Now I'm starting to understand how the events in the anime is starting to flow with the game.
Based on this episode, Akagi is actually dead along with Kaga. But after the credits seemed to indicate that she may be brought back somehow. From the game's point of view.
Akagi may be brought back to life as a Siren just like how Enty got possessed in the Mirror Sea by a Siren. Then the event "Visitors Dyed in Red" happens.
TheEnclave said: Pretty solid Episode, no idea what Happened to Enterprise but okay.... At lesat Akagi is dead? But Not really? GOod Fighting scenes and everyone showed up which is definitely a yee fo me.
Anyway, Debut for Masachusetts, wow Im disappointed. Thought that she will look on some lines similar to Enterprise but man she looks like one who literally came out of a Night Club wtf?
I can't imagine how Iowa Class/Bismarck TIrptiz will look like........
Bismarck and Tirpitz actually look really nice. But you won't see any Iowa-class ships as they're not present in Azur Lane.
Bismarck
Tirpitz
Damn For Sure They Look Nice, Let's see how they will be adapted into anime? Sad no Iowa/Montana Class... Also Sad for the lack of WWII era carrier like Essex / Midway
Plot consistency to art ratio is at it again, I see. Just when I thought the art couldn't get any worse, they roto-scope ship images.
Jesus fucking Christ.
My eyes bleed. Art quality this bad is suffering.
For fuck's sake, Bibury, they're not even aligned in the same direction as they're sailing. At least try to make it look like you're making an effort.
off-model off-model la la la
Someone kill me now......
Oh, look, it's the mirror sea...
Finally, appropriate consequences for lack of attention and planning on the part of Enterprise.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Jesus fucking Christ. I just can't anymore. Enterprise becomes *the* Sea-Jesus as she dies, goes to shipgirl heaven, resurrects in three minutes and effortlessly wipes out most of the IJN fleet.
Ah, so that's the rub; a ship hull is the manifestation of a ship's will, as determined by the "soul" of the ship, and
Azur Lane takes another page from Kantai Collection: all ship girls, enterprise included, are apparently recycled Sirens
.
Image review and context above. This is a fucking nightmare. Just when I thought Bibury couldn't do worse, they do this. They went fucking plaid on the art-quality to story inverse ratio, because I have no words to sufficiently describe just how bad this episode is.
There is no comparison between this and Kancolle the anime. None. Kancolle is not just better, it's light-years ahead of whatever trash Bibury thought would be acceptable to Azur Lane fans.
Kancolle at least tried; this episode has rotoscoped ship images that look like they were cut and pasted from a naval encyclopedia. Most of them aren't even sailing in the right direction. There are multiple models that are either off model, randomly chibi, or completely missing some features.
The battles are so poorly choreographed that they're barely better than static images.
The worst part, however, is Enterprise, who in the span of a single episode goes from actually getting something resembling a plot to literally becoming Sea Jesus, effortlessly wiping the floor with the IJN fleet as she gets resurrected in a boom-tube of light by the power of the Sirens.
That stinger though, for Akagi, was a very nice touch. Amagi wasn't completed, so it'd be natural that she'd have no soul. Well, now it's time for Akagi to reap the consequences of her faustian bargain with Observer and the Sirens.
You aren't even trying to enjoy the anime at all. You did your best to nitpick as much as you can to an episode which is more stable in terms of quality compared to last two episodes and also gives more story progression/decent battle scenes.
Bilbury studio has to make do with what they have as source materials from a mobile game where the story is not even the main focus. One can't predict what is going on behind the scenes during the anime production. I can see most people even those that might be a bit confused, enjoying this episode overall. But you are a special one my friend. I'm not sure what is your expectations of AL anime but you need to rethink your expectations and lower your bias. Or just drop AL anime all together.
It's so sad to see you still trying so hard to accuse AL of taking pages from KC. Probably with facts and conclusions that you pull out of your ass.

I think this guy is literally the perfect example of being a Kancolle fan trying to crap on Azur Lane.
I don't mind people hating it but this guy is literally trying to nitpick every episode just to think of an excuse to hate it.
TheEnclave said: Damn For Sure They Look Nice, Let's see how they will be adapted into anime? Sad no Iowa/Montana Class... Also Sad for the lack of WWII era carrier like Essex / Midway
Given the focus of the story right now I'm not even sure if the Ironblood ships will ever show up again. I think there's a chance Bismarck might appear in later episodes since she's present in the opening and is also the most iconic german ship, but that's it.
Looks like I'm late to the party. The episode got enough share of its hate and defense lol
I have mixed feelings about this episode. First, the animation got so much better than the previous one but I can't help but feel they skipped an entire season in-between. Suddenly, the episode opened with a so-called decisive battle between two factions. With zero Ironblood for some reason... How did it come to that? Did Akagi send Azur Lane a challenge letter saying IJN will solo them?
All in all, I didn't hate it as much as episode 5 but some nitpicking is necessary as always.
I'm glad they at least tried to showcase some other ships fighting (Hood, Eldridge and such) FOR 2 SEC but in the end, it became "Enterprise vs. the whole Axis fleet" like no one expected it. I... I'm not even mad anymore...
Srsly tho, this anime shouldn't try to be action (or war) anymore. It's obvious they can't do it. If they focused on scenes like 3 starters' first meeting in episode 1, or Akagi & Kaga with smol destroyers in episode 6, this has so much potential to become a quality moe show.
Gosh, Zui. You took the words right out of my mouth.
Dafuq is this? Gate of AA Guns? King of Heroes would be proud. Unlimited Torpedo Works when?
Even the subbers can't keep their shit anymore. That's HYUUGA ffs! Uzuki is HERE and she's not even a battleship but a loli destroyer. How could they've mistaken that? Even more so when all game-players know that Ise & Hyuuga come as a pair.
About the story, I'm not sure but looks like E tapped in Alter-E's power from another timeline thanks to that black cube and Sirens are behind the cause. And Akagi & Kaga are fucking dead. At least once. (You can't convince me otherwise. Those red spider-lily flowers represent hell.) Because one-shotted by E. Damn, I feel so bad for loyal Akagi/Kaga fans.
Basically,
She's a meme at this point. Memeprise, anyone?
Last of all, I swear I'm familiar to the battlefield in this episode that I've played it in some event of the game but can't recall which event. Can game-players who know it clarify for me? Also how could that event have some relation to this episode? I skipped all texts when I played it so I'm as clueless as an anime-only.
What a horrible episode, instead of making sense they just had to bring in references from other successful shows and make even more zero sense. Enty becoming god like mode was extremely stupid, and why didnt kaga go to her fox mode then?

I'm not even pulling anything. The contours and plot similarities are just that obvious. I don't even have to nitpick because the lack of effort is obvious, and the mistakes are obvious. I'm actually even more shocked that this is the result after they delayed this episode by a full week.
There's no quality control, no coherent plot, and threads that could be used are just wasted in favor of the holy church and trinity of Enterprise: Sea-Jesus, the daughter, and the holy ghost.
I'll concede that the Amagi stinger post credits was a nice touch, but I expect that to be the standard, not a brief moment of brilliance.

I don't have to think of an excuse. I'm familiar with both games, and enjoy both of them. Enterprise is my level 80 oathed ship, and most of my ships are level 70+. Laffey's level 99, and I have at least one costume for Cleveland, who is by far my favorite shipgirl in the entire game. Check my profile if you want: I'm on the Avrora server under the handle of "argonblue".
The honest reality is that the anime really is this bad, and they simply could have done so much better given the material at hand. Azur Lane's game mechanics are shallow, but there's a literal fountain of material to pull from in terms of event plots, to say nothing of the mirror sea itself. Sadly, plot coherence is almost nonexistent, Akagi's faustian bargain with Observer notwithstanding, and what could have been a better plot has been traded in favor of memeterprise saving the day, all day, every day; there's no heroic journey for enterprise, she just is. So by making her the main character and making her OP, Bibury has created a protagonist who cannot be related to, who has no character growth, and who faces no challenges, because when she dies she just comes back, only stronger.
What enrages me the most, though, is that it never seems like they're trying. The same mistakes keep on getting repeated over and over again: the axis ships have been reduced to monster of the week status at best, and the constant art errors are immersion-breaking.
To be fair, it's not as bad as it could be. It's still better than my sister, my writer, and we get occasional glimpses of the sort of world-building that Azur Lane deserves--most prominently this episode with the mirror sea and Enterprise's flashback to that hellscape of Siren corpses. But these moments are far too rare.

Nice try AL hater bot. You are better off using your main account if you have one.
Instead of invalidating his points through evidence, you simply call him a "hater-bot." You automatically lose the argument that way.
Next time, try pointing out why the arrangement this episode isn't inconsistent, both in terms of the original source material and what the anime has set out thus far.
Hell, even Zuikaku lampshaded the whole rotten affair when she asked "wait, carriers can do that?"
Easily one of the best episodes yet. Great fights, solid animation, and some nice plot revelations. I love how they tied in this episode to the 'Visitors Dyed in Red' event in the game.
That hook at the end, though. Probably the first time I'm looking forward to see what's going to happen in the next episode.
This episode sure looked good, but that's it. Ok-ish action, even more Enty shit and... carriers everywhere? Seriously, I know carriers changed the naval warfare, but generally when people like WWII warships it's for big guns, armor and shell exchange. Why would they focus so much on the damn planes?
I'm really torn now. I love the game, but anime, other than some fanservice, is barely above the level of AL ads - whoever saw them knows what I mean... They really have talent for bad promotion.

Best ep btw ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Damn I really hoped for animation to improve, but it seems that all hope was in vain. Yet again quite bad artstyle at times (Belfast dodging shells was just really painful to watch). And not much cute things/moments to redeem the ongoing downside for the series so far - boring fight scenes. There is almost nothing happening in the big picture and 90% of the time we only see some 1v1s and sadly most of the characters are completely forgotten. Even though they are shown before the battle, it just seems that it was only done to make the episode into 20 minutes with no meaning at all
I have so many questions.... An Aircraft Carrier riding an Aircraft? Ships of shipgirls transforming.. But oh well, the battle was nice and all, the animation was also nice. It didn't fell short of my expectations. Lots of action.
5/5

Hey guys, I was actually wanting to drop this show bc it's shit, but didn't bc I don't drop shows. But after seeing the last 2 episodes I got somewhat excited, butts this point I forgot almost everything about the plot. Can someone summerize the plot for me plz? It's confusing af
The beginning of the episode felt like a trailer, not gonna lie.. ;P Which is fine, I guess.. Just intense.. And just for some reason it really reminded me trailer type.. I haven't seen any Azur Lane trailers, by the way..
Well, it seems like something is going to happen.. Maybe awakening of dark side of the Enterprise or something?.. Well, will see soon..
Akagi can control weather?.. Or just watched the weather forecast, and decided to be chuuni right before the battle.. ;P
Damn, what is this episode.. Things got serious.. Are some ship girls dead?.. Damn..
