It was fine cause I like Kotoko, but for the first arc to be three episodes but the second to be nine episodes is just weird. And the 2-3 year time skip, lame. So now all I need is a good amputee tag dojinshi with Inagawa.

One of the main reason why I watch this show is just to listen to
Miyano Mamoru (Light from Death Note for the unaware).

His voice is just captivating. oh and that ED song is just... <3

I like the romance and dialogue between Iwanaga and Kuro. Doesn't fell that rushed. They are both straight to the point and not embarrassed much.

7/10.

Kotoko looks like 10 yrs old while Kuro hold her lol

It's good to see that Kuro have feelings for Kotoko too. That's what I like in this anime, the romance between them ❤️ but the case are only few and Nanase is too long so it got boring, very heavy dialogue.. I hope next season, it will be one case per episode.

4/10 overall. Production value was ok but I just didn't find it entertaining. Main guy was drab. Main girl was kind of a nerd. Saki-san was sexy, should've had more fanservice from her. She was drab though.

Way too much dialogue and monologues in this show. And the pace was glacial. One case in 12 episodes?

In the nicest way possible: I wouldn't have missed anything if I had chosen not to watch this anime.

I don't regret watching it, I just put the expectation of more into the wrong one - it had potential to be so much more.

My stubbornness and both the OP & ED made me reach the finishing line.

This is why I wait until a season is complete before watching an Anime. I'm sure if I had watched it from week to week I'd have been annoyed with it's super slow pacing. But since I binge watch it doesn't really bother me.

Everything up until the steel lady arc was great. Korou and Kotoko proved to be a killer dynamic. They are so fun to watch interact that the story doesn't really matter. I say that because I found the steel lady arc to be quite boring. It just dragged for too long and never got any emotional investment from me. If not for Korou/Kotoko, this Anime would have came very close to being dropped.

Overall I rate a 7/10. Before the lady steel arc it was a 9. During the arc it was a 6. The last episode put a big ol' smile on my face and gave me that warm sensation I get like drinking a cup of cocoa on a cold winters day. Kotoko Iwanaga is officially on my top 10 all time favorite female characters list. I'd down to see a 2nd season.

I still give this an 8 out of 10 because I was entertained by the witty writing and Kotoko as a character. I loved her dry wit.

But that said all the criticisms about the story being dragged out are vaild and that hurts my score for this.

Still worthy of going on my blu ray shelf.

What a peculiar anime, and I don't mean that in a possitive way, it feels derivative, outdated and outclassed by previous anime despite being new, also it was so boring. The interactions between the leads was somewhat fun in earlier episodes but beyond that, there was nothing.

Overall, didn't like it much. The real mystery is never uncovered Kotoko simply comes up with theories that would satisfy the curiosity of those involved. Not to mention Kotoko was the worst girl this season, I'm definitely not pleased with Kurou loving her back.

Loved the second half of this episode so much, Kuro x Iwanaga.

Series was pretty unique, overall enjoyable with really good character design, though felt a little stale towards the end. Whoever looks like Nanase in real life now will probably get harassed if someone who's present during this whole discussion on the web saw someone like that.. this whole lie will get someone in trouble for sure which is why I am not particularly fond of it.

Still gonna read the manga though, hopefully I won't get drown out by the excessive dialogues.

Lol Kotoko made a dirty joke

Cute interactions between Kuro and Kotoko this episode.

I guess that's the end. I came in with decently high expectations and after seeing the first episode I thought this would be a pretty good watch. Unfortunately, I was unimpressed. This went from being a shounen-esque series to an overdone mystery starting at the second episode. Seriously, judging from what happened in the first episode, I was expecting something of a totally different scale. Instead it turned out to be a series that crammed in as much dialogue per episode as possible. There's a limit to how much dialogue works, and this anime far exceeded those limits.

Moreover, what's with it taking a full 20 minute episode to explain one "solution"? Just when I thought this anime was going poorly it got even worse because of how drawn out the final episodes were. Everything here could've been easily condensed.

It didn't meet my expectations. 3/10.

Honestly, the best part of this show is Kotoko and Kuro's relationship, and while the main mystery was fine, I just wish they showed a little more. Then again, a part of why the relationship is so good is that they sprinkle it over the mystery.

Saki, not gonna get angrier that the walking dead killed your senpai? Then again, can't exactly do much to an immortal who isn't afraid to off-themselves to see a perfect future... or the fact, you'd have to immerse yourself deeper into that world that you're completely and utterly afraid of.

Apart from that, got a little bored of steel-beam girl, but her origin was a good point, and the final battle of Kuro Vs Steel Beam, Kotoko Vs Internet/Rika was pretty unique. At least in this setting.

7/10 for me. Kotoko is enough for 4, their relationship for 2, and the mystery for another 1.
"You know you've reached peak quality when a doujin is better than the actual source series." (Eg. To LOVE-Ru)

Just to list a couple of biases.
Likes: A good story, characters, writing, romance, a good plot twist or something that breaks expectations (In a good way), 'backstory' and justice.
Dislikes: Bad romance, too much fanservice, the harem genre, yuri, yaoi, and bad writing.

I agree with what everyone is saying here. This arc was WAY longer than it needed to be and was honestly kind of a struggle to get through. It was SO mind-numbing at certain points. The dynamic between Kotoko and Kuro really does carry the show though, and is the sole reason I stayed on board.

This show was quite underwhelming. Surprisingly it started out interesting but fell apart very quickly. There was little to no development of the main character or any real insight in their past. Rather there were just bits and pieces. The main character Kuro was boringly bland except for his immortality. Iwanaga was somewhat fun to watch.

The pacing was also a major issue especially with the Steel Lady Nanase arc. And it's not like the arc was engaging either. It felt stupid too. Like how can Rikka bring people's imagination into reality?

I don't like how the anime was put together. I think the 12 episodes were too short and the Steel Lady arc was kinda boring. The only fun I had watching it was Iwanga because she was funny and interesting. But whatever, I enjoyed it I guess

I've always loved the mystery genre, even more so when the supernatural are involved so I enjoyed this.

The Nanase arc dragged on a little too long and I would have liked to see more cases being solved though.

But I appreciate the unique elements of this series; never quite seen a heroine like Kotoko. Normally clingy, jealous girls annoy me but it's always played for laughs with her so I was more amused than annoyed. xD

And did anyone find it SUPER RARE that every character was at least 19 years old and up? Adults dealing with adult problems in a youkai show....how often does this happen?

Those 3+ episodes they spent sitting in the car could have been condensed into 1. By the time she got to her last theory, I couldn't bring myself to care anymore, just wanted it to end. Thought this was a solid series until that point. Quite disappointed.

Damn Kuro, that was a really smooth line there at the end

Quite the dialogue heavy series, a lot of interesting conversations but also some that felt a bit too stretched and unnessary. The Nanase case felt a bit too long tbh considering we literally see Kuro getting the shit beaten out of him while Kotoko and Saki just sit in the car arguing with internet strangers for multiple episodes, which could have been reduce to fewer episodes imo. However I'm glad they didn't speedrun through the case as that would be worse than dragging it out. Overall pretty good anime in the way it feels pretty unique compared to other anime

Its an okay series. Its interesting at the start but it dragged too much on the Steel Angel Nanase arc. I really don't find any of the characters likable, but they're okay. Not even dull. Kotoko maybe cute and smart, but her jealousy annoys me.

The end? Okay, idk if thats the truth. Since somehow the source material can not be done lately, so i guess this show right fotlr promoting that resource, eh?

Overall, this is an interesting show with a unique story linking world of soul, monster, human, god, and so on, in one universe. Obviously not my best, but can not be my bad either. The reason was easy, love the Kotoko characteristic being a legal loli with so much cute scenes with Kurou in the end. Just it, besiding every lame aspect happened in the Queen of steel Nanase arcs previously.

Sadly, with the nicest contributions aparts, their stories progression were poor, and i can say it so lack of power to control all the good moments. Their lacking keep continue until its very last. Fortunately, the end at my honest point, was an okay attempt, referring all of the problem finished, Rikka problem still going on, and Saki san feel was over. And ofc the happy ending with the relationship between Kotoko and Kurou. Whatever happen in the time skip, i can understand a little.

With that reason, and with my respect of the nice sound track in the opening, once again, 8 scores out of 10 to the over all, must be enough to keep this show alive until its real finished in the resource material. Yet, maybe im too over rated on this. However, my minds are still clear. 'Very good' statement was more than highly acceptable, rather deny myself to not liking the heroine characterization and Saki san memorable scenes pointing. Thats all i can say.

Moving out.

Did not expect this at all and I'm very pleased to say that almost after 8 years I actually found an anime that at least for me felt that it had a close resemblance to my most favourite anime being: Gosick.

From setting to pacing, characters to plot, they all had a nice connection with each other, parts remained a mystery for the viewer to either make up themselves or might find out in a future sequel as there's enough room to continue the story but the viewer also gotten enough closure for it being this single season.

Got to say that I really liked the cases and while it mostly focused on the latter part the introduction and development was kept into check without need of further information to make sure the viewer got the information they needed to tell the story they wanted.

So yea you can really say I enjoyed this anime very much, and like Gosick would love to see a sequel as I am sure even that would be great to see!

All in all it was a great watch and I really enjoyed marathoning this series!

While this series starts out resembling Hyouka (quickly evolving to be more like Kamisama no Memochou and Gosick), the ending stretch (which is like 50% of the runtime) curiously introduces some Kaze no Stigma vibes of all things... which I can't say improved anything in this instance.

While the central relationship is amusing the only real takeaway I have from the show as a whole is its somewhat uncommon stance regarding lies vs. truth: Mystery series generally concern themselves with revealing the truth, while this rather emphatically seeks to do the very opposite.

Ultimately I'm not sure what audience this show was supposed to reach, as it slips and slides through all sorts of different genres and foci over the course of its 12 episodes; the only real constant is the fondness for expository/explanatory dialog. It's a 'godly strategist MC' show in 'moe detective/mystery' clothing that only gets to fully show off its protagonist's skill in the second-to-last episode.

I can't even recommend it to fans of Death Note or UN-GO because of the moe romantic comedy aspects and fact the mind games show up so late.... Maybe fans of Kyoukai no Kanata?

I didn't hate this anime but I didn't like it either. I don't mind heavy dialogue in an anime but when its overdone and unnecessary that's where the problem is, and that is what this anime did towards the end. At the beginning I had such high hope but as I kept on watching I became more and more disinterested.

If there is another season hopeful it won't be too dialogue heavy and boring.

The 4 solutions stuff... none of that would stick!
If some rando on the internet thinks 2+2=3, it's basically impossible to change his mind even with undeniable arguments much less with a bunch of far-fetched assumptions...
I don't mind heavy dialogue but a bit more action would be appreciated.

That said I like the ideas and aesthetic of this show and would binge another season if there was one.
I think I don't know wtf I'm doing. Maybe. Probably.

It has a very strong start. I literally got hyped up after watching the first 2 episodes BUT after the rest, it' now only a meh for me. The problem of this anime is the pacing of the story. I like the super brainy problem solving mystery of it, but it turns out too much especially for eps 8-11. I just wish there's more to it other than pure mind playing. Also, they didn't make a full BG on Kotoko especially about on her parents.

Well, the important thing thing is it's entertaining till the end. I'll give it an 8/10 rate. I heard there will be a 2nd season of this somewhere on 2021. I'll watch it when it comes out ^_^

So a solid show. The animation is good IMO. I will say this is the most western anime I have seen. What I mean is that how the showed played out including the ending is just like that of any detective show you would see on NBC, Fox, or CBS. Didn’t really expect a happy ending even though they have the thought of doom hanging over. Was half expecting Iwanaga to get shot at the end, but was nice seeing them be a couple which is something we weren’t not 100% sold on the entire time. Am excited to see there is another season coming out which honestly surprises me considering how many other shows that view better don’t. Not saying this is bad.

Overall, anime was quite interesting in many things.. I think majority of the time anime played around such things as rrats (narratives), basically.. If you like rrats - this anime is for you.. ;P And there aren't that many anime series that play around the culture of rrats, I personally don't know many like this..
There is also Kuro's past, and how he handles his emotions, and Rikka as well.. So interesting in their own characters, dealing with their own issues.. There is romance, both with Saki and Kotoko.. There are youkai, spirits theme as well, if you're into that.. Well, as this is also quite a dreamy thingy sometimes, I feel.. I think anime was entertaining in these things it tried to do.. At first I wasn't sure, what the anime will be about.. But at the end of the day - it's rrats culture.. ;P Even in talk with the snake - we saw Kotoko creating rrats.. ;P And as there are otaku culture anime.. This is rrats culture anime.. ;P At least how it felt to me.. ;P Of course with some other things as well.. Overall - was unexpectedly enjoyable anime with not usual culture.. ;P

Just a breather episode after that long steel lady arc, which was genuinely needed. As for why Rikka did all of that.. immortality is a curse so I mean who would want to live with that, so she intends to return back being a human by continously deploying those powers to forsee future. Good enough reason I guess.

This being hugely dialogue-ridden didn't make it any less enjoyable for me, in fact it worked in the favour. I liked how engaging episodes were despite of near to no action and how immersive dialouges felt, for the most part. Though if one nag I had, it was how this season just covered a single major case and we couldn't get to the other cases, which in return didn't properly introduce Rikka as well. Though apart for that I liked the uniqueness this series had, been a good amount of time since I felt that.

So an 8/10 for me. Liked Kotoko and onto the second season now.

This had an interesting concept but I think this did not adapt well from the source material to an animated show.  It was incredibly boring to me with longwinded dialogue that was not interesting in the least.  It did not help that it was all not even a mystery where the protagonist was trying to solve something but make something up instead so it was just several episodes of bullcrap.  If the main pair was trying to solve the mystery of the death of the idol and the appearance of the ghost and coming up with theories as to that this could have played better.  The show had no interest in that though and the death is just left as a shrug of the shoulders, lame.

Motivation of the "villain" was lackluster as well.  She wants to be normal?  It looks like she and Kuro age normally though so why go through all this effort?  A Japanese thing maybe.  Creating this steel beam ghost doesn't get her to her plan of something to take away her immortality anyway, just some generic baddie.  Side character ex-girlfriend Saki was just annoying with her cringing from the ghosts and I never felt anything from her history with the main pair.  Only part of this show that was at all interesting was the standard love-com between the main pair in the end as the actual story was so damn boring that it had no interest from me, spent a lot of time skipping ahead hoping for something interesting to happen with no luck.

May leave this as a 5/10 but given how often my eyes felt like glazing over perhaps a 4/10 would be more accurate from me.
