Episode 2

-Okay, I’ll come out and say it, I dislike the opening very much. The song was so annoying and thus I was not able to enjoy the op animation, so I have no clue whether it was good or just as bad as the song. I don’t know if I’ll change how I feel regarding the opening but that’s how I feel at the moment.

-Ric blushing and getting nervous at the thought of being alone in a room with his gf, a.k.a Nino, was so adorably funny.

-Just like Araragi in Bakemonogatari, the leading guy of this anime is also a perv. XD

-The reason why Ric cried while Nino was washing his hair was so touching!

-“Amen!” The church and sister scenes were hilarious! ROFL!

-I don’t know if the people from Nino’s village are sane or just plain crazy but I know that they made me laugh a lot.

The ED was much better than the OP IMHO, I must say.

I rewatched Episode 2 again and here are some additional thoughts:

Sister firing that gun to gather everyone points to Christianity's history of violence and how it was used in the past to force people to accept it. This is further enforced by Recruit's line: "They are being domesticated" when commenting on the cookie handouts.

Also, the impression that Sister is a gun enthusiast ("His scent reeks of gunpowder") is a play on the political ideas of the right-wing about religion, scare-mongering, and arms bearing.

It took me a while to realize that even though Recruit seems to be from an rich, upper-class background, he has the ability to humble himself to the living conditions of Nino's village.

I am uncertain as to whether these messages were implied intentionally or accidentally but there's no denying that they're very well thought of.

........ Finally, I found the best show of this season, or rather, the best female lead of this season, yay for me!!! XDDDD ( PS: Minus the Shitbo bits and Ararararararararagi's voice of course. But Shiki + Bibanon..... Such succulent bliss, what more can I possibly ask for?!!!) Xd

The show reveals the OP and ED to us with this episode, both are good songs, but nothing special, as many people think. They fit and they're well animated, that's all.

Arakawa surely relies on the weirdness, which is the main thing that makes it so enjoyable. The weird situations and weird characters, such as Sister, the guys from the welcoming party, the kappa mayor or even the heroine - Nino.

I believe she's the ultimate best part of the series, with her laid-back attitude and warm approach it's just so great to watch all the scenes involving her and Kou, the bit in his "house" and the bath was just lol.

I wouldn't dare calling Arakawa better than SHAFT's previous huge success - Bakemonogatari, although for sure it's a great, weird and funny title.

Okay I had a lot of laughs in this episode, those guys are completely crazy.
Which is odd, this episode was almost entirely filled with dialogue and explanations. Usually, I would get bored quickly, but this episode really grab my interest all the way.
And the animation is still awesome.

Recruit is your typical dumbfounded "nice guy" protagonist, but he finds himself in a very -unique- situation with a cast of kooky characters, so I guess the absurdity of it all and seeing how he changes as a result of his unconventional life under the bridge is what makes you want to keep watching. I look forward to seeing Nino and Recruit actually falling for each other. I'm usually not into romance unless I like both of the characters involved, and that's not too often. I like both the OP and ED as well.

i'm a sucker for weird stuff so this is like a candy-treat for me. i loved the episode that was even weirder than the first and i hope it will be getting weirder and weirder and weirder as time passes! xD i saw a lot of people mentioned bakemonogatari.. well i dunno why, but after watching a few eps of it some time ago i dropped it. it just didn't push the right button back then. but maybe i will re-pick it now and might change my mind..
anyway back to the point, about this show, at last i found a female protagonist that doesn't get on my nerves! that's very rare! Nino is plain awesome! :D i wish more girl characters where like her!

That's what I thought too! When Sister brought out the gun, I was thinking "Church of Violence"!!! LOL

I was a little wary with episode one, but this ep was quite fun. It has a nonsensical Alice in Wonderland type feel to it.
Nino and Recruit make an amusing pair, but the Sister is epic lolz.

I found the part where Nino said "I want to hear what you are, not what you have." somewhat touching.

^I liked that scene a lot.

The hair washing was funny yet kinda sweet too.

Mass & Sister both = win.

I just keep going back and forth between thinking how weird this is and how much I like it.

Don't like the OP, the ED is fine.

This is just too shafty, with overuse of gag comedy. It's bearable though, almost kind of funny in some instances.
