Very powerful episode.
That hairstyle suits Rin a lot!

This may be rushing the source material, but the pacing felt great to me, like finally some more development for the two, also that ending, I knew about it before but forgotten... this shit is going to be even heavier from now on.

Shigure being deliciously twisted again. What a monster. But I kind of relate to him.

Though his methods are cruel, and at times he seems to enjoy others' misery, he almost always speaks the truth, as much as he deceives and manipulates.

My interpretation of his character is that, despite the fact that he appears to enjoy causing others pain, I believe it is moreso that he deems it necessary for people to understand the cold hard truth of the world and not lies or fantasy.

Is he a good person? No. He acts purely for his own self-interests. But his harsh behaviour towards Tohru can be justified as being "for her own good."

The fact that he appears to enjoy delivering the horrible truth I think is really due to the sick amusement one may find in realizing the kind of world we live in.

As a cynic myself, there are times when I too inexplicably smile in certain horrible and sick situations. The only way I can explain it is that when one is so absolutely disgusted with humankind or the world and how it operates, you may find yourself smiling at the utter disgust, irony, and senselessness of it all.

Perhaps it is a defense mechanism. If you can't find the amusement in it, it could destroy you.

Even though I've read the manga before, the show is still out here giving me goosebumps 🥺 Loved this episode, especially since we got to see more of Tohru's past and her feelings.

Rin looks like Nadeko from the final season of Monogatari xD

That ending was shivering wth

Might be the best episode so far. What Shigure said was his best line so far without counting his jokes

That ending was so creepy. It's obvious what happened but I didn't know that Kyo forgot about it.

So everyone will eventually get free of the curse randomly just because they are "the last generation"... Ok, the story has to end but that doesn't make any sense. The Kyou and Tohru moment was cute but they decided to end it in a cliffhanger with Kyou remembering something that we didn't know, again the author is going to pull something out of nowhere...?

I'm sad they skipped bits of the manga for later, because those bits further hammer this point in. ooomf the feeels

What an episode! I absolutely love seeing a human side to Tohru and I believe that this is the first time throughout the whole show that she has felt like a human.

Damn, what an emotionally powerful episode. Probably the best Furuba episode until now bar that Kyo episode in the first season.

One thing though, the tone of the cliffhanger at the end doesn't sit well with me.

5/5

While true, the way Shigure said it was quite harsh. Unexpected to find out there was a reason behind gramps calling Tohru Kyoko and also Kyo already met Kyoko. Feels like this came out of nowhere but good to see next episode we'll see what actually happened.

Ohh, we finally get to see Rin again and her beautiful long hair is gone... *sob**sob**sob*
But she is still cute with her new haircut nonetheless.
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

damn i teared down this episode, the story of tohru and his father/mother was really sad :(

but though they talked about tohru's mother, i have feeling it's all around it and there's really something much bigger and deeper here. specially with the relationship seen of kyou and kyoko. i guess it's related that cliffhanger. damn that caught me!

SHIGURE FINALLY SHOWED HIS TRUE COLORS TO TOHRU!! AGHHH

I remember now! "The last banquet", all the zodiac being alive at the same time... maybe the curse will break if Kyo is invited to the banquet? I'm just thinking out loud, I can't clearly remember how it broke, but I do have this lingering feeling it was sudden...

So that's what happened! Tohru's mom didn't try to kill herself, she just disappeared!! I was really scared when her "ghost" appeared though, Tohru is still not able to put Kyo first...

What happened between Kyo and Kyoko?? They revealed her and Kyo knew each other from when Kyo was little, but he watched her die?? I kind of rememeber something about it, but not sure what!!

THE SHATTERED PHOTO ON THE ENDING!!!

I'm so glad we got to see Tohru's backstory and the reasons for her politeness. She almost seemed like Jesus-kun but this satisfied me.

Ways Tohru and I are similar:
- Both of us can think of ourselves as selfish.

It was so sad hearing about how Tohru's dad passing really impacted her, especially because of how her mother reacted. It was good how she could release everything to Kyou though, and he let her.

Also the revelation of the curse breaking from Shigure. He's obviously been behind something this whole time.

And it was also so sad how Kyou's "ex girlfriend" attacked Tohru, because she literally did nothing to deserve it.

Also, it was so satisfying to hear Tohru admit that she loves Kyou.

Tohru's grandpa calling her Kyoko to keep her alive to Tohru and Tohru imitating her father's mannerisms to do the same thing for Katsuya is just so sad.

Kagura slapping Tohru and telling her she needs to tell Kyo how much she genuinely cares about him is true. Tohru keeps thinking it but she keeps holding back.

oh well, this episode was the most intense of all.
now I only can think of Kyo somehow killing Tohru's mother too. i mean, she looked pretty much dismembered (you wouldnt get that dismembered from just a car accident, right?) and she also said that shed not forgive him. gave me the goosebumps.
yes.

What an episode! It was full with emotions, and I was almost crying through it all, seeing how much Tohru as suffered, yet, she keeps it all to herself...
It's OK for Tohru to be putting Kyo first than her mother, as someone pointed it out, she can still help Kyo, while for her mother she can't do anything... That scene with the balcony was just so beautiful, just WOW, this anime only gets better and better, and this episode has to be my favorite from the all series. It was just honest, Shigure was honest to Tohru, Kagura was just honest with Tohru, and now Tohru is just being honest to Kyo. Their relationship is so organic, cute and beautiful at the same time. They need to end up together, so we need to break that curse, Kyo can't get closed away!
All this time, Tohru was trying to remember her mother of dad, by speaking like him, that's just heartbreaking.
Shigure making the realization that the Zodiac Members all know what's going to happen to Kyo, and no one does anything, because they want to look at him and feel a little bit better about themselves, it's just shattering... But it really is the truth.
THAT FINAL SCENE, WHAT HAPPENED? HOW IS KYO INVOLVED WITH TOHRU'S MOTHER DEATH? If I'm not mistaken, they really haven't said how she died, did they? What has the cap have anything to do with that? What did Tohru see when she looked at Kyo?
I was revisiting some older episodes, because honestly I don't remember some details about the story, it has been quite some time I have seen the 1st and 2nd seasons, and I was rewatching episode 8 of the second season, and while Tohru and Kyo were playing on the beach, Akito is watching, and she said "What a carefree monster, despite being a mother killer", and I'm just like, maybe she was only talking about Kyo's mom that took her own life, but she didn't said "his mom killer", but used a generic term "mother killer", like it has happened more than once... Was that foreshadowing to this? I randomly chose that episode honestly, but I was shocked when I read that... And then in episode 9, when Akito and Kyo were talking, Kyo seemed to remember this exact scene... And Kyoko's words "I won't forgive you!" This has been foreshadowed for so long, and I didn't even layed my eye on it! This is what led to Kyo not wanting to be with Tohru, because he "wasn't worth of her love, and didn't want to trample over her again". On episode 14 of Season 2, it was also hinted Tohru's reveal from the past, that she did everything in her way to make her mom be by her side. This anime is just amazing, I get impressed by it more and more!

Edit: Was rewatching some older stuff, and the foreshadowing comes from episode 14 of Season 1, where Hanajima says to Kyo his waves are screaming, and she asks him why he feels so much regret in that graveyard (they were visiting Kyok's grave in this episode). They really are details you're not paying attention to first, but that are really important. He also never looked directly to the grave, as if he was ashamed of something he did. I also completely forgot this episode ends in a sinister note, with saying sorry to Tohru while she was sleeping.

Shigure is now unredeemable in my eyes. I now get why he likes Akito. It's like the saying goes, "water seeks its own level".

And the love between Tohru and Kyo is pure. The truest sign of love is when you put your partner before everyone, even your own parents. It's also selfish though. She cares about Kyo way more than the other zodiacs. That's realistic love.

And even though Kyo was rough and brash, he's actually emotionally mature and sensitive. As I've said, water seeks its own level. Two people who are kind and care for each other, but also a bit selfish for each other, are together.

When you first watched the first episode of Fruits Basket, you'd think it's just a simple Shoujo anime, but it's more than that. It's actually deep and dark too. The words they're saying have so much meaning to it.

MY God! I was crying a lot at Tohru's childhood experience!

She got him back. If you understand the characters well enough, you'd know she did!
