The film is nice, interesting with goods moments, but is repetitive in their plot.... The animation is great, with more details.... The characters, Luffy and company are insuperables although Z is a comun....

I watched better films of Luffy and company....7/10.

Wasn't a huge fan of this one. Hoping the best for the Film Gold but so far the Oda involved films are my least favorite of the One Piece movies. Strong World managed to scrape by with a 7/10 for me for the amazing visual spectacle that was Luffy's finish to Shiki, this movie had no such moment so even though I think I enjoyed it more, it's rating is a little bit lower, at a 6/10. But that's not super relevant to the discussion so let's move on to the actual films.

First off, minor nitpick, Robin should've been able to grab Binz at the beginning. They made a point to establish that speed is irrelevant factor in combat to her (which has remained true all throughout the manga) so the contradiction to that kinda ticked me off. But whatever, the Straw Hats weren't particularly represented accurately power-wise in Movie 6, which is still easily my favorite of the films so again, minor nitpick.

But what really hurt my enjoyment of this film was the final fight, and Z himself. Considering how quickly he turned on the Straw Hats early on with the reveal that they were pirates, and that his entire goal in this film was to commit genocide, it's a little hard to believe that he'd have a change of beliefs simply because Luffy was a good person who was dedicated to a goal. That felt like such a forced turn of events, like it just happened because the movie wanted to end it with him as a more sympathetic villain, as a good guy capable of sacrificing himself to the Marines. The movie emphasizes just how much tragic events had to occur for him to reach that point, the death of his family, almost the entirety of his battalion (sans Ain & Binz), and then the World Government making the pirate responsible for the latter a Shichibukai. So having the resolution to that being simply being having his emotions swayed thanks to losing a fist fight with Luffy just felt like a natural leap in progression. Was just fighting resolutely for his convictions with another all it took. For a movie that's essentially based around Z's character, this ending dampened my enjoyment in a major way. I did like the touch at the end with Z wanting to be the Great Saiyaman I guess. It punctuated the point that Z was trying to be a hero through his actions of mass-genocide, a nice concluding passage but the impact wasn't really effective for me with the aforementioned conclusion.

As a whole, my interest waned when the movie just turned into, awesome action moments for each member of our crew. I get it, everyone needs to have their shining moment but it wasn't particularly engaging action and I also felt this conflicted with the dramatic stakes set up in this film. The stakes here were massive, the lives of everyone in the New World was basically on the line, and each encounter we got to determine this was practically a squash. Not that I'd want to see someone like Robin struggle against fodder mind you, I'm clearly peeved when they don't treat her powers properly, but it's not a very satisfying sequence to watch. Sanji & Zoro's quick bouts fared better though. Still underwhelming with how drastic the situation was but the animation was probably at it's peak during those bouts and I liked the parallels between the scenes. Zoro in the lava section defeating an opponent while covered in blue with a move he called Water Stream and Sanji in an area with water defeating an opponent while covered in red with his Diable Jambe skill-set.

One more final complaint, the drastic stakes themselves. The Endpoints & Dyna Stones felt like filler. Like, really bad plot devices necessary in order to provide an epic scale and atmosphere because it's a movie, you need to have a grander adventure. I actually cringed every-time they said the Dyna Stones rivaled the ancient weapons in power. Maybe you felt those were a natural extension to the One Piece world, and that's fine I'm guessing most have disagreed with everything I've written thus far, but to me it felt like an ultra convenient intrusion to the world established just so the movie can feel more epic. And considering they opted for a non-special movie final fight, I think it might've benefited the film if they scaled down his plans a little bit. Or his method I guess.

That's not to say I didn't like anything in this movie. The age regression thing was fun, even if the fanservice attached to it was unnecessary but it's One Piece so that's just a packaged deal, & I loved all Kuzan scenes here. He was great. I enjoyed the cast dynamics quite a bit too, the scene where everyone stands up for Chopper not having to regret following his convictions and beliefs for example. Not only was it great because it was just a heartwarming thing to see but because it tied into the overall theme of the movie nicely, providing an early example of it so that the power of conviction isn't solely expressed through the final moments. Or Sanji telling Luffy that he, or Zoro,  should take on Z. Something I particular agree with because if you watch that first fight, Zoro easily does the best out of the three. Usopp bragging to Chopper how much money Robin made them only for Nami to swipe the money was great too. And as final praise, the nostalgia was pretty great too. Jonathan from the G-8 arc briefly showed up, also known as the best filler arc in any anime ever fight me, along with several other marines including T-Bone! Also, I got way too excited when they name dropped the sea train (can you tell Water 7 is my favorite arc), I was kinda hoping Kokoro would show up too but I was asking for too much there.

Anyway, those are my rambles on Film Z. Disappointed since I went in hoping to have a second favorite One Piece movie (expecting it to be better than Movie 6 would've been insane [at least for me, I know the opinions on that movie are massively divided]), it definitely sounded right up my alley with a stronger character focus antagonist. But as I've clearly expressed, one that didn't really resonate or work for me. Some strong moments but nothing special. 6/10

I know a lot of you will disagree with me but I think we can all come together and agree that Avril Lavigne singing Nickelback & Joan Jett was weird.

I enjoyed this film a bit more then I did Strong World, that and I found Z more interesting then Shiki. But the real surprise of this movie was an Avril Lavigne cover of a Nickleback song for an ending of a One Piece movie, that's a combination I'm not quite sure how to react to.

Honestly was not expecting this to be as awesome as it was. Definitely my favorite One Piece film, no competition!
That final fight was quite something- I can see why people might not like an atypical slug-fest where the real victor is old-age...but I thought it was a smart move. It would've been much less realistic for Luffy to beat an ex-admiral at his best.

I think what makes this film stand above the rest is FLY AWAY ON MYZephyr, because he was not only a good villain, but a good character. I mean, I was sad to see him go at the end- I shed tears! At least he went out like a boss though.

Overall message was great too- both dreams and justice require sacrifice, and both can be easily tainted.

Aokiji's presence made me happy also- we don't get nearly enough of him in the main story line so having him pop up near naked in the Hot Springs and even singing did wonders for my fangirling heart lol

Honestly surprising that we got more man-service than fan-service too...what with Loli Nami being flat and all the guys running around naked in the Hot Springs ^///^
Oh, we did get adorable 18 year old Robin though and that luscious dance number though. I loved that so much!

Animation was stunning too. Best I've seen in anything Toei have ever brought out. I swear to god if the final fight in the actual anime isn't animated like this I will cry ;-;

Avril Lavigne doing the ED songs was a surprisingly good fit too- a cover of a Nickelback song and then "Bad Reputation"...which is now the Straw Hat anthem in my head XD

It is my first One Piece watching and I really loved it. I also loved the one to one fight between Lufyy and Z. Zoro's fight was cool too.

average movie.. really thought the end fight was underwhelming as fuck. I wasn't really a fan of Z either, they tried hard to make you sympathize with him but that failed.

also lots of cgi which i did not enjoy

Haha, my thoughts exactly. This was no different from Naruto/Bleach movie.

What is this garbage that I just read?

In what way is this a garbage? Those are some strong points

I think Robin and Brook at least should have just stayed younger (I understand though that there's no way it could be a thing, since the movie is non-canon)

I find it a little hard to believe that Zed was trying to take over the world with that simple arm of his, engineered BY the marines. Sure, Zed was already one of the highest ranks in the Marines, but I have to wonder why they didn't just engineer more of those powerful arms for the highest of ranks (without devil fruit powers). It could be 4-5 Vice Admirals with those arms vs 1 ex-Vice Admiral. I mean, really, the movie's tryna state that Zed was successful as he was with his task (only missing the final endpoint) because of that arm of his (alongside his two sidekicks). I don't know. I find it somewhat unbelievable. Aside from that, why can't devil fruit users just attack Zed from a distance? Doesn't sea prism stone just affect the devil fruit user once it touches them? Why couldn't the ice guy freeze Zed from a distance? Or the magma guy (who killed Ace) magma him from a distance? Heck, even Robin could crush this guy. Since the One Piece staff felt the need to overpower her with gigantic legs that could practically take out any enemy... I mean, she coulda just used her gigantic legs to crush Zed. By the time the force of her giant limbs crushed Zed, the sea prism stone wouldn't have even had a chance to take effect yet. Or... what... is that arm of Zed's really indestructible against everything? Swords, bombs/explosions, fire/lava? Is it some kind of indestructible alloy? (To be fair, it was said that sea prism stone is rare and hard to obtain.)

Anywho, I just feel Zed's arm isn't enough to defeat the entire Marine force.

I rolled my eyes during the "fan service" of Nami and Robin reverting back to their initial ages, but I have to admit, the movie landed a solid joke there with the brief "Brook's ass" moment. Especially watching it dubbed. Maybe I'm lame for thinking that was funny but it just caught me off guard. The ironic moan he made with it. It was almost like the movie was taking a jab at fan service moments or something. I don't know. Since it made me crack a smile, I thought I'd write about it here.

I have my issues with this movie but it was a solid addition to the franchise nonetheless, in my opinion. Of course the whole bits regarding the End Points and Dyna Stones are pretty much non-canon, granted.

Z’s character for me was a hit and a miss, I’d say. Hit because we got just about enough screen-time of his past reinforcing his intentions and just the fact that he’s the teacher of so many of the current top elite Marine roster. On the flip side, a Miss because of how ridiculously he changed sides to the Straw Hats out of the blue towards the end of the movie. Somehow, it just didn’t sit right with me considering how quickly he snapped at the start.

I’m guessing the Shichibukai who managed to take one of his arm is Doflamingo if that particular pirate is currently alive and well. It’s a little hard to believe that Doflamingo (or any of the Shichibukai, for that matter) is capable of such a feat. but powers levels in these sort of movies are irrelevant.

Luffy v Z could’ve really used a bit more time, on another note. On that note, I feel like the whole movie should’ve been 20 or so minutes longer just to let a few moments and developments “breathe” a bit, of sorts.

Aokiji’s involvement in the movie was pretty interesting, on the other hand. Neutral for the most bit but cool all the way through, that’s Aokiji in the flesh for you. Robin and Aokiji having a little silent moment was a nice treat too, definitely brought back memories of the late Vice-Captain.

Marines’ lack of professionalism is definitely another gripe from my side. Z’s ambition was set in stone with the very first End Point destruction but then sending just ‘minions’ to the 2nd destination and only Kizaru for the 3rd underwhelming, if I’m to be brutally honest. Sending just the fleet admiral would’ve done the trick in all honesty considering his whole power revolves around lava manipulation. But well, this is just a minor gripe anyway.

On to the brighter side of things now. Animation, first and foremost, was absolutely enthralling during some of the action scenes. Felt like a really good video game at times with the masterful use of CGI. Soundtracks weren’t half-bad at all either and Avril Lavinge’s presence a pleasant surprise.

Characters were on point too with the interactions, clothing and the usual. Kid Nami and teen Robin was a dai-service too lol. All in all, no complaints here at all.

Going to settle with a solid and well-deserved 7/10. On to the Strong World next!

More Ain is always good ! Thx zorro for not cuting her half lol

Whats that scar on legs πŸ€”

Lot of problem in this movie , fight are so fast that its hard to tell where each of characters are

Usualy in one piece the characters have trouble against bad guy , then win back in the same fight , in that case its 3 diferent fights
Sad i couldnt see a part where Ain was wining

Still that some kind of usefull power , but she can only make it work if she touch the target , wich mean she got nothing before
She can do things like against zorro and summon fire , but its easy to avoid

6/10 , adding a cute girl and not giving her fanservice is not ok for me
Loli world is just a cute world full of cute meat

Zephyr is a man's man.

I liked it way more than expected, perhaps even more than Gold. Didn't expect Kuzan to get sooo much screentime but I loved that he did.

Also SUUUUPEEEER cool moments for Franky as well. 😎

Z vs Kizaru fight in the beginning was awesome! The best fight in the movie IMO.

Ain is waifu tier! Too bad she didn't end up fighting Sanji. Also, I think she has the hots for Z?

Robin looks the same in her late teens and in her 30s. I think she has bigger boobs as an adult? Young Nami is so adorable! It was funny when Sanji was close to crossing the point of no return. lol

Plot is average as usual. It's a fanservice movie after all. I didn't like the pacing in the middle. I think this movie would've been better if it was 30 mins shorter. 8/10

My god this is the best One Piece movie so far.

Z was a really good written character for sure
His backstory, his sense of justice.
I feel you dude but he goes too extreme at the end.

Seeing Aokiji again post Marine Ford was Amazing.

Man the Animation really improve a lot from previous movie.
I really like the camera movement in the fight scene.
That's really cool.
Damn the Sakuga went hard!!

9/10

Because they used Avril Lavigne songs at the end.
I will never expect to hear Avril Lavigne songs in One Piece movie.

when 99% of pirates are utter deplorable scums who loot kill rape exploit and eradicate entire races' can u really blame Z for the burden he was willing to take after his experience .He had to shake hands with killers. He was much sane than i would ever be.
As for the animation it was classy.Clean ,precise and powerfull. The fights were good though i didn't like how it culminated. The antagonist was built upon being a killer of devil fruits who couldn't be touched and yet Luffy had no qualms doing that .I guess the power of friendship and third time lucky helped ..cough.Didn't like how the girlie was also defeated. Her power was broken and i would have liked the crew to conjure up a counter but came Zoro and pew pew wind splash and the end !!
