Wow, that last scene was so depressing and amazingly animated.
Yakumo wanted to die, but when he was about to die, he finally was afraid and changed his mind.
Thanks god, Yotarou saved him.
Yakumo, you can't die with this secret!

It was another perfect episode.

"If you want to die with rakugo, you have to do rakugo!" Well, you can't argue with that logic.

Holy shit, the ending was intense. Kikuhiko did a great performance of "Shinigami" on his own (his weak voice only seemed to add to the intense factor of the story for me), followed by actually seeing a shinigami and then lighting the theater on fire.
"No, son, you may not have your body pillow at the dinner table!"

I'm so glad Yakumo didn't die. I wouldn't be able to handle the last 3 episodes with the characters having to deal with his death :(

I don't think I will be rewatching this series as a whole but there are few rakugos worth going back to and now this is an episode, that Shinigami was pretty much best Rakugo of the entire series!!! Yes I will see it again, I will see it again... also something tells me that far in the future when I am old and soon to be dead this episode is something I will return to. At the very least I hope that when that time comes I will stil remember to do so!

Yakumo's performance in the prison was so chilling it's terrifying. We haven't gotten the chance to see stories completely devoid of a punchline. The entire story I was waiting for him to make some joke but it just got more and more depressing. Brilliant. It's pretty sad that Yakumo won't approve of Yotaro's Inokori. He put so much effort into it too. Maybe Yakumo's old-fashioned sense of rakguo isn't necessary anymore. It's possible his Inokori is exceptional, just not to Yakumo's tastes. Yakumo's Shinigami was also more chilling than usual. The Sukeroku thing, in particular, was really creepy. That wasn't something even close to the Sukeroku I know and love. Glad that Yotaro showed up just in time to save Yakumo. That was the last theater in the city, though, right? Did Yakumo truly just kill rakugo?

The ending was just... CRAZY. And so, he survived I suppose... I also guess one of those two told Yotaro about him doing that.

This season continues to both impress and disappoint me at the same time. I loved the performance by Yakumo towards the prisoners as his rakugo felt incredibly fitting for the situation the prisoners are in and sort of hit home with them when they needed it. Pretty great performance and the voice acting, in particular, to fit his weak voice due to his age while showing a great amount of emotions via the performance was fantastic.

But it just for me feels like a different way of going through the same thing, like you're copying your own work for a different project but changing up the words to make it seem different. Yakumo's passed out on stage, nearly tried to jump off a bridge and now tried to burn himself while performing Shinigami to an empty crowd in the theatre at night due to his visions of seeing Sukeroku as a shinigami himself. The scene was masterfully directed, but the human impact for me feels lost when it keeps on happening to him in an overdramatized fashion and he keeps on surviving from it with the help of Yotarou or Konatsu to save him. Feels like a cycle of stagnation for me. It doesn't even tackle much about the future of rakugo for me which feels disappointing to say the least since in his mind, he always wanted to take rakugo with him to the afterlife. The rakugo performances are great but compared to the first season, just feel like an afterthought in its meaning and soul behind the messages, especially for the performer themselves.

The prison performance was magnificent and haunting.
It brought me to tears.

I thought the second season wouldnt be able to reach the same heights but this episode may have proved me wrong.

What an epic episode. The shinigamis that hover over the prison that then appear even more so in the old theatre. I love Yakumo's voice actor and how he so fluidly conveys the fear of dying.
