Nice to see this back, still Kudelia looks much older compared to season 1, must be the clothes and hair.

I feel like how she looks now better reflects who she's supposed to be. There's an iPad in the first season that gives her age as 16 but she has two college degrees and the Noachis July Assembly was seven years before the show started. That never made much sense, but her entire character arc in the first season was baffling given how she was established.

In saying that she seems more adroit as a political operator now. I won't be able to avoid comparing her to Princess Ortfine from Shuumatsu no Izetta, but I'm glad to see she gets to do the thing she's supposed to be good at.

There was a lot to like about the episode. The way the world had changed, the way characters had grown, Atra getting to wear the iron flower, Kudelia's office. In all it was a good first episode, but the first season had a good first episode and didn't turn out so crash hot. I'm cautious about the next 25 episodes, but credit where credit's due, this episode was very well done.

Anyone getting bad vibes from naze here in the opening

They are separated from the rest of the cast looking very distraught while the rest of the cast is looking hopefully towards mika and orga. Remember teiwaz's leader is in line with that old fuck who was using kudelia and both seemed to view tekkadan as a tool. I'm honestly expecting that because of this naze will unwillingly be forced to wind up on an opposing side to tekkadan which fun fact was originally supposed to happen in the original script for season 1, so that might mean they just outright scrapped it altogether or they are going to work it into this 2nd half.

Naze being intended as a villain makes a lot of sense - his relationship with the Hammerhead crew really fits into this shows overall themes of social stratification and exploitation of the destitute. Late in the first season Lafter describes the Hammerhead as being like a refuge for disadvantaged women, and that becoming part of the crew (and being able to become a boss mobile suit pilot or skilled engineer) comes with the requirement that you be sexually available to Naze has a pretty sinister edge to it.

But the show kind of glossed over it by having all the women in the Turbines be willing partners who are all totally in love with him and he all loves them all back and it's okay because he has a lot of love to give blah blah blah. It was just weirdly uncritical, but we can't be too critical of the good guys, I guess ...

We're finally back! And holy shit they seem to be raising flags faster than ever! A battle from the offset to start this show off?

Agree that the short recap was sweet. There seems to have been at least a year or two of time skip, considering just how big the Cookie and Cracker have grown. God I felt so bad for them when their classmates were talking about Biscuit. They're still traumatized about losing their close ones too (as seen when they refused to let Mika out of the car). Nearly broke my heart then and there.

My how far Gjallarhorn has fallen. They've lost their foothold on the sector and now the corrupt factions are now resorting to piracy to survive(?). Same cannot be said about Tekkadan, who have now been established as a partner firm under Teiwaz and are responsible for security duty apparently (it's a smaller operation, but still...).

The time skip seems to have done wonders to all of our old characters, and not just animation-wise. Sure they all look older (bar Mika and Atra of course), but the change in their mentalities from kids that take risks when fighting under the orders of Orga, to veterans who teach the new kids when to pull back and when to rush into battle, is great to watch. You can really see the growth in all their characters, specially when grilling out the new recruits. It was nice seeing the likes of Ride, Dante and Yamagi getting more prominent roles this time round.

Same goes with Lafter and Azee. You can definitely see their growth, but at the same time it was somehow beautiful to see them getting pissed off at Tekkadan's new recruits because they missed their Naze. Naze Turbine is harem goals through and through. XD

As for the new stuff, it's quite obvious we have some things being set into motion. The new kid, Hash, seems like an uncooperative fellow already. I can already see him either turn traitor, or embrace the ideals of Mika and Orga later on and become the pilot for some new Gundam under Tekkadan. Characters like him seem to go either one or the other extreme.

McGillis is same as ever. He may have good intentions with freeing Gjallarhorn from corruption, but in the end he's still seems as power-hungry as the next dude. Still don't know what his deal is though, so I'm willing to patiently wait to find out. The new mask dude is either him or someone working for him. I get the feeling that his side will also have to be able to acquire a Gundum frame later on if they are to compete on an even footing with Mika and Tekkadan.

Loved the ED here. This season is turning out to be a feast for both the eyes and ears.

As always, looking forward to more Kudelia/Atra x Mika moments, and more Orga x Merribit moments. But especially eagerly anticipating those OrgaxMika bromance moments.

Glad this is back for sure. Next episode really can't come fast enough.

No wonder Japan is an aging country. Actually Sunrise should just cancel this show. I call this Lame-Blooded Orphans because someone had to die.

Wow.

Sunrise really knocked it out of the park with this one. Short, useful recap. World changed in an interesting and believable way. Kudelia seems to be in a really interesting spot as a mature princess who still is dealing with sharks.

Hmn. I guess the one twist this season might be Teiwaz acting like a Mafia but honestly I can live with them just being happy santa clauses.

Stoked.

But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

So happy to see this back! I've missed IBO these last two seasons, but it's back better than ever. Kudelia doesn't really seem that much older, it's really just her clothes. Otherwise, her face and build is pretty much the same. Honestly, clothes can really change how a person is perceived, and here she looks like the current position she's holding. Versus when she was mostly observing things in season one.

Politics wise, I'm certainly still waiting for the relationship between Teiwaz and Tekkadan to change, and the ED screenshot Jizzy linked definitely makes me think that it's going to happen. And who is that new masked guy? Or is he not new, but has a new mask? That mask is pretty intense though. Also, that Hash dude. I can see him being annoying, but I hope not, and that instead we will see him grow in the series. Someone talked about SEED Destiny, please no. Let Hash not be Shinn 2.0. Hopefully Hash will look up to Mika after seeing Mika's amazing skills (that fucking entrance at the end though).

Gjallarhorn talking about needing power to keep peace, idk man. That person who ate the butterfly scares me.

SPYAIR's OP song is great, but nothing will ever beat MAN WITH A MISSION's "Raise Your Flag," I still listen to that often. Looking forward to the OP sequence and how the rest of the season will unfold~

I dont mean naze being a bad guy as is, im meaning hes an unwilling antagonist because the boss of the teiwaz is corrupt and is working with the same contact that tried to have kudelia killed in the colony last season. Naze's harem isnt that of normal social standards but they have gone out of there way to show he genuinly cares for his girls and the crew of tekkadan.

On the romantic front, it seems that nothing has changed between Mika and Atra, they're still nothing more than friends, and she's still content to only watch over him without trying to make any move. The next episode will probably reveal where things stand with Kudelia, but I doubt anything changed there much either - still, something had to change a little after the first set of both Kudelia and Tekkadan's goals had been achieved, so I'm looking forward to Mika&Kudelia's interaction.

It really hasnt been that much time since the first series for any real development relationship wise with mika and anyone, im pretty sure the romantic subplot exsists more for atra and kudelia's character motivation than anything of actual development coming out of it since mika's kind of asexual for the most part. Maybe if they do follow through on the whole deal with his buried subconscious emotions you'll see some development from his side of things and believe me I hope to god that plotpoint is a main focus of the show going in cause im a tad worried they haven progressed that as much as they should have by now.

I'm fairly certain mika doesnt have any actual romantic intentions, he definitely does give an actual shit about their saftey and cares for them as people close to him but not in that way. I think the kiss scene in the first season is the proof that he doesnt really understand the concept properly and was more or less just imitating naze.

# will obviously see him as a monster, after his drastic experience with mobile suit he slowly will grow way opposed to them and in the end he will end this insane children crusade by defeating Mikazuki and Barbatos Lupus. Seen those three hands in the ending sequence when Mikazuki rises his arm? The second one is a prosthesis he is going to receive after being defeated, since the last time his hand almost stopped working he will lose it after going completely berserk. I feel this is correct.
As for Naze he will be put to a moral choice between the brotherhood with the Orga's family and Teiwaz, which is as corrupt as Gjallarhorn. Guess what.

were only halfway through and gundam rarely kills anyone of worth until its final 10 episodes, IBO probably has more named character deaths than most gundam entries at their midpoint especially since gundam is vastly overrated in how high its body counts are, barely anyone dies in 079, ZZ, f91, X, wing, turn-A, or G-reco, yes there are deaths but nothing really that integral to the core of the show with many of them being random mooks introduced no less than 10 episodes prior like carta was.

For an intro of the 2nd season this felt... a bit weak
The battle at the end was good tho
"I lost all of what you could call feelings of love. They weren't sealed, so they can't be released. They weren't broken, so they can't be fixed. That which is lost, cannot be recovered." Shiba Tatsuya
"There are no regrets. If one can be proud of one's life, one should not wish for another chance." Saber
"No matter what happens, no matter how crazy things get, I'll always try to restore balance." Korra
"It's madness to let others take what's yours and accept it blindly." Baatar Jr
"Instinct is a lie, told by a fearful body, hoping to be wrong." Zaheer

Yeah, I agree that he seems mostly asexual, but I'm taking it as a consequence of his general lack of visible emotions. Like you, I think that he's so used to repressing everything that the pokerface became part of him, but I want to believe there are emotions and probably half-unconscious desires beneath the surface (including some interest in the opposite sex, and this kind of mostly uncoscious curiosity was part of the reason why he applied Naze's speech about women looking more beautiful when men are stressed out to himself and tried imitating him), and the question is if he can ever connect with them and match feelings/desires to words, or, alternatively, if those supressed emotions will be freed through a meltdown and an explosion some time down the road. I, too, pray to God that Mika's bottled up emotions won't just get swept under the rug for convenience purposes, I've been looking forward to the show addressing them for quite some time.

Anyway, for now I guess I'll be content with an affirmation that to Mika Kudelia has firmly become not just a client but a person he considers close.

Sorry if I'm going on about the romance too much when we have all those exciting political twists and intrigues set up, it's just that this show is one of the few where I feel romance doesn't take away from the plot, on the contrary, even makes it richer.

Well the bottled up emotions things is pretty much confirmed since episode 13 when he couldnt stop shaking after the fight which even he couldnt understand why. I think the thing with mika's bottle up emotions is that hes going to need to lose something personally important to him specifically, like i really dont want it to happen but i think atra or orga dying are the only things really coming to mind that would really cause mika's emotions to break open.

I mean theres alot left up in the air where his character will go, personally i think they wont kill atra or orga for that purpouse but rather i see one other way they might bring it out, mika's only time where he really lost his composure after a fight was in episode 13 when the insinuation that he enjoys killing kept ringing in his head causing him to uncontrollably shake. Its a stretch but i senses a big comparison between how mcgillis' personality is with mikas and i think the eventual conflict between the 2 coming up might wind up causing mika to take alot of things to heart if mcgillis makes comparisons between how both of them act. That or the stress of things in general could harm him since we did see him visibly distraught when cooki and cracker begged him not to fight.

Nice start, I really liked the episode.

As for the new Char Clone, I think is Ein (again). It can't be Gaelio because he was betrayed (and presumibly killed) by McGillis, it doesn't make any sense that he fights alongside Gjallahorn.

Also, the Gundam's name is Gundam Vidar, son of Odin and the one that kills Fenrir the Wolf (Lupus) in revenge for devouring his father.

you'd rather they go with plot points they dropped back in S1 rather than come up with new ones?

I mean presumably they dropped them for a reason but I mean

the way they executed S1, they could have used either that or the eugene betrayal plot point pretty much whenever they wanted, they would have had the appropriate setup for it already in hand.

I like the upgrade in visuals and Really liking the mood that was set here. I pray we don't end up with a Shin 2.0 situation though, i wonder if they might have the two duel and fight one another at some point over values and such.

Also, the Gundam's name is Gundam Vidar, son of Odin and the one that kills Fenrir the Wolf (Lupus) in revenge for devouring his father.

I get the feeling that this will come true and most likely the scene we see with Mika being unable to properly move will most likely happen after a battle with Vidar in which Lupis suffers crippling damage. Most likely this will lead to an upgrade for him and he'll come back even stronger, possibly with a replacement arm but also, we might see Mika end up as a symbol of of the misery that follows when you chase power and avoid the risks it might have for your own body. I do not believe that this series will disapoint however, and so, I think that almost everyone is once again at risk of Dying.

The only ones I can forsee having plot armor being Kudelia and Mika, potenially Orga.

Kudelia for the simple fact that if she were to die, then basically all the build of mars becoming independant would just go out the window, there would be no one to replace her politically for the show, whilst the same cannot be said for the miliitary part of the show and, it's unlikely that Mika will die unless it's at the very end.

Mika simply is our male main character that is piloting the main suit thus, his chances of survival until the last fight are very very high.

Orga is very important to Tekkadan itself regarding it's military operations and the runnings of it as it's main military commander, yet he's not as secure as mika as he might end up sacrificed for Mika to grow exponentially as a character, though keep in mind that most of this is just speculation.

That was a nice welcoming first episode. Love the ED (probably will be the OP? )

I like Chocolate-san appearance as well. Orga's a bit cheesy, but that's fine too since he always have been since Season 1.
Anyway, I like the one-liner dialogues that most characters have but still portray their growth.

Unknown timeskip (ok 1/2 yr), 3 minute hyperspeed infodump plus some more. So basically Tekkadon the heroes exposed Gallahorn corruption, but everything else from piracy to terrorism to forced child soldiers got worse.
Forgot what Terra Liber weird glasses dude did, guess part of former resistance...
Biscuit twins, Aina & most younglings grew, but Atra...didn't? Chocoman still super edgy u got no friends lol.
Random butterfly eater.
Mika's epic entrance with the awesome OP, but I've the feeling anim budget still unsmooth like s1. Mech art is tasty tho.

they haven't changed, save for Kudelia, she looks way older than in the first season.

I think they did this because there going to try and pair mika up with the new "princess" type character thus freeing up kudelia to be with someone else (orga maybe?).

With this alone this season is good. Lets see what else we have to discover.
I was not hooked for a sequel like this since Gate season 2 :D

The discussion above made me think that Orga and Mika are truly brothers.
Orga -> Merribit
Mika -> Kudelia

Their women seems older than them.

That would be so out of no where even by a franchise that shares its standards with zeta gundam's bizarre romances. They will either make merbit orga's love interest or just not give him one altogether. Its doubtful mika will even make much progress on the romantic front given the guy's lack of understanding of the subject in addition to his increasingly poorer chances of surviving this series.

Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me
