *lot* you can do with not-so-traditional families. Haruka could use some character development, and Kanau's entering the traditional manga tumultuous years of high school.

Thank you for showing that, it makes me so much more happy with the ending, even if I the author should have showed us them meeting again.
The whole sex scene they had still seems really off to me.

I was about to give this anime a 6/10 since all they did way toy around Kouta's feeling. The author really messed up his character development.

I'm just glad they he didn't go full retard and give a bad ending.

So basically, Kouta had sex with Haruka and impregnated her. Thus, SOUTA.

Okay that's a good ending at least.

I started this manga through a recommendation of someone else. I always disregarded it because i thought it was going to be some lolli father x daughter story and that doesn't appeal to me.

Glad I read it, it wasn't what i thought it was and I thought it was great.

I was very surprised when that short sensei arc started. Around then it really felt like it turned into more of a drama which i thought saved the series from being just passable. Not a big fan of the sensei x landlady thing though, for similar reasons stated in my first paragraph. That and her airheadedness was cruel to those around her, her never wising up and noticing his feelings, even after he had moved on wrote her off as a bad character for me. Sad really, I had grown to like her a lot right before that arc began.

The mother drama felt a little forced. I do like that rage inducing drama when it fits and the author did a pretty good job at making his audience hate her... I just think the story still would have been better without it, even if he never ended up with her.

I could ramble on a lot longer about every character and arc, but all in all I thought it was a pretty solid manga for the themes it presented.
