After everything these characters have been through, this was a nice epilogue-esque episode to finish things off with. Happiness in all sorts of forms is on the horizon for everyone, and we get some comedic moments to finish with some much-needed levity. And that flash-forward to Tohru and Kyo as grandparents was lovely, so richly-deserved for both of them. Absolutely beautiful finale.

In the end, this season served as a fantastic conclusion to the Fruits Basket story, to the romantic pairings, to the breaking of the curse and of course to all the character development throughout the season. My only complaint really would be that Akito gets off relatively light after all the evil deeds she committed throughout the show, but there was a clear theme of forgiveness in that storyline so I can respect the idea; hell, it came fairly close to making me accept that she deserves redemption after her confrontation with Tohru. I do at least appreciate the acknowledgement of the issue with Rin's admission that she can't forgive Akito and that she doesn't understand how everyone else seems to have been able to do so fairly easily.

And we are at the final episode. Parts of Chapter 134 and the entirety of Chapter 136 were adapted in this episode, covering the graduation of Tohru, Yuki, and Kyo from high school. A fair number of scenes had changes, were shortened, or removed from this episode. Now for the final time, here were changes I noticed with this episode:

-Kyo and Tohru’s date at the zoo had happened earlier before visiting Kyoko’s grave from later in Chapter 134.
-While the girls were playing with the cats, Kyo was sitting on a bench in the manga instead of sitting on the ground.
-The anime shortened Kyo’s narration recalling why Tohru was collecting his Juzu beads.
-Details on Yuki and Kakeru’s conversation about attending colleges:

  • Kakeru’s girlfriend, Komaki, was present during the conversation in the manga. Because her character got removed from the anime, this led to some of the lines in this scene to be changed and the scene being shortened.
  • One part of the scene lost as a result of the changes was that Ayame and Mine were revealed to be looking for a new apartment for Yuki and planning to make it over at the behest of the real estate agent showing them around.
  • The scene showing Machi arriving at Kakeru’s apartment to see him and Yuki originally took place a little later in Chapter 134 following another scene with Kyo and the girls. Like Yuki and Kakeru’s conversation, some content in the scene got changed for the anime due to Komaki no longer being present.

-Following Kyo getting flustered at Saki sensing he was thinking about her, there was a small scene removed from the anime where Kyo continued assuming she was reading his thoughts and Saki commenting that her level of spiritual power was different from his.
-When Tohru recalled Kyo crashing through the roof of her bedroom at Shigure’s house, there was a sunflower background used at that point in the manga meant to make mention of the scene come off as comical instead of reflective.
-Additional flashback scenes were added in the anime while Tohru was reflecting on her times with the Sohma family.
-For the anime, Machi’s bed is missing the Mogeta doll that Yuki got for her in the manga during their conversation.
-Isuzu’s rant about not forgiving Akito for the suffering she gave Tohru and the other Sohmas originally took place in Chapter 133 of the manga, being a bit longer and having some different lines. She originally said this while Tohru and Kyo were visiting her at Kazuma’s dojo. Originally in the manga, the scene was more lighter with Isuzu simply commenting that she was okay with being apart, while also admitting she’d be angry and sulking. This would lead to Haru teasing her as she felt embarrassed admitting this instead of comforting her as in the anime.
-Due to the change in Isuzu’s dialogue for the anime, this changed the subject of Kazuma and Saki’s conversation upon observing Saki, Haru, and Momiji as Saki and Kazuma commented on some of the former cursed Sohma still recovering from the pains of their pasts in the anime. Their conversation was longer in the manga, with both commenting on the joyful mood and Kunimitsu expressing shock about Saki now living at the dojo, before Saki’s intimidating aura leads him to back off.
-The flashbacks that Kazuma, Saki, Kureno, Arisa, Shigure, and Akito had with their times with Tohru were removed from the anime.

What’s the problem? It goes to show how they truly stayed together and grow old together still having so much love for each other. I think it’s a beautiful conclusion.

Incredible ending to a masterful show. This is what I'm hoping for everytime I start a new seasonal anime. Been following this show since the it started airing in Spring 2019 and could've never imagined it was going to become something so special. 10/10

I wonder what it could have been if they followed the manga faithfully. Also I wanted to see the final fate of Ren Sohma.

By the way, my mind has blanked out, so let's just say I feel so satisfied that I feel empty. Someone save me cause exams knocking on the door.

A 10/10 at least so that the average score of the entire series is a 9/10. Masterpiece or not. Flawed or not. Thanks for shaking me up. And goodbye.

I cried way too much with that ending. Can’t believe it’s over, I feel empty but at the same time grateful because I saw such a beautiful and heartwarming story having a beautiful ending. The fact that Tohru and Kyou stayed together and loving each other for so long after they both suffered so much brings tears of joy to my eyes.

Pretty much everyone got someone in the end huh? It helps give the series a happy ending, but I’d be lying if it didn’t come across as excessive. Yuki’s moment with Tohru was great though. A lot was built up for that conclusion.

Overall this was a great season that could have been even better if it took its time more. The pace was just a little too fast from episodes 1 - 12 and it made the emotional moments hit not as hard as they should have while also overwhelming you with a cascade of those moments.

If it had 17 episodes or so I might have given it a high 9/10. But at this point it is going to have to “settle” for an 8/10 that is closer to a 9 than a 7.

Well, its over.

Honestly, i'm disappointed with the final season. I could understand if the pacing wasn't so chaotic but this anime NEEDS 2-cours like the first 2 seasons, the slow pacing is very important for Fruits Basket, it failed here for being a single cour. Other thing I dislike was Akito's mom, Ren. Obviously, the anime needs to victimize Akito after everything she has done with a new and poorly written antagonist which only purpose is being a bitch to almost everyone in every scene. Due to pacing issues, Akito being suddenly friendly to Tohru is rushed, stupid and forced, the rest of subplots were forcibly concluded and the new side characters introduced in season 2 look like a joke here. The final season has so many disjointed scenes, again due to the chaotic pacing, the most obvious example is Machi and Yuki confession.

Akito is a criminal and she doesn't deserve our pity and much less love. 4/10 for the anime

Season 1: 7/10
Season 2: 7/10
Season 3: 4/10

I am literally so sad that you are at the top of this forum thread as one of the first commenters. Especially considering Furuba is now the top ranked anime of all time, and you gave it a FOUR out of ten.
PHEW - I guess we are all entitled to our own opinions, but as someone that has loved this story for a decade, this adaptation was nearly perfect and this story will go down in anime history as one of the best if not the best romance anime of all time. Sorry you didn't enjoy it.

And to watch Furuba again. But I will never forget you and I will always remember you. Really I have been very selfish. Well I finally know how the story ended after all these years. It was a nice finale, but I was expecting more emotion and the fact that you never got to see the send-off kinda feels hollow. Nevertheless, at least our cast of characters now have their happy ending. Akito still needs some form of punishment but that's just me. I wonder what happened to Akito's mother? She just kinda got taken out for the last half of this. Oh well. Truly a timeless classic. 8/10

I am not ashamed to say, that Fruits Basket, The Final Season, has turned out to be one of the best anime i've ever seen.

What this season presented to us viewers, was something that moved every kinds of mountains in my honest opinion. And it made me completely emotional and quite attached to the story and its characters in a way that i didn't feel for quite a long time now i must say. The season that tied all the loose ends and had several characters going through an immense character development that was just flawless to follow. I mean, i could be here all night prasing the shit out of this season that you can't even imagine XD I'll just say that it was an absolute wonderful experience, the OST was fire and the story, it surprised me A LOT, because i wasn't expecting some as powerful as THIS. I just wanted to point out my favorite part of this show that i still remember vividly even today: Kyou's vent to Tohru. My god, that whole episode, i felt it, SO MUCH, i just couldn't belive i was actually seeing a whole episode dedicated to a character speaking out his inner locked feelings and regrets that were accumulating inside him for all his life. That shit, was powerful, i mean it, i won't forget that whole moment for a long time to come.

Last but not least, i wanted to mention Akito, she was a fucking snake all along, but after this season, i just can't hate her anymore, and her redemption, was absolutely beautiful. I mean, i still don't sympathize with her, but like i said, can't hate her anymore. And the ending, was flawless, just like i was expecting ^^

8/10 1st season, 9/10 for the 2nd, 10/10 for this one. An anime that gradually became better with time until it completely exploded at the end. Thank you Fruits Basket, you will be missed!!

I can't believe this is the last episode ;-; I will miss this show dearly. What a beautiful ending just to know that everyone got happy together ;w; <3 Furuba had been a sweet emotional ride and it became another favourite series for mine =^w^= Maybe I'll start reading the manga soon.

I would love to see a continuation of their kids frequenting the same school as their parents. At least we got a glimpse of their son at the end which is the exact copy of Kyo >w>

And here it is, the end. It's been a long three years. Everyone gets together in the end, and for the most part, things are tied up nicely. I am a little disappointed about how we didn't see more of how Akito is living after all the horrible things she's done. What can she do to change and make a positive difference? I really wanted to see that, but we really didn't get much of a payoff. Same with much of the other couples. It's obvious they all got together, but it would've been nice to see how they live years later. What happened to Akito's mother? What about Kyou's father? Was there any chance to attempt to reconcile later on? This whole terrible parents thing was a constant theme, and I would've liked to see some closure to all of that.

It was nice to see Yuki and Machi. Yuki really deserved happiness, and he got it. Also, his scene with Tohru was really nice and a great way to wrap up their journey together. Yuki's feelings were always so conflicted when it came to Tohru, but he was able to understand his feelings here and finally tell Tohru how he felt. A motherly love that he had never really experienced before. Very, very nice.

The massive timeskip threw me off. I'm just glad we didn't have to directly see them as old people. Wished we got to see them as parents, that would've been nice. Especially since this show has some of the worst parents I've ever seen.

Overall, I think this was a great series, but not a masterpiece. I think the Akito thing was tied up way too quick and easily. It built it up for so long for it to ultimately be underwhelming. And then couple it with what I said previously, not seeing how she lives her life later. How is she rectifying her past mistakes, etc.

The other issue with this show is what I like to call "sadness porn". It's like some characters in this show are so twisted and cruel it's comical, and they're just not all that believable.

When I first started this series, I knew I wasn't exactly in FB's target demographic. But I'm glad I took this journey. This was a story of love, forgiveness, understanding, and compassion. The Soma's are free from their cages, free to love and be with whoever they want. Tohru showed them compassion and understanding, which allowed them to learn forgiveness. That includes self-forgiveness, because there was a lot of self hatred here too.

I have to shout out Tohru, she was a ray of sunshine is an otherwise dark world. Her kindness, purity, and warmth was the heart and soul of this series.

All good things must come to an end. A painful lesson, but I am glad I experienced this. Thank you Tohru, Kyou, Yuki, and everyone else.

Yeah I really don't understand the trivialization of what Akito and her enablers did, attempted murder. Well she was forced to dress like a boy...see if that holds up in court. And the "well she broke the curse" doesn't work either because it's revealed it was all just a big misunderstanding anyway. Really? People's lives were ruined, for generations and it's all just waved away as a big misunderstanding. Not only that but Tohru saved the Somas but her own family are still a-holes, why doesn't her magic "I'll love you even if you try to kill me" work on them? What happened to her incompetent grandfather? If he could take care of her like he should have none of this would have happened anyway.

The end of an era. What an amazing journey it was. I loved this finale//epilogue type episode. I absolutely loved Yuki's character arc so him finally speaking with Tohru about his feelings was all I could ask for. A real tear jerker moment. Despite how this season had a faster pace and a few of the episodes felt rushed, they still really stuck the landing. I'm gonna miss this.

I stuck with it to the end, but I definitely should have dropped somewhere in the second season. I don't think I enjoyed any of the developments from that point. The connection never really justified why they accepted so much abuse and bull. The curse never really justified itself as a curse. Problems were repeatedly caused by shitty parents.

I feel a strong kinship with Isuzu this episode. Am I wrong for not liking this? Am I wrong for being more angry at Akito than happy for Tohru? Am I wrong for being bothered by this odd message to forgive abuse and not report manslaughter to the police? Am I wrong for wondering why Akito is a girl kept getting revealed like it changed anything? Am I wrong to think the wide array of characters stunted the main cast's development? Am I wrong to quirk an eyebrow at all the large age gaps in the relationships? There's a lot here killing my ability to enjoy the romance.

Fruits Basket The Final Episode 13

What can I even say about that.. that was the perfect ending. And has set the bar for all film and writing endings I will encounter in the future.

Then I will point out what I loved about it

I love how the characters spoke for the audience as well, that they are sad about the ending but happy they gotten something out of it.

Everybody was given their appropriate endings albeit some still unable to forgive and that's okay, Fruits Basket is telling us that if you're unable to forgive someone who has done horrible things to you— you shouldn't be forced to just make peace with it, you have your own level of experiences and your feelings are valid for feeling the way you do.

Another valuable thing is when you're put in a situation where it's almost impossible to be hopeful.. giving up is not the only option you have left; Find the right people. Find kindness.

For the show, that's Tohru Honda. She came as the warmth and kindness when they needed it most— in a sense it's unrealistic, a single ordinary person bettering the lives of many while dealing with her own demons. But given the context of the story it is also realistic, Tohru is an outsider, the only onigiri in a picnic basket of fruits, as others viewed the Soma clan as untouchable. Tohru saw them as people, raised them into people, and turned them into people. She has always been the mother of the house since the very beginning.

After finally receiving affection they've been starved of.. some had to calculate how to feel about such.. about Tohru. The comfort, happiness, and warmth they felt, was it romantic? For some yes, but I love that the characters explored their own emotions and came up with their own ways of loving her.. when they show could've easily been a harem. But it's not and thank Takaya-sensei for that, cause I would have not been a fan of this show if it went that direction haha

This scene, Tohru greeting Yuki his final "Welcome home" was everything to Yuki. And he looked at her with the warmest smile he has ever put on his face, he was about to pour out all his gratefulness towards the person that nurtured him into the brave man he is. The viewers couldn't be happier for him.

Fruits Basket has set the bar for Shoujo anime today. And I wish more would be interested in this, unfortunately we're in an anime era that's predominantly Shounen— but this show came to me when I needed it most, and I can only wish others will find this gem in their own time. Because man.. this show is something special.

Fruits Basket was one of the first shows that really got me into this hobby. So I watched the original before the re-make was even a thing. So when I heard they were re-making it was a dream come true. Being able to watch this again and feel so many emotions because eventually everything comes to an end.

I truly enjoyed this series more than I could ever imagine and the studio that made this series possible did not fail to meet my expectations. It is heartbreaking to see this beautiful show end and I am happy to see everyone live their best life.

Thank you Fruits Basket for showing me that no matter how hard life is, happiness is always around the corner.

What an ending to a great masterpiece, i legit started crying when Yuki was giving thanks to Tohru from everyone. We get to see everyone go off on there own new journey ahead and I especially loved the part when Uotani was talking to Kureno as well as Machi and Yuki together :3 It breaks my heart that such a wonderful anime has ended and I will be sad.

I also learned quite a bit from watching Fruit Basket since some of the episodes really teaches you about life. I know this will be something cringy some would say but No matter how hard life is at the moment there will always be something worth waiting at the end.

I guess I won't be watching anime anytime soon. Fruits Basket is an amazing anime. The animation, all the five openings and endings and the voice acting, I loved every second of it. It's been hours since I watched the final episode and I'm still feeling a little empty inside. I try to avoid shows with the romance tag (since I'm not a fan of it) but I somehow knew that Fruits basket will be good and it surpassed my expectations. I tip my wine glass towards you, Fruits Basket.

What a ride, and what a journey. I never thought this season would blow the previous two seasons away, but here we are now, with Furuba S3 cementing itself as one of the best anime of this year.

I'm not generally a fan of shoujo, but when the studio gets everything right, man does it become super enjoyable. This has cemented itself as my all-time favorite shoujo series, just slightly ahead of Banana Fish. We should all be giving props to TMS for going all-out on this show.

This is one of the few rare series that has made me cry, and it therefore deserves to get a 10/10 rating from me. Fully deserving.

I don't even know how to start this comment... Wow.

I was just thinking "do NOT end the show without Yuki telling Tohru what he feels about her!"... And then we got that beautiful scene. I'm not gonna lie, I was at the verge of tears during the whole episode and that scene broke me. Tears couldn't stop flowing.

And then again, when they addressed Tohru and Kyo as "grandparents", omg! I wasn't expecting that, that made me cry even harder!

I really am SO glad that everybody got their happy ending. Maybe a bit unrealistic but I don't care, cause everybody deserved it.
On the whole Akito thing... I still am with Isuzu, I just can't "forgive and forget" everything that she has done just like that. I do get that she was a victim herself, but still... What she has done would take years and a lot of effort to make peace with.

What an amazing journey. It really was a rollercoaster of emotion, this show.
I can't believe it's over. I started watching seasonals in 2019, the year the first season came out, so next Spring season will feel strange without Fruits Basket.
Although I'm reading there's an OVA or movie coming out next year?? I'm so happy about that!! :D

Oh, also, this is the #1 rated show now?... That's probably going to change soon, though. Because of rating balancing out and also, most likely and unfortunately, because of toxic fans who can't accept something being rated higher than their favorite anime.

i will never forget this series , truly a masterpiece shoujo anime.... the last part get me confused at first but after her mentioning tohru and kyou as a grand mother/father, i realize the time skip is very far away in the future lol , something that make me disgrace in this final season is....why they cannot showing us more relationship betwen all the couple in this series , at least i want to see the future of every zodiac member

Im glad everyone got their happy ending! needs more Momiji tho, we need to see his girl.

It's the most ideal ending for everyone, but again, too flowery for my taste tho, im also quite dissapointed with Akito's redemption... it's just... that's it? but ah well 8/10 still, a great series.
