no I mean they basically make the whole thing about "Well you see Naofumi is a good slave-master who is really nice to his slaves so it's okay"
and like that's just twisted.

it's not exactly a portrayal of slavery tho is it. that specific scene was more like a way to get closer. saying that that specific scene was set there as a portrayal of slavery was not the intended effect the showmakers wanted to convey in my opinion.

The way that slavery is portrayed in this series is just… egregious, to say the least.

It’s a good thing that Naofumi is actually uncomfortable with Raphtalia’s weird attachment with her slave crest. If you want to enjoy the better parts of the series, it’s just something you’re supposed to accept and ignore.

yeah no.
I guess the term slavery is changed in the aura of naofumi to something more like being an underling. Or it's just something between being a slave and having a master but your freedom not being fully taken.

the reasoning is because it's an exploit in the levelling system IIRC. by becoming slaves, she would level up way faster, and gain certain perks from the MC. that's why the filo and raphtalia grew so fast and are so strong

they also address the dark side how most treat slave like garbage specially the ones that capture them, its about how some1 is reduced to resort to buying a slave just cause no1 would accept him and he can't do it alone + that he can't trust any1, its not trying to sugragoat slavery
