Damn.... I was still rooting for Suwa. Why can't he save Kakeru AND get together with Naho as well? I mean, Kakeru's future doesn't depend solely on his love life, does it? Cause that'd be kinda sad. I'm starting to really get annoyed with Kakeru and Naho at this point.

yeah that's exactly what Takano said! Go back & see.
She was saying that he should confessed and it's not relevant to Kakeru dying, that they can still save him regardless.

She does have a very good point. The whole idea of all of them sending letters in the first place was so that they could save him, as his friends, because they cared. Them agreeing that Kakeru's continued existence depends on his successful love life with Naho would mean also having to accept the fact that whatever the rest of them do for him wouldn't really matter either way.

If their future selves really believed that, then why would they bother sending those letters at all?

Now we're at a quite delicate turn, things changed in this "parallel world" yet the ending might be the same, maybe Kakeru won't die but he won't be with his friends anymore.

For some reason I thought the art in the beginning was somehow off, but the last scenes with the snow were really beautiful.

Hagita, just marry her already.

How so? A lack of involvement can't possibly be forcing someone to commit suicide. Killing yourself is a decision you make of your own volition.

It's true that Naho screwed it up, but honestly... Kakeru is a damn selfish asshole. He doesn't care about others' feelings! Even tho his friends are always trying to cheer him up no matter what. It's clearly hard for Naho (insecure and introverted) to manage this complicated situation and she's trying to do her best! Someone like that does not change personality easily.

Suwa is the hero of this show. I will cry if he does not end up with Naho. I really hope the future Naho meant what she said.

Amazing anime. It is just a pitty that sometimes the animation turns weird.

WHHHHAAAATTT xD I can understand Kakeru's feelings but wasn't that a little bit over the top? And also what the fuck Naho? You knew exactly what to do and you still fucked it up... Holy shit that turned out even worse than the letters predicted xD

I mean Kakeru basically broke up with her and they weren't even dating yet(officially). Suwa doesn't listen to his friends either. I mean he doesn't have to marry her but at least trigger some events just in case... At least the meaningful events, please >.>

Oh man. If you think about it for that major fuck up Naho deserves neither of those two. Why is she so stupid D: The letter said everything. That part was so frustrating to watch.

Anyway. I'm curious what happens next. I thought they were on a good way but this really turned the tides. Anything could happen now. Kakeru really seemed like he was pissed beyond forgiving. I'm not sure Suwa could keep his promise to Naho and bring him back to her.

momazuniga said:
BUT GOD JESYS FREAKING CHRIST WHY WHY WHYYYY doesn't Suwa just tell Naho how he feels. That doesn't have to change anything... If Naho really does love Kakeru they would grow up to get married but sometimes high school love fades aways... SUWA has always been there and maybe that's why Naho says that SHE WOULD HAVE MARRIED SUWA ANYWAY... sooooo Suwa you just ruined your future no matter what happens.... Sorry Hubby Suwa I love you but had to call you out.

I had the exact same thought. It was so disappointing that he made this decision...

--------

edit: just saw a lot of people see the problem within Naho asking Kakeru to stay but if you ask me the bigger problem was what triggered all of that. She was brushing it aside like Kakeru's grandmother's illness was nothing. And even if we consider the letters there is no guaranty that she actually survives in this time line. It was the most stupid thing to just say "she'll be fine". Without that it might have turned out differently.

No one hates Kakeru more than he hates himself so leave the boy alone.

Naho messed up... again. Like everyone else is saying, she could have at least offered to go with him.

Even if they get married and even if they have a kid, it'll be a different sperm and a different kid. As soon as they sent those letters back they sacrificed their own baby and gambled everything else would turn out okay and someone else wouldn't get hit by a car or something.

And then they don't even bother trying to get Kakeru the professional help he needs. Also, he's a piece of garbage that can't even relate the pain of his mother's death to the pain he'll cause his friends, or he doesn't care.

I think these are the dumbest people to ever have a time machine.

Quite a few posts in this thread exemplify why depression remains largely untreated; people don't understand what is and how it affects people that suffer from it.

Depression is like having a temperamental cloud hanging over your head that can change in an instant at any time and for whatever reason. It's like living with impossible to predict weather. Sometimes it's all good and dandy, you might not even see it. But sometimes it rains. And sometimes it thunders, and when that happens more than one person can be struck because depression affects more than just the person that has it, that's why it's so hard to deal with it. It's not just sadness and mood swings. Large parts of depression have to do with guilt that can both cause and be caused by depression. Guilt is the perpetuating factor that traps people in a cycle.

Kakeru isn't always sympathetic because of his depression. The guilt he feels over his mother's death is what keeps him from moving on with his life. It keeps him from feeling he's worth it, and his inability to change that, to overcome it and do better by himself and others he feels he is letting down, is what creates the sense of guilt that keeps him trapped in a cycle of grief and regret. The pain caused by that causes him to act out, and that just feeds the guilt, thereby feeding his depression.

Put simply, depression is a motherfucker. It is very, very hard to talk about, let alone deal with it and overcome in it a healthy process. People's inability to deal with depression is what leads to a need for some form of sedation. Whether that's distraction or simply a desire to be numb to it is what causes unhealthy habits like eating and/or drinking in excess, inflicting self-induced pain, drug abuse and so and so forth. Sometimes that isn't enough, and people feel they have no option but to take their own life.

Orange hasn't given us a perfect representation of depression, but I admire that the point isn't always to make us feel sorry for Kakeru. Hurt people hurt people, and this episode is a very good example of that. So long Kakeru is hurting, he'll hurt others, often times inadvertently I'm sure, but he won't always be sympathetic, because it just isn't like that in real life.

Sorry for getting on my soap box there, but if there's one thing I hope people are left with at the conclusion of this series, it's a desire to learn more and take a good look at one's self (a lot of people don't realise they're actually depressed) and those around them.

Well yeah, can't argue with that one. It's just because it's almost reach the end of the series and I'm curious about what will happen in the future if Kakeru really get saved. Is he still keep contact with the gang, living with his grandma? Or maybe he'll travel into nowhere in search for his own "Naho"?

She is aware of the fight, but was it ever mentioned what the fight was about? I didn't hear them talk about the cause. I'm thinking she overthought the event because in the letter it said they visited Kakeru's grandmother. This made her say the stupid thing, at the time, that she'll be okay. Maybe, just maybe, she should have been sympathetic about Kakeru's feelings (hold him, care about how he feels, etc.) instead of patronizing him.

I don't know how true to life the Japanese culture is portrayed in anime, but sometimes all this just gets in the way of having healthy adults.
What if the Hokey Pokey is what it is all about?

This was a hella good episode! The last two or so have been a bit underwhelming for me but I liked this one. Good combo of drama (from Kakeru's tense outbreak about his guilt and Naho's worries about Kakeru's death being her fault) and lols from Hagita tryna win those compliments.. "I'm wearing a scarf too" :')

Suwa is so nice though! I feel bad for him. But I hope that after all the drama and letters and build up the gang are able to save Kakeru.

Am I the only one wishing that Suwa and Co. should have left him alone from the beginning and ignored him. I don't know whether they are friends with Kakeru by choice or responsibility in this timeline.

This ep proves that Naho doesn't understand Kakeru and it may be a rehash of Kokoro Connect, as in false love of not understanding each other.

I couldn't care less about Kakeru and his 'pity me' self. Its frustrating to watch good and interesting characters(excluding Naho) waste their breadth, interactions and episodic moments on 'saving' a worthless, uncaring character. This show probably would be better off as a no-romance SOL about friends and their group dynamics. Its like what if Shinji from NGE intruded upon group of close friends and wrecked the whole show for me.

There was absolutely no reason for Naho to force the issue like that on Kakeru. I don't see why she had to be so dead set on making him stay, or didn't even think to accompany him to his grandmother. Sure, she knows his grandmother is fine 10 years from now, but she should also realize Kakeru does not have that certainty and it's not strange for him to worry about these things.

I don't really like it when illogical decisions like that are used to advance the story.

Or maybe she just grew to like Suwa. It's been 10yrs guys and they been together for so long before they even had the baby. Like you guys are just judging by these short clips, we really don't see there marriage, how there relationship progress, how they been together for so long, there dynamics, etc.
No, I'll not be asking for that anymore since yesterday. Now the new question in my mind is what will Kakeru do if he safe until next ten years? What will happen to him? Is he still in contact with the gang? Or he'll left in search for his own Naho?

So many people angry at Naho, but nothing she said to encourage him could possibly help the guy. Suicidal and depressed people are like: nothing you say will matter in the end as they will turn everything on the head to persuade themselves that they are in the right. Heck, trying to show them kindness usually results in them rejecting it and looking for a reason to see you as in the wrong.
Even if she offered to come with him, you can bet your hand and leg that he would make up a reason to stop her.

And poor Suwa, always sacrificing himself for others, even though he even got the photos of his happy future life.

I don't want to sound mean or anything but seriously Naho, all you needed to say was, "It's alright Kakeru, we'll go see your grandmother together. You'll never be alone." or something along those lines. How can you screw something up when it's supposed to be simple?! And Kakeru, oh boy! I got something to say about Kakeru as well, but the guy's going through some serious depression so I'll shut up for now.

Why did Naho have to screw everything up again? Instead of doing exactly what the letter told her not to do she could just have, oh I don't know, REQUESTED TO GO WITH HIM, but oh no, that would've been way too logical!

Kakeru needs to stop being such a fuckboy, I get that he's depressed but that's in no way an excuse for being an overdramatic basic bitch and throwing away a perfectly well functioning phone, the "Ignore call" option exists for a reason you know.

What the hell is this show. It's become such a mess that it's painful to watch.

Naho has had no character development whatsoever, she is really pissing me off. It was so obvious that she was gonna fuck up again, saw it coming from miles away. Her and Kakeru have absolutely no chemistry together, they're both so damn dense that it makes me uncomfortable.

Honestly I don't even know why Suwa bothers with Naho anymore. The guy deserves better.

Just watching Naho and Kakeru interact makes me think there is no way in hell their relationship would work out in the future. If it requires their entire group of friends to keep the relationship afloat, then it was just doomed to begin with. I'm starting to think that even if they manage to keep Kakeru from killing himself, Naho and Suwa will still end up together.

With how the characters are being portrayed, at this point I feel like the only good couple to ship is Suwa x Kakeru. I mean seriously, Naho is too damn dense, her and Kakeru seem to always run into trouble with each other and would probably do for all the future, and Suwa is always there to help them because he knows Kakeru the best.

Seriously, Suwa x Kakeru, that would work better way better than Naho x Kakeru.
