What the bloody f was that? It didn't make any sense. Or rather there was no point to it. This show was a big letdown with some big secret always overshadowing everyone's happiness with angst, only to find out that the big secrets are stupid, disappointing and shallow, thus making the whole thing ridiculous. But the ending.. that was on a whole new level. One giant mess, that's what it was. At least the OST was good most of the time. |

What just happened? ... They could've at least explained why she's still alive or something. This series really got a lot of "WTF?" moments. 6/10 |

I don't know why people thinks she came back from death. remember what Otoha said : " It was hard to convince the Spirit committee to do this.. " Basicallly, hirose was given a chance to have a moment with her. Get it people? Besides, did any1 come back to life in the whole series? NO! I luv the whole story btw 10/10, goes to my favorites. |

...well then. This series seemed like a bundle of hit and miss episodes. Although there was a ton of stuff I couldn't stand, I'm glad I kept watching and the ending was quite lovely, to me. :D |

XD A beautiful and perfect ending. Overall 10/10 I love it too! do you know animes like it coz i watched it's user recommendations but i only liked myself yourself and air I highly recommend Clannad, Clannad: After Story, Kanon, Ef: a tale of memories/melodies. They are all VERY good shows, and somewhat like H2O, especially Clannad. All of 'em are masterpieces, imo. All in all I must say that this show was better than I thought it would be. And after marathoning those animes I just mentioned, I've gotten used to these kinds of *boom, it wuz magics!* endings. I'd say overall, 9/10, just cause I like this kind of ending and if Hayami had really died in such a dumb way, I would've been pissed. While I'm writing this, I guess I'll throw in my two cents about what happened in the end. Otoha wanted Hirose to get over his mom's death, so she kind of orchestrates all of the events that led up to Hayami's (dumb) death. The only way that Hirose would have remembered that his mom didn't actually kill herself is if the same thing happened again, thus Hayami dies. Then in the end it was a "lesson learned, heres your reward" deal and Hayami returns. (kinda like Clannad? Or maybe this spirit councel bit will show up in the next ep of Bleach...) Anyways, thats my interpretation. I do think that the ending could have been a little clearer, as I'm still a bit confused from all the memory jumping and resurrection magic. Maybe I'll rewatch it sometime. |

Just finished watching it. Then replayed Ep. 12 about 10 times to figure out what happened. The first time watching through it I assumed Hayami avoided the train and she was behind it. What didn't make sense is that she wasn't there afterwards. About 10 times more of watching various parts of the episode, it still seems like she didn't get hit. Heres what seems to have happened (btw, using m.3.3.w subs, so if the subs are wrong, my analysis could be wrong as well). Reasons why I think Hayami was not hit by the train: 1) The scene before the train Hayami runs PAST the first train track when she gets tot he boy and holds him there. It is very obvious to see that the train came on the first train track. She was already past it when she got to the boy. 2) She turns around and smiles at Hirose. That shows that she made it across, and shes happy that she made ti across. If she didn't make it across yet, she wouldn't turn around yet (at least thats what normal people would do). She wouldn't smile and hold a kid as two people get run over. It is clear that Hayami didn't want to die based on the events in Ep 11. Even though she was hated, she resisted getting shot by the 2 guys with guns, and proceeded to run away from them. Theres no reason she would want to go back to the first tracks and die here. 3) There is a shot under the train part way through while its passing. There is no hand falling off like in Ep 11 where Hirose imagines his moms death. There is no blue blood or whatever that was around her hand in Ep 11. The tracks are perfectly clean, showing the train didn't smash anyone. 4) When his eyes open again, Otoha uses "accepted" asking if he accepts the PAST. What happens in Ep 12 seems like its just used so he finds out what actually happened to his mom, rather then to say Hayami died. 5) The sound very clearly plays the sound of a train going by. It even plays the beginning of the train coming by as it pushes the wind. It also continues to play the sound as the train goes by. It very clearly doesn't even play a slight hint of sound of anything being hit. A train hitting practically any object with mass at the speed it was going would make sound. If they were to hide the crash and pretend it just happened, there would likely be a splash/blank screen rather then a train going by with no crash. 6) When Otoha says "it was hard to convince the spirit committee to do this", shes probably talking about reviving herself as a kid. Every other time Otoha was older then she was in this scene. She probably for whatever reason couldn't come back to this world and needed to convince the spirit committee to allow her to. She could also be talking about convincing the spirit committee to allow other people (Hayami) to see here, since it was clear in earlier episodes that only Hirose could see her. 7) When Hayami returns, shes aged like all the other people. If she died, she would look the same as right before she died. She clearly aged. What makes the most sense to have happened: Hayami saves the boy, but leaves because she still feels she is impacting Hirose's memories or thoughts in some negative way. She turns around and smiles and sees Hirose's eyes open. She knows Hirose is back to his old self, and doesn't need his help to see and do stuff anymore. Otoha is the only person who knows where Haymi is after she disspears. She needs permission from the spirit council to contact with Hayami, and persuade her to go back to Hirose. I think that makes sense more then the whole 'she got hit by a train from a different track, that made no crash sound, smiled about holding a boy on the tracks with her, didn't get hurt with blood or injuries' thing. |

hudang said: is there a chance that the kids and hayami didn't hit by train? >.< I don't think she got hit. Different train tracks. No blood or falling arm like his mom's death in his visions, no crash sound. She smiles holding a kid when PAST the tracks. Would be illogical to walk back onto the tracks with the kid. If she was the type of person that would kill the kid and herself by jumping back to the first train track, theres no way she'd want to go back and see Hirose. |

... Man, I haven't watched H2O for a loooong time, so I may get the names and characters mixed up. HAHAHA. This show was.. amazing. I mean, I didn't really think that way for the first few episodes ; I MEAN it was like, Hirose 'opened' his eyes and no one noticed and stuff. I mean, a blind.. boy.. suddenly opened his eyes, and woohoo for him, no questions asked? Lack of logic, much? .. OR SO I THOUGHT. Well i was clearly wrong, so FORGIVE ME D: IT'S AMAZING. IT'S INCREDIBLE. IT'S LIFE x333 .. Kay so anyway.. such a heated discussion on whether Hayami was really alive at the end, eh? It's true that she may have been alive up till that point, but as for me, I was one of those people who believed that she died xD I mean, SPIRIT council, seriously! She has to die to be involved with them! OR SHE HAXED. D: |

The episode left me with a huge WTF. I mean Hayami dies and then she comes back to life, as a spirit or an actual breathing person, I have no idea. Also before the end, I really want to know whose baby that was exactly.... I have to admit, I could not believe that Hayami actually got run over by a train, that was just.....terrible. This show was okay. I didn't enjoy it that much, except for the Takuma X Hayami scenes... Also the whole Takuma could see for most of the show, then turns out he couldn't, just threw me off. What a confusing show. I give it a 4/10. Not one of the best series out there. |

However, the ending is very " OPEN " to think whether she's dead or not. Personally I think she was an Spirit cuz Otoha is a Spirit and is mentioned the word "Spirit" a lot as well lol. Nothing about resurrection. Otherwise they could've revived hitoshi's mother to make the story short lol . WHAT- EVER! ... |

yeah this anime series was pretty confusing and mest up...I think it would have been better if Hayami stayed dead or died because it would have made sense with Hirose accepting and realizing what happened with his mom and him building the windmill for hayami...also it was pretty much a wtf moment when Maki had Hamji's child o_O overal i gave this show a 8/10 because the music and character development was good |

Whats up with this stupid ending??? Hayami dies and then like in the fairy tail comes back to life only because Otoha convinced some mighty spirit to send her back... It was a quite touching ending when the train squashed her, but the comeback part screwed it all up. Anyway, a fairy tail stays a fairy tail. So logic doesn't work here... |

the ending was awesome but yeah thats what i wanna know too, why did hayame just stood there and didnt like jump on the side plus did the real hinata changed what happened in the past thats why hayame came back to life...coz she cant be alive without changing the past..or maybe she is a spirit too |

Until the last minutes of this anime I tought this has a damn cheesy ending, but i was wrong, it was more cheesy. Some things doesn't make sense like how does Hotaru know where is Hayami's diary, How's Hayami revived and also about return of Hinata, i mean Otoha. A so so series, i give this a 7.5/10 |

I can't help but think that hayami wasn't actually with hirose at the train tracks. Could it have just been a vision/dream shown to him by otoha to accept the death of his mother? |

Well at least they are together. 10/10 because first i didnt realize that what hypersonixz - btw thank you - said. I thought she came back as a spirit BUT that wouldn't make much sense because it wouldnt explain the train-scene (where there was NO RED, like in his dream..) and yeah.. Just finished this series...it was pretty good. I was thrown off by how Hirose's memory went backwards....... hypersonixz, I like your explanation of what happened. I wish most animes like this had a straight forward understandable ending but somehow keep it just as interesting. Because personally I though she got hit by the train and came back as a spirit. But now looking back on it, Hirose wasn't like super shocked when Hayami came back in the end, so he probably knew she was alive? But for some reason nobody else knew? |

Ah, that was a great anime. Seriously unpredictable, so many things happened that made me *gasp*. The ending almost made me cry, when Hayami was hit by the train, and the context was great. I was touched, I like. 8/10. The ending gave it a +1 extra for it being kickass; I do kinda wish to see the "trap" wear something else though. At least he married to Maki though, so we all know that he isn't homosexual. Static said: wawawawawawawa wait a click! This is based on a (h-)game? *goes lower the score even more* ...wtf are you serious? you lower anime scores because it's based on a H game? With all due respect, that's hella retarded, you should just stop rating anime if that's how you judge them. hypersonixz said: Reasons why I think Hayami was not hit by the train: 1) The scene before the train Hayami runs PAST the first train track when she gets tot he boy and holds him there. 1) I can see where you are comming from based on the ground, but there's a chance that the view was made between the 2 tracks (the space in between, since we saw that Hirose started running into the tracks), and since the camera view was distorted at that time, we can't tell for certain. 2) I don't see how you can say she made it across when in the anime it showed she didn't. There are a few possibilities on why she stopped, but since this wasn't put into the anime, we don't know exactly why, but the two I'm thinking, based on all the given information, is that she somehow realized how to recover Hirose from his illness, and sacrifices herself (but this doesn't explain the convinence of the boy taking his role), so number two is that she didn't have enough time to get acorss, and when she realized that Hirose regained his eyes so she smiled. When my lover wakes up, the first thing I want to show her is a smile. 3) The death showed in episode 11 is completely different from the death happened here. Episode 11 are meant to be dramatic, thus showing the resemblance of blood, and the way the colors are used to show the anger and all that emotions. But here in episode 12, they put in colors to show this as more of a "I realized this now when I have just lost it". The ending of the anime was also a sweet one, and I'm sure that's how the artist intended it to be, recapping the sweet lines said in the earlier episodes as well as going over the other character's lives. Now, imagine that the artists really DID put in the falling hand, red background, and all that things like they showed in Episode 11, I don't see how they'll be able to connect as well as fix viewer's emotions to accept the sudden changes in a few seconds, people will feel "rushed" and their ways of thinking will be jumping out of places. So I think how they showed as much as they can to give the idea Hayami died, but without so much intense, dramatic scene, so they can still have the sweet happy ending they wanted. 4) I'm not quite sure what you're saying here, but Otoha wasn't asking Hirose anything... unless bad sub. 5) This goes back to what I said above, this anime's ending could NOT have happened the way it happened if they put in train-hitting and bone-crushing sounds. Like I said, if that part of the anime happened that way, it'll be too hard and weird, to connect to what happens after. 6) Okay, so now I have just realized you watched a sub (dumb me), and let me tell you, no. What Otoha said is to be taken as it is, she's NOT talking about herself, she's talking about Hayami. What you said about the part "it was hard to convince the Spirit Committee" was correct, she did say that, but the line that comes AFTER is the important one that tells us who she is talking about. I'm not that good at translating (I saw it raw), but she basically said "It was hard convincing the Spirit Committee, so make sure you watch her properly this time." I don't blame you how you saw it like that, probably bad subs, or you... I don't know, spaced out or something. She said that right after saying about convincing the Spirit Committee. 7) Okay, your way of thinking is getting worse and worse, I would recommend you rewatching the anime. Otoha (Hinata) died as a kid, but she appeared older in Spirit when appearing in front of Hirose, so I don't see where you are standing when you said "Hayami didn't die because she aged". And lastly, as for your "makes most sense theory", doesn't make much sense at all. You wrote heavily about the missing dramatic scene when Hayami gets hit by the train, you need to focus on the bigger picture here, with the given ending like that, it's impossible to make such a huge turn-around emotion on viewers if they make her death to have that much of an impact. We would not be able to accept such a happy ending if we see Hayami get splattered into pieces. Try putting yourself in their shoes for once and think, I would be happy if I realize my lover can see again, and I wouldn't want them to see me with an ugly face on my deathbed deathrail. |

Wow.. I was watching the entire episode with this dreadful look on my face.. I mean I wouldn't have hated an ending where she remained as his guardian and then he simply had dreamt of all the times they were together.. That'd have been nice. But they continued.. And so Kohinata brought him back by a harsh reality check. THat was crazy~ D: I didn't think- Okay it was in the back of my mind but damn.. I thought that with his expression from the train scene that she was waiting on the other side of the tracks with the kid. Like, I was hoping that was the case. But then the epilogue came.. I was like, O_O "IknowshesgonnacomebackIknowshesgonnacomebackIknowshesgonnacomebackSHESGOTTACOMEBACK... SOMEHOW!" But then they started preachin' stuff from the BIBLE for christ sake.. WTH.. "shessodeadandnotcomingback..." T_T <--(That was me.) At the end, the older more grown up Takumi was really.. cool. He reminded me of Tomoya from Clannad. As soon as I saw that boar though, I knew something was up. Then I saw the little girl and was like, "Hey, isn't that...?" *le gasp* "That's Otoha!! What's she-" Then she said "It's been a while." and I had this silly smirk on my face all of a sudden. 8} And then it got BETTER! I had the SAME EXACT EXPRESSION as Takumi when I saw Kotohime walking up the hillside. <333 Speaking of Tomoya.. YAY! CLANNAD REBIRTH! xD They even had the little yellow specs from the show in this show. (And it's not pollen, thank you very much.) Aww... They're so cute together. Long ending but wow~! I really enjoyed the emotional roller coaster. :} BRING ON THE SPECIALS!! 8D |

Even though some will disagree but this is a masterpiece. I just got somewhat deeply touched from this anime that I even had to shed tears (though it's nearly impossible to make me do so). Well maybe it's just because some of my memories sort of connect with it or something like that. Anyway, great anime in my opionion. |

Great series overall. The most touched I have been at the end of an anime since I saw Clannad. I also thought for a minute that the trained had missed her, until Takuma talked about her in the past tense after the wind mill was done. I think Hayami's return was a gift from the spirits for Takuma helping to help bring the village back together after years of hate. Over all I say this show was a 10. |

Where in this episode did you learn that he didn't know she died? With all the given you've seen in the episode, she died right in front of him, and his reaction when Hayami reappeared in front of him pretty much shows that he thought Hayami was dead ever since the incident. 2) Hamaji and Maki made magic in bed. AliceMargatroid said: xMafiax said: At least he married to Maki though, so we all know that he isn't homosexual. erm, so if hirose married maki and had a child with her, then hayami comes bk, and they continued their relationship like i think they would, then wont he be committing adultery? if it was dat case it would be damn screwed up and make everyone hate him. Um... What? If Hayami came back then it's up to Hirose if he want to make it clear that he doesn't love Hayami anymore, or break up with Maki and go with Hayami. (He could also try to make it end with a Harem, and have them both). [Not quite sure why I was quoted on this lol, and the situation you gave here, by any chance it was based on "Kimi ga Nozomu Eien"?] To make this even more interesting, there's also a chance of Hirose ditching Maki and go with Hayami (with all the given above true). Then Maki goes crazy and stabs Hirose, and texted Hayami to meet her on the school's roof. A knife brawl breaks out, Maki lost and died 'cause Hayami's power is OVER NINE THOUSAND. Hayami then cut Maki's stomach open and to realize...! "naka ni, dare mo imasen yo!" (intended to not type in English here; another joke, for craps and giggles). Then everything ends with a very nice boat sailing off to sea. THE END :o MALz_Otaku said: 2 why otoha a kid o.o Reborn or Reincarnated. I've discussed with someone and actually, she's in her spirit form. No one else except Hirose and possibly Otoha (who kept all her memories apparently even after reborn/reincarnating) can see her. And here I'll explain why I think this: Otoha, the only clue we have to understanding the "spirits" in this anime. Otoha died as a kid -> age in spirit form -> reborned/reincarnated back as a human, but as a kid. Therefore, it's pretty safe to assume that Hayami, whom died in the car crash, came back in an aged form instead of a kid, I can say that she's still in her spirit form. |

Good series. I feel that the ambiguity of the ending let the finale of the series down a little bit, I believe a bit more should have been explained sometime during the story/in the finale episode. 1. Hayami - Hit by train, or after saving the kid, she decided to "leave" Hirose alone? 2. Hirose - Were his experiences an illusion, or could he actually see? (I believe he could not see, but this should have been explained) 3. Otoha/Hotaru's story - What was the impact of the story of the "spirit of the sounds of time"- Why does what Hotaru drew, come to pass throughout the series? It is set up to make it seem Otoha = Hinata - But what is the truth behind the "Spirit" ? Overall, I would rate this series 7.5/10 (Rounded up to 8 in MAL) because it kept me entertained throughout the series and was enjoyable. (Albeit, episodes 4 and 8, although they were decent, they seem misplaced) |
