Not really a impressive begining, i guess i had my expectations too high on this, hopefully improves later.

The animation is quite good though.

I loved this start. Better than I expected, and I really don't like militar animes.

As for this shit of "bla bla bla got sick of yuri", man, rly? If the characters were a boy and a girl a lot of people wouldn't see it as friendship, only romance. But no, if it the characters are girls " HURRR IT'S TOO GAY", oh come on.

Very impressive start, from both animation, art and music department, everything has been on point with harmony and tone with it, especially the setting. I really like the setting in itself and so as the main character. She seems pretty interesting and well, I hope it does deliver through.

Btw Based BunBun's artstyle, on fucking point.

I would love to watch this in a German dub and I would also love if the two main girls became a couple!

But of course neither is going to happen. Anyway, I think this show has a solid start. Here's hoping it doesn't disappoint at the end.

I think the problem is more that it's only undertones. The creators are just baiting but never follow up on it. That's just tiring. Either bring a real gay/lesbian relationship or leave it out.

Yeah, I totally agree with you in this aspect. However, I guess we're all would be lying if we said that we never saw people who don't love each other in a romantic way kissing or even going further. I would LOVE if they became a couple, I hope they will, but even if it doesn't happen, people are so hypocrital. As I said, if they were a boy and a girl nobody would be complaning.

This was a very good episode for me. The setting, music, and animation looks very good. Fine looks like she is going to be a strong female character. I grinned when Izetta started flying on that gun.

Art, animation, soundtrack were all top notch and I love the WW2 setting. The story in itself has a kind of old school feel, it seems like the kind of thing they might have done 20, 30 years ago.

Will most definitely keep on watching.

I love Japan's weird fixation with the German word sieg and how they keep using it in such dumb ways. Doesn't matter what context, Sieg Zeon, Sieg Kaisaru Reinhardo, Sieg Reich. Victory Realm? Really? Love it. Oh the show? It's alright I guess, apart from the fairly distasteful fan-service.

The way they built the world in this first episode reminded me of an old teacher of mine. He used to be a leading poet in his obscure language until one day someone noticed that all he did was translate Scottish-dialect poetry but with the place names changed to local ones...

Whilst I wasn't necessarily amazed by this first episode, I reckon this could be solid series; nothing amazing, but eh, pretty good

I think I like this so far. This is giving me some Code Geass vibes with how there's a witch locked up in a container, and is discovered by a princess like how Lelouch was a prince. Seems like this show will walk the line between Yuri and historical drama. Not that sold on the story yet

Good animation and strong accent on well developed female bodies of protagonists, extremely cliche characters and weak script.

The bad guy is carrying a supper secret weapon, in fact so secret that he kills few subordinates of his who were unlucky to see it. Why it is then in public transport? Why is it wide open for anybody to discover among bicycles? Why protagonist just opens locks, no picking, no key.

Details are non existent, but just in case you have not noticed protagonist has matured into a beautiful lady. Should I repeat it one more time? Don't believe me? Here are the nudes.

I want to like it, but I'm afraid it has too much cringe for me.

Why does a show riddled with WWII references, to the point of copying the map, shy away from using the actual nation's names and symbolism from 1939? Every time they do it I can't help but eye-roll. Especially the germ(ani)an's greeting "Sieg Reich", being such a dumb wordplay I would punch someone for it (siegreich = victorious), gives me shivers every time I hear it. Just let them say Heil and stick a goddamn cross on that plane ffs - everybody knows what's meant anyways.

The show takes itself seriously, but I just can't do the same when I'm bombarded by cringy references every minute. I hope I'll get used to it so I can enjoy the actual plot (Which I like so far), though I don't think I will.

something so beautiful you can only accept with open arms. i'm going to avoid the fact that both german and english people speak fluent japanese.

also i want to add, why can't a friendship be incredibly deep? i see no queerbait yet, i might change my mind but for now i think they could pass as friends

The same reason why some ww2 games replace the Swastika with the Iron Cross or censor Hitler. It could be because it might be seen by some as bad taste or there are laws in some countries that forbid the use of nazi symbolism.

Another reason could be for the story. The show obviously takes place in a different world where Elystadt exists as a country with magic and what not, by replacing Nazi Germany with a fictional counterpart they remove the need to reference the nazis ridiculous ideological tenets which would have added nothing to the story.
Nazi Germany and Germania are different countries which although share similarities are not the same.

This show has potential. Impressive start. I'm liking it so far.

Well then, this is all going to be interesting to watch especially since our lead seems like she is going to be the strong type that is sorely needed in anime nowadays. I liked just about everything that was given but the yuri undertones is already making me worried. Hopefully it won't be too distracting because this narrative seems like it's gonna pack a lot of potential.

Not bad as a beginning episode. The WWII setting was nice, the princess actually tried to be competent, the main antagonist was cool and the ending with Izetta wrecking the plane looked really beautiful (+ great soundtrack).

This looks good, hope it doesn't ends being a disaster.

Like the first episode, but also had a few alarm bells go off. For one, the only reason for the alternate history seems to be to avoid real life political issues. Secondly, there's the yuri undertones, and finally some things are off for no particular reason. For example: the German officer's pistol was engraved with "who dares wins", which is the motto of the British SAS, and while it is clearly set in the 1940's, it really feels more like 1910-1920's.

Nope, you were not, though I've tried my best to forget everything about Suou and the rest of that turd of a sequel.

The fact that it has been retconned in canon says enough.

Is there a reason that I feel like I'm recognising the art style? I don't recognise any of the studio's other works and the anime is listed as an original, so it's not because of some manga author connection.

Either way, I absolutely love the theme. I'm very fond of WW2 themes. The environments, the level of technology, the fashion and architecture. Aside from the horrors of war and the racial exterminations it is a very cosy time period.

Great storyboarding, nice visuals, great OST.

There is a really interesting mix of realism and fantasy elements at work here. The title, The Last Witch, hints at a time of transition from the age of magic to the age of industrial mass warfare. Princess Finé and Izetta are throwbacks to another era, caught up together at the start of a cold and brutal age.

The military is very detailed and looks realistic, a blend of WWII (Stukka dive bombers) and WWI (trenches, German Kaiser). At first I thought it was set in an AU 1929 where the two wars were merged (Gosick), but this story explicitly takes place in an AU 1939, but with royalty still in charge of Britannia and Germania.

I hope that Izetta doesn't become another clichéd nigh-invincible Magical Girl. She should have limitations in this kind of tale. I also hope they can keep the animation production quality up.

Now some parts of the soundtrack so far are pretty great, but the sound in general kinda lacks any "Oomph." The sound effects for the explosions and gunshots in the episode were kinda dull, like BB guns. That might bother me if it continues, but it looks pretty good from what I've seen. I'm hoping they can carry this well.

Great first episode. It introduced us to the setting quickly and efficiently, created some intrigue behind Germania's motivations and Izetta and Finé is shaping up to be a very likeable character if she doesn't become useless.
The statement below is true.

They never said that Britannia was ruled by royalty. The Princess specifically said that it might convince their people and parliament to want to protect her country if she marries their Prince.

Trenches aren't a thing exclusive to WW1. Trenches were still used throughout WW2 by all sides. Seeing them in this anime is no surprise since it is early in the war and most Generals expected it to play out similar to how WW1 played out. They say that Generals always fight the previous war.

I can say that it's pretty interesting, the animation from the opening 'til the end is somewhat nice, let's see if they can keep that up together with the story until the end this is an original work by the way I really don't expect that much on Izetta x Fine romance, Amanchu killed my hopes and dreams.
