They couldn't have picked a better animation medium really for this art style, in my opinion. Watching it in the cinema with that sound design really completes the experience.

I haven't finished the first anime adaptation, so I was quite surprised that the main plot line was focused on Ryota and his background.

good to see slam dunk back, but i prefer pretty much everything in the 90s version over this apart from the animation i guess. cgi wasn't amazing like lupin III: the first but it was still good. doesn't even begin to compare to the 90s aesthetic and voice acting though, especially sakuragi's voice damn i missed that a lot. been a while since i read the manga so i don't remember much from the ending but wow my guy miyagi as the mc. also reanimated a bunch of stuff. 90s anime is a 9/10 for me but this'll be a 7/10, good movie and i'm glad toei remembered about this lmao but definitely could've been better.

I guess I'm the odd one here; I gave it a score of 6/10. I'm totally conflicted after watching the movie. You could say I'm totally biased since I grew up religiously watching the 90s adaptation and I read the manga during the pandemic. The match between Shohoku and Sannoh felt lifeless. The voice acting isn't that bad, but it didn't have the same intensity as the 90s adaptation. Yeah, I know it's Miyagi's POV, but damn, remember that scene between Haruko and Hanamichi where he confesses his love for basketball? I waited and waited for that scene to happen, but it didn't happen. Probably Takehiko Inoue decided to omit it from the story since it'll never have the same impact due to the fact that it focuses on Miyagi's backstory. I still somewhat enjoy the movie, and I hope it'll have a proper TV remake so they can focus on the tournament.

Epilogue was stupid. Never cared a bit about the small guy's story.
Weirdly enough, he was the main character of the movie and not Sakuragi.. odd choice. 6.5/10 for me

Damn this was one of the best movies ever, Really enjoyed Miyagi's perspective on it all but I kinda wish it was more about Sakuragi but since it's by the author himself so I guess this is canon too. It fulfilled all the hype and nailed the scenes I was expecting.
Very very nice 3DCG tbvh, Thank you Toei!

Just watched it and after finishing it I think it's a excellent movie, but if you're a manga reader you're probably just not gonna enjoy it as a person who's never watched/read slam dunk. Which doesn't sit well with me, while I think the movie is really good (The ending sequence alone is just crazy). It's really hard to get invested into the characters in just 2 hours when the main focus is on Miyagi. Don't get me wrong it's really good which is why if you never read/watched Slam dunk you'll be satisfied, but it really just falls apart for the rest of the cast. Also, the epilogue is really my main gripe with the movie. Like it's cool that Miyagi is now playing college basketball in America, but what about Sakuragi back pain which was highlight of the 2nd part of the movie? THE AUDIENCE DOESNT KNOW IF HE EVER RECOVERED FROM A CAREER ENDING INJURY, LIKE CMON DIRECTOR WHAT ARE WE DOING?!?!?!? As a manga reader, I was fucking livid. I would have honestly preferred if they just cut out the America college basketball scene, and had closure for the rest of Shohoku. Yes, it's a Miyagi focused movie, but there are 4 other players on that court we got invested in don't just leave them out to dry like that man.

Still gonna give it a 9/10 cause even with it's fault it's hard to mess up slam dunk, but honestly just watch the anime/manga first because while the movie does give it justice. It's hard to cram in the best sports manga of all time in just 2 hours...

I only got into Slam Dunk this year, read the entire manga and loved it. Reignited my interest in basketball again after I lost interest these past couple of years. I tried watching the anime afterwards, but couldn't get into it. I was surprised that the anime didn't cover Sannoh, so was looking forward to seeing one of the coolest matches in the series finally animated with modern graphics.

I was shocked that this movie is Ryota focused, but I dig it. He felt super underutilized in the manga, and now he got a whole ass backstory which works for me.

CGI didn't bother me despite me noticing it, and the actual basketball plays looks super clean and flows nicely.

Overall, I'm cool with changes they did in order to fit this arc into one movie. Some omission I was kinda bummed, like Sakuragi figuring out Mikio can only do one move and destroying him (though they gave crumbs of that towards the end). Some parts that I didn't like in this arc were thankfully cut, like Masashi being a dick towards his brother. Despite the changes, they at least got the main points down, and boy I was grinning from start to finish feeling like a kid again. Glad I got to watch this and hoping for more Slam Dunk content in the future.

Never cared much for Miyagi honestly, I didn't even know he had an older brother who died or maybe I just don't remember. It's been what? 2 decades? since I've last seen the anime and he's been made the main character of this movie, if it was Sakuragi, it would've been less sad and dramatic and more comedy which is what I mostly love Slam Dunk for. Granted, that idiot was only in it initially to impress his crush and the other main character are more passionate with basketball but still. He was OG MC for a reason.

That said, Sakuragi made the winning shot! A buzzer-beater jumpshot that was passed to him by Rukawa! Oh man, my childhood right fucking here. I may have issues with Miyagi as the main perspective, but the visuals, that winning shot, and most importantly, the nostalgia. It was still great overall. I fucking love Slam Dunk!

If you watched Slam Dunk anime, the film loved you!
If you don´t watched it, you will like how minimum!!!

The Miyagi tragic past, he lost a father and a brother in his childhood, was the conductive thread in one of the most amazing basketball matchs, against Sannoh, favourites to win!....all the characters showed their cool points, titular team, with a Hanamichi how the star to me, always Hanamichi, sorry but he was and is unrepeatable!!

The last sequence, when both rivals ended in universities teams, was cool too....

8/10 to me

I've been waiting to watch this film for a while now. They really did the final arc justice, even adding in new original scenes (though it's been years since I've read the manga).

The CG was really good, I saw no issue with it throughout the film.

I wish we had a remake of the original series with the modern animation and artwork.

I always wanted to see the last game animated and I'm so pleased that they decided to create a movie for it after so many years. I don't know if the anime will ever get a remake but this movie alone was more than enough for me. The manga is incredible and I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it yet.

Excellent portrayal of basketball, and loved the Ryota back story! Was abit iffy on the CGI at first but the animation blend with CGI was beautiful! Really made the movements and plays feel like I was watching an actual basketball game

Overall really enjoyed this - I wish they would remake the anime! Miyagi was always my favorite so I'm so happy to see him as the main focus this time around.

Animation was solid and directing was very good. The mangaka directed this and he did a great job. It's a great throwback to the original series, even if it's the last match lol

8/10 solid all around and we need more sports anime!

I'm a little sad that they didn't include even a brief glimpse of the flashback between Rukawa and Sendoh's pickup game. That was a defining moment for Rukawa and explained the change in his game against Sannoh. But it's understandable because this is more focused on Ryota. Still a really great film.

They did a great job my making it about Miyagi. His backstory was well-written and gave all moment a bigger emotional impact. As always Sakuragi was the highlight of Shohoku with his amazing feat that motivated everyone and carried the momentum forward. The match was thrilling to watch. Overall, I love it even though the CGI don't have the same feel.

I really enjoyed this movie. Fast paced basketball action with impressive cinematography and fluid animation. It's been around 2 decades since I've finished the original Slam Dunk TV anime and now I've only just finished this movie today. I really missed this team from Shohoku.

I've never read the manga so I don't know what to expect from here forward. So apparently, this movie focused more on Ryouta as the MC and his backstory rather than Hanamichi. However, Hanamichi is still a star in this movie as I'm glad Hanamichi still managed to shine in the end. He brought the team back together with his high jumping ability back when there was a 20+ score difference during the game.

The final moments of the game were intense. So intense! I was having goosebumps and my muscles felt numb when I witnessed the final 10 seconds of the game, with the BGM cut off and only the suspenseful ticking sound of the clock can be heard as Kaede trusted Hanamichi and passed the ball to him only for Hanamichi to throw the ball before the timer goes to zero and Hanamichi scores the final shot. What a magnificent moment! I really wanted to see Hanamichi brag and gloat and celebrate at the end but nope....instead the final moments were brought back to Ryouta as he was the main focus, and as well as the Sannoh team experiencing their devastating loss. The Sannoh basketball team was incredibly strong and definitely champions but this must be their first loss which they couldn't believe.

I was really invested in this movie even if it was a 2-hour film. Their basketball game was phenomenal, and the Shohoku team was so impressive on their hard-earned victory! Everyone was amazing.

No complaints about the CGI. This was a beautifully animated movie with fast-paced basketball action. Slam Dunk has never looked so good in this kind of animation format while still retaining some good ol' humor from the original as it still makes me laugh seeing Hanamichi play around Coach Anzai's chin & cheeks. 😅

10/10 and nobody else can convince me otherwise to rate it anything lower. This is peak Slam Dunk!

With this sequel, the mangaka managed to close the gap more by touching on the past of Miyagi, the most ignored character in the first five imo.
CGI is good, but anime is definitely the best way to reflect the art style of the manga.
CGI allows us to better understand what is happening in the match and the actions of the characters, so I don't think the movie is completely bad.
The movie even touched on Miyagi's past, so we learned something about Miyagi, who was somewhat overlooked in the manga.
It seems like mangaka can take Slam Dunk even further with other sequels (if it happens ofc).
I wouldn't be surprised if he considers focusing on other characters one by one in the next movies. (Could be Rukawa because we have no idea about his past)

Okay, let's get to the parts that I think are negative about the movie.
It's very different from the atmosphere we got from Slam Dunk. It looked more like a seinen than a shounen while watching it. (Probably because of the heavy drama and more serious atmosphere). Seiyuu they picked for Sakuragi didn't fit him very well I think, because It's not a voice that matches his clowning + This was the last arc of the manga, so I couldn't understand why the mangaka gave the stage to Miyagi while Sakuragi was playing peak of his character development in the final arc of the manga. It wouldn't be nice if he didn't tell something about Sakuragi's post-rehabilitation after this movie giving the spot light to Miyagi in the most important match of the series.

Despite what I've said, it's a movie worth your time though.

Just watched it for the second time at home.
The first time in the theater, it was all about nostalgia bait and getting used to the animation.
And now, with the comfort of my own time to pause and look at the details, I can really feel the delight for the fans of the manga.
Because all those little gimmicks really pay homage.
Small details that are just some minor meaningless scenes to those who don't read, but have meaning to those who read the manga.

Things like when Sannoh's coach sat down, or Sakuragi's hand after high-fiving Gori

Makes me like this movie even more

In this movie, it really showcased how Ryouta grew up to become a great basketball player, he really went through a lot of struggles. The ending part really made me nervous for the team. Good thing that it ended well. But,this movie is a 10/10 for me!>×<
