To actually connect a fictional game to the real world through practical concepts of magic, the author couldn't have impressed me enough. :D

So to speak, the Elder Tale itself is an actual universe where its "god" are the game developers of our world. We are introduced with three phases (three times the World Fraction was used) of how the game has evolved. The first one is the development of the game concepts including both the initial history of the game and the introduction of demi-humans or monsters. This shows that world-class magic was able to affect the whole universe of Elder Tale or the game itself. Moreover, the second phase or the second time the world fraction was used indicated that it was possible for world-class magic to interact with people of a higher dimension (players) as they are able to control their characters (adventurers) in a lower dimension (the game) and actually affect that world. However, the shocking thing that is revealed is in the third phase itself (the third time the World Fraction is used, or what they call the Apocalypse). Ignoring the laws of physics of our universe or dimension, it is shown that it was possible for world-class magic not only to affect the game itself, not only for players from the higher dimension to affect the Elder Tale universe, but also to affect our universe itself (absorbing the consciousness of the actual players into game). This is a very interesting thing and how I wished that it is actually possible.

Anyway, to be called an archmage (dai majutsushi) if Shiroe had been playing Elder Tale for more than 9 years is... Hehehe, well I suppose that's awesome. :D

I couldnt agree more.
The is ingeniusly describing the development of a computer MMORPG game from the perspective of the characters in the game universe. It's a great way of story telling for non-gamers to get introduced to a game world.

Its because the game lore is that this world was essentially OUR WORLD. (See how Regan mentions a Time more glorious than the one where the 4 races lived together?) See all of the rusted cars and Modern skyscrapers in Akiba?

Still, I think your "fictional world" idea is just another conception of a parallel world to be honest.

I dont think it's a parallel world, but I do agree it feels like the fictional Elder Tales world is set in a futuristic world that has reverted / returns back to nature.

ie collapse of our advanced civilisation leading to return to medieval type world, with magic

It feels more like the player's real world consciousness ie "psyche" has merged with their in game avatar bodies.

It's likely they are not physically in the game world but experiencing the physical awareness of the game world as their real consciousness.

Does anyone else think there is a link to why the in game portal system doesnt seem to work? I have a feeling it's related to the "magic" that brought them into the Elder Tales game world and will probably relate to their ability to return to the real world.

Losing your memories as penalty for dying is quite terrifying especially in their circumstances. Even if they abstain from fighting, the only fate that awaits them is a lifetime of boredom without any purpose.

Maybe they should keep diaries and share as much information about themselves to other people although I guess that would be pointless since what makes memories important is the feelings attached to them. Even if they knew that piece of memory, the significance would be lost on them.

Wow, that was a lot of new information to take in about the history of the game. Funny how Akatsuki stood around and didn't understand a thing when the history of the game was being explained xD

Losing memory as a consequence of death sounds very interesting.
I'm glad Minori spoke up at the end there, too.
Cannot wait for the next one :o

Wow! I'm impressed, I didn't expect that kind of writing in such a serie. If only the characters were a bit less childish, it could be an excellent show.

It's still good, and I don't regret strating it.

Well now I wonder, how many people in Susukino have complete amnesia now. No, not only in Susukino but everyone outside of Akiba. I wonder if someone else, maybe a knowledgeable person like Regan, have provided them with the same info.

And it just occured to me, what happens if there's no cathedral for the anima to revive in? And now I wonder if the cathedral can be bought. Okay that's scary O_O

Interesting, great world building.
A few points.
1. They went from playing on PC's to using some kind of full body immersion similar to SAO in a matter of 8 years.
2. It appears that the person behind this has the goal of making every human character eventually forget that they are in a game in the process of dying and reviving gradually losing memories of the real world.

It's strange that no one every mentions the real world other then briefly up to this point. No one is concerned about their physical bodies and why they can't just be disconnected from the game by someone outside. It was explained in SAO, not in this.

And this is why I regard Mamare Touno as one of the undisputed reigning champs when it comes to world building. Anyone who's in to this kind of stuff will find themselves addicted. But for those who don't care they'll find themselves bored silly. Thankfully I'm one of the former though I can be pretty flexible. And good job to those who've noticed that little quirk of Rudies status bar. You'll love him even more come the next eps. Wanna know why? I'll leave you w/ this: Kamina level epic...

Oh, and a minor correction to the above post. They didn't go from desktop to full body immersion tech in 8 years. They were still playing it on a desktop PC before the apocalypse happened. They just up and vanished in front of the monitor.

they still use PC. you should read Log Horizon manga first ep
its sure not spoiler since they didnt add in anime

thing that most people still confused, LH is not about stucking in game machine but they got sucked in game world instead. its very difference
and about the bodies, its gone. that's the whole point of the story. its more hopeless because you dont even know how you get in here so finding the way out is even more impossible for now. it left more mystery. not like SAO where you know exactly what happen and all you have to do is clear the game. LH is a lot deeper.

Aha, so here it is--the episode that brings to light the importance of death as it relates to the real world. Even with a revival system, death is still scary. What's even worse is that the people don't know what is happening to them.

This show keeps getting better and better. Hopefully it doesn't end in disappointment like Maoyu did.

Interesting. Especially point number two. So whatever force within the game is trying to use the world fraction spell to integrate adventurers into the game to deal with the Curse of the Alvs.

Totally awestruck by how much better Log Horizon keeps on getting.

The level of backstory and strategy is simply amazing for the little things most anime don't pay attention to. I hope it stays awesome until the end <3

I'm glad there's a consequence to the "immortality" that the adventurers had. Much more interesting than SAO's setup (which did little to emphasis the psychological pressure of fatality compared to an anime like AoT), and seemingly just as dangerous.

Can't wait for the next episode. I'm going to have trouble concentrating on my studies in anticipation ;P

Welp, I managed to watch all currently aired 14 episodes of Log Horizon in one go because this anime was so good, way better than a certain other virtual reality mmorpg anime....

I really loved the explanation of psyche (=mind) and anima (=body) and that Spiritual Theory. NPCs that aren't really NPCs and a game with an actual history and a progressive timeline, guilds, dungeons, non-menu cooking and crafting skills, the sense of adventure, and that shocking reveal about dying! I just really love how deep this show gets.
Go ***k yourself.
