I honestly couldn’t take 90% of the anime seriously by the end (was that alien visit necessary?).
Not that it’s relevant, but why so many bad haircuts? Yoh’s parents are dead? How old are they by the end? Anna and Yoh didn’t waste any time popping that kid out…
I guess Fausto chose to stay dead to be with Eliza, tbat makes me sad because he was a great addition the the funbari staff and he knows the song by heart LOL.
I’m glad Chocolove did some time in prison, he did commit a serious crime.

I felt like the spirits played a bigger role in the original. Maybe that was just filler, but Amidamaru and Bason didnt feel as important in this version. And they were a big reason I liked the original. Ending felt very rushed. Went full saint seiya at the end, but then practically blitzed all of the patch members. A bit disappointed we didnt get the reasoning behind the song massive power up & why Goldiva/Patch has to follow the Soul King when theyre clearly evil either. Hao mom shenanigans were a bit weird, since Anna is basically her reincarnation I guess Yoh is married to his mom??? but finally got the conclusion to this.

Phantom Left slap > Shaman King Hao
Overall I enjoyed some parts of this remake but majority was kinda meh with how rushed the pacing was and too many random things occurring.

Just finished all of SK. I was initially drawn in by what seemed like good character development, production value and animation. Then the animation became still and the writing was just the same thing on loop. There were never any stakes for the characters. The endings time jump sucked. Everyone staged an intervention AFTER he got absolute power, hoping he'd come around.. all because they didn't want to kill him even though everyone kept getting brought back to life? Ugh. I felt lame for watching all of 7 deadly sins but this ended up worse.

Literally worst anime I've ever watched. My childhood memories from old Shaman King were entirely ruined and crushed into pieces with this new version. Still can't believe how bad it is. After 51st episode my hopes slighlty raised up and I kinda expected to have an overall better opinion about it, but nope, last episode was complete disaster.

The beginning was a nostalgia trip but the latter half of the series seemed rushed like crazy.
I guess it doesn't help that when I originally read the manga way back when I stopped when it went on hiatus (last thing I recall reading was that Hao became Shaman King) but apparently the writer re-did the end (something I didn't know until I started watching this?)

Also...I have absolutely no idea who the heck was Ohachiyo...Kinda seems like they went "ahh he's not important...OH WAIT. He is! Quick! Stick him in at the end real quick!"

This last episode in particular seems more like a teaser for the sequel series but even with all holes they didn't ties up nicely
(like LOL when the heck did Ren and Jeanne get the hots for each other?! Jeanne x Lyserg seems more believable imo...)

I'm not really interested in watching more of this at all......thank gawd I finally got this off my "On-Hold" pile though...

last side comment: I'll never get over how screwy the 'kids' were drawn....only Opacho worked but she wore a cloak all the time....that's kinda cheating...

This was one of the worst endings I've seen in a long while in a show. Boring. Literally nothing mattered in the end, yay, everyone is happy and friendly.

Albeit bit rushed, still cannot say i didn't liked the ending. good conclusion, and very funny time skip designs.

from about little after the main tournament of the shaman fight started, the writer went off with breaking down the formula, and i believe that the story downhill started from there. together with how the power system getting stupid with every episode, where every power-up is getting wasted on non-formal battle.
before that, the series was pure 7 for me, and matamune arc raising it to 8. but the latest arcs just was enough to let me think for dropping it even in the latest episodes. so i just went through and marathoned it. i'm little disappointed with how the story took a serious fall. but all in all i can say the story was better than the 2001 version.
if not the production.
the animation and art were disaster most of the time.
and the pace, oh, the pace. it's this series Achilles hill, i don't want to even talk about how the pace just destroyed the whole story telling.
no matter how much the original material was rushed (as being pointed in some threads about the last arc), this is not how story telling supposed to be.

apart from very specific episodes, this remake is a disaster. and the only good thing about it is the story, that by itself isn't the greatest.
and so i'm gonna score this series 6, only for the poor production and pace. though the 2001 version is 7 for me, because at least there the studio knew how to make an anime. and not because of the story and the lousy battles in the end.

still, i'm not regret watching all of this, only to see the ending. it was truly corny, but delivered well.

Shaman King is I think first manga I read from the beginning till the end.

Sure, until tournament it felt kind of rushed to me. The arc of tournament itself though it had its flaws but I loved it. I teared up at the end, ending is so different than most shounen anime and overall I truly loved this adaption.

I like the story way more than the first Shaman King, I whished we got some backstory in anime too, about the original Hao, and Ohachiyo, I presume people who didn't read every SK spinoff were confused xd I also wished we got a better glimpse of grown up Tamao, talk about someone doing 180 xd

Loved this loved this

The very manifestation of the "death is cheap" trope.
Well, that explains Hao's creepy obsession with Anna.
What's with the jump forwards to the epilogue only to flash back?
Horohoro, Ryu and to a certain extent, Tao Ren, are the only voices that fit the adult characters. Adult Joco and Yoh have the least fitting voices.

Novels I have read/am reading pending approval: since November 10 2022

Decent finale! I'd doubts about the conclusion when the fight just started around the 50.5 episode-mark but I'm glad they made it land in the end in acceptable fashion.

Heck of a sequence of events starting from the transformation and power reveal in the previous episode from Hao followed by the introduction of the five warriors with their newly attained great spirits powers. Over Soul Great Spirit commanding the Sun and the Black Hole was way too Op, jeez. I was wondering how the show suddenly took off like this xD, but hey, who doesn't love a little absurdity? Manta joining the fray with all the relatives and the little gravity showdown, fantastic! The fight's were starting to get really stale in the series, for one.

Ohachiyo being the Z and Hao's key to salvation being his mother was kind of interesting and somewhat fitting if you focus on the themes but left a bit to be desired. 10 extra minutes for the finishing touches, though. Ren marrying Jeane came out of nowhere though, did we ever get any hints suggesting that? Was it the bringing him back from death part? Oh, and yeah, the voices, lol. Definitely needed an update for most, lol. Joco looks almost unrecognisable, honestly. Nice to see that little reunion of Matamune and Hao's! Not much to say about Yoh and Anna's son as of yet but I'm sure the next installment will have that covered.

Overall, the show felt messy because of the overly rushed content, despite having some good moments throughout the course of the series. I've been seeing comments saying that the first cour was especially rushed, but honestly, I didn't feel that way too much until the last cour, when it essentially became a fight or two per episode type including training, foreshadowing and whatnot. On another note, we had a pretty entertaining cast on board here, I'll definitely miss the bunch. I wish there was more time reserved for their respective highlights, especially for those receiving them towards the end of the run. Out of all the departments, the soundtrack was probably the most consistent and added a lot to the various scenes, whether it be comedy, action or emotionally focused. Visual-wise, it was decent, it did its job just about fine but the fights were definitely lacking some more finesse and creativity.

I'd my fair share of fun with the series, 6/10. On to the Next Generations now, lol. I kid, I kid. I hope...

I still find it very weird story that other people can easily mess with the mind inside the great spirit. That aside, also weird how the voices don't even match the grown up kids. Like you hear adult with a children voice, like wtf??

Hao defeated by his mom appearance... Dont tell me... Anna is actually Hao mother reincarnation.... Sound a little incest since Hao current twin married Anna. Haha.

Everyone is dead... But got revive by Hao again... And no Faust spotted.. He's dead for good huh?..
It's horrible to see Chocolove and Lyserg voice still the same... They look so manly now since they are an adult... But that voice.... Ren and Yoh voice is still acceptable though... Wonder how Ren and Jeanne suddenly in love....

Glad Horo2 and Lyserg live since they both are my favourite... Overall... I still think the old version is more fun.... The Shaman King 2022 comedy are horible, while the old Shaman King comedy are amazing...
