There will be comical moments but their frequence tends to decrease as the story progresses to go for 1 H scene per volume starting from volume 5.

You might have the feeling it's a bit messed up since there will be many arcs going on at the same time (Roshidere's narration is character centered so each character is having their arc at the same time other have it) but volume 8 (probably beginning of season 3 if they make one) build on these arcs to reunite them all towards the end which lead to the plot of volume 9 (which is out from today).

I recommend you to read the LN if you enjoy the next 3 episodes since they will show a bit of the big picture.
