The amount of time focused of Emilia's cuteness greatly surpassed the amount of plot reveled in this episode.

Sorry I don't check profiles.

So the Witch Cult supplying Emilia's village, the village protecting a "seal", the connection between Geuse and Fortuna, Echidna's distaste towards Emilia's person for seemingly lore-related reasons, Geuse's motivations and why seeing Emilia broke him, what the fairies were after by leading Emilia around, Regulus's role in all this... and two minutes of Emilia sneaking around to learn information and a single scene of her having puffy cheeks surpassed "plot reveled" in this episode?

Just admit you're not really watching and go. Plot can lie in subtext and mystery rather than action.

This was probably the best epsiode of the second season (including the first half) so far.
Emilia was in desperate need for some character development/backstory (even tho I've seen the Frozen Bonds OVA) and while Otto & Garfiel being fleshed out as characters was also kinda nice (I still don't care about them tbh, but at least they're actual characters now), this is definitely way more interesting. Seeing Geuse before he went insane and started to look deranged was great too! :)
Regulus is really annoying, but that's his whole thing ig & he's a villain, so it's fine.

Really excited for the next episode! :)

Basically, can't accept that there are a few people who don't view this anime as a 9 or 10, and just come up with bullshit terms to hide the insecurities. Sorry to burst the bubble there.

Regulus appears again! Easily the Highlight of the Episode!
Other than that... Well, that was truly boring... for the most part at least.
Seeing Betelgeuse not crazy, yet i could hear
"Ah, you are-
truly slothful..."
and especially "My Brain trembles" all the time lol
Just when He appears it ends, What a cliffhanger with Regulus.

Little Emilia is so cute and so precious. Adorable. <3
Great episode on the whole, loving the presentation and how we're seeing all the little touching scenes from Emilia's past. Very compelling.

Random seal in the middle of nowhere, I thought it was a seal on Emilia because Echidna called her the daughter of a Witch last episode, what is the seal really for? Will Emilia be the one who breaks it? Is that why she accepted the seal on her memories? Cause she's couldn't face her own guilt for somehow breaking the seal?

Damn, I totally did not expect Betelgeuse to be what he was in this episode, I recognized the outfit but I wasn't expecting him to make an appearance especially not the way he did. How did it go so wrong my man?

Insert at the end was so good. Curious to see what happens.

Again, disappointed we didn't get the OP, but glad that we got another 30 min episode + ED (without visuals, but ED nonetheless).

So, something's telling me we will se how the fuck Geuse ended so messed up. We got to see him before his brain trembled.

Geuse, you dense motherfucker

I said it once and I'll say it again. Smol Emilia is sooo cute!

nearly 30mins of runtime and 90% of the comments are just about how cute smol emilia is

this arc really has been testing my patience with so much screen time i wonder if it's even gonna finish by the end of the season at the pace it's going.

seeing Geuse "normal" was strange and put what we know about him in a different perspective looking back at seasone 1..lol dude was still a cultist just not that crazy

whole episode was wondering like all this seems not that bad and they once again hide it right till the end Regulus being the cause might explain why you'd be so traumatized from what i remember him doing at the start of the season

So, this is obviously mostly laying the groundwork for the darker parts of Emilia's past - as acknowledged by Echidna calling this all "a warm-up" for the true Trial - but even here we can see some fragments of how Emilia became the character we know in the present, such as why promises are so important to her. I['m also guessing the seal has something to do with Puck, based on the frozen landscape in its immediate vicinity?

However, there's one thing I'm far more interested in thus far than Emilia's much-needed backstory: Betelgeuse. First off, hasn't like 400 years passed between these flashbacks and the present? If Betelgeuse has already lived a long time at this point, how old was he by the time of Arc 3? I was under the impression that he was human, so I'm a little bit confused on that front. That aside, I have to say I did not expect him to have known Emilia in the past, and seeing him as anything but the intimidating madman we saw in season 1 is certainly quite strange.

And then there's the "return" of Regulus after being entirely absent since his mysterious appearance at the start of the second season. I was working under the assumption that his presence there was a long-game move to sow the seeds for a later arc, so I'm a little surprised to see him make another appearance. Not that I'm complaining though, as we might learn a few more things about him and Echidna from his actions here (he is the Archbishop of Greed, after all). At the very least, with Betelgeuse still being sane at this point, it's intriguing to learn that the Witch's Cult did exist at that point.

A lot of gaps still to be filled, but a very promising start to Emilia's trial.

The flashback takes place just 100 years ago.

Emilia is actually 114 years old in human years, the anime left that part out due to time constraints.

Absolutely fantastic episode. This is another episode I've been waiting to see and White Fox did not disappoint especially given it's another full 29 mins.

We got a good look into Emilia's past seeing how she was as a child, her finding the seal and meeting Geuse. Smol Emilia is just so adorable but unfortunately it's not all sunshine and rainbows once Regulus shows up.

I'm very much looking forward to the next episode.

Ok, half of this episode for me was:

"WTF ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT?"

"WHY IS EMILIA SO SPECIAL, WHY DOES SHE NEED TO STAY LOCKED?"

"WHO ARE HER PARENTS?"

"WTF IS THE SEAL?"

"WHY ECHIDNA DOES NOT KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT?"

"WHO WAS GEUSE? WHY IS HE OLDER THAN AN ELF?"

"WHY IS EMILIA SO ESPECIAL TO HIM?"

And the other half was:

HHHHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

One line that stands out to me is how either Geuse (or maybe it was the Aunt) said how Geuse either can't/shouldn't see Emila. Then when he finallt does he cries tears of joy. That's pretty bizarre if you ask me. I was also curious how tf he ends up a psycho but I guess this previous Bishop of Greed showing up kinda answers that.

If I remember correctly it was at the beginning of arc 2 when Emilia was talking with lesser spirits and Subaru compared her to a fairy (as a compliment). She got mad and explained to him that fairies are evil.

I can think of two other.

The first one was already mentioned in the thread - promises are very important to Emilia and this episode showed why.

The second one shouldn't be a spoiler if you have a keen eye, but I'll add the spoiler tag nonetheless.

Finally another archbishop feels threatening, we saw two of them in the beginning of the season but they felt really insipid for me. The witch cult and witches theme are my favourite thing from this story, so I really hope I can like the rest of them archbishops.

It is a fact that we have Smol Emilia, born and raised in the Forest Elf Village, 100 years ago, 300 years after Witch of Envy mayheim.

Why is she so special to this ancient Geuse, Protector of the Seal? Is the Seal... the seal of Sattela?

(maybe one of them, since Sattela is still not free)

And the coincidence of their same appearance and half-elf heritage CAN'T be just a coincidende.

- Small Emilia may be a clone?

- Was her mother... Echidna? (maybe the responsible for the clone)

- Could be a reincarnation? But wait, Sattela WoEnvy is not dead, her body can't be destroyed.

Other theory:

- Was Puck not Subaru... but one that lesser spirit, turned into a strong one?

holy shit that was really interesting episode, really going in depth into Emilia's backstory and i'm enjoy it. Real interesting stuff regarding how Emilia was kept mostly isolated, with Mother Fortune taking care of her. The seal and it's link to Emilia are really interesting, really looking forward to the rest.
Emilia and Echidna's interactions were about what i excepted, could be me, but i feel like Echidna is getting a small case of the jealous when regarding Subaru and Emilia xD Aw feels bad, but Echidna still got a special place in my heart.

My boy Geuse (or Petelgeuse pre-insanity) we get to see him again! Ngl, absolutely loved his character in season 1, felt like they hit the nail on the head with creating his creepy personality, strange inhuman movements and antagonist vibe, but since season 1, i've always wanted to know his backstory, and now that it's shown, man i'm loving it. Although he did seem to be a bit off even then, it's nice to see him human again and be happy :) His relationship with mother fortune is really sweet as well. Really happy about his backstory and the detail in it.

One big question that's only occurred to me rn is, are all the witch cults inhumane and crazed, just causing catastrophes when ever? Ngl, Geuse ( and what i presume is the cult of sloth at the time) seemed like really nice person to the forest dwellers, that or it was special treatment for them. Either way, i'm interested to know if back then, or even in this present time, if all the witch cults are just super inhumane and causing havoc, since we've only seen, 2 of 7 i think?

Also, out of curiosity, could of been the concept of the "dream" world they were in, but was sorta surprised Echidna didn't sense or even recognise one of her own archbishops. Ngl if i was in Regulus position, where i was not just one of her fans, but one of her top fans to rise to archbishop, even i'd be slightly hurt not to be recognised :c

All in all, amazing episode, so much backstory was dropped and explaining things, really looking forward to the next episodes. The appearance of another archbishop is interesting, and probably a red flag, looking like shit might hit the fan, but i'm looking forward to see what happens.
