Its a mutilated spawn of SnK and Ao no Exorcist with the production values of Guilty Crown. , stealing themes, plot elements and characters/backstories without adding anything new to the equation. Guy with tunnel vision loses his "family" and is out for revenge, goes to class to learn demon abilities and inadvertently makes friends with the really smart delinquent of the class. Sound familiar. Thats because its point for point the plots of both SnK and AnE. Show even has its own Armin/Yukio in the form of Yuuichi.

Slight spoilers in the next paragraph

The plot moves at a breakneck pace, and I can't get a read on the MC. We know he is out for revenge, but he outright says it instead of showing us his intent through his actions. Why should people like him? What gives him the ability to break free from demons, and his demon contract was anticlimactic. On top of that, unlike SnK, I have no desire to find out why the vampires and demons exist, and simply just chalked it up to plot elements that serve to move the story forward (nothing more, nothing less). At least in SnK (before I dropped it), the backstory of the Titans was interesting enough for me to want to keep watching and find out more. That is very far from the case here.

Might I also add that the BL shit between the MC and Mika is stifling and sickening, and just like in 07 Ghost, has no place in this show. Should have known to quit after the first episode.

That said, the art of this series is amazing. Wrecked Tokyo and the Vampire City are rendered in beautiful watercolor that is just a joy to look at and works perfectly to bring us into the series. Had this art not been wasted on a lackluster show, we would have been looking at a true classic for 2014/2015

Whether or not this show is overrated/underrated is yet to be decided.
