Well then. I have no bloody idea what the hell just happened. This Nazi general dude who's basically a mish-mash of Hisoka, Dio Brando, Hyoubu Kyousuke and Light Yagami meets a mage who can see into the future and starts punching women because he has latent violent, psychopathic tendencies?? That's what I got from it anyway. Gotta love the cheesy, out of place music and the bizarre Shakespearean-esque dialogue. The way everyone talks reminds me of the early parts of JoJo lmao I mean, it's got my attention but just because I want to know what the heck the next episode is gonna be about. This was technically episode 0, so I guess it's like a prologue episode or something? Not the best introduction for people like myself who haven't played the VN. |

For those of you saying this doesn't make sense: 1) You're not crazy, 2) I encourage you not to give up just yet. This episode is a rushed adaptation of one of the VN's prequel short stories. The reason it doesn't make sense is because you're supposed to know who all of these characters are already, and even then it's rushed. I recommend giving the main story episodes a try once they come out. If you still hate it, I heartily recommend the VN: it's absolutely fantastic, and the first six chapters are free on Steam. Edit: And to those asking who the protagonist is, he's the scarf kid who makes a cameo at the start. |
Important Note: I no longer - in any way, shape, or form - consider myself a moral nihilist (even in my old, convoluted definition of the term). I very much do believe there is such a thing as objective good and evil. In addition, I apologize for any of the posts I've made that are rude, aggressive, or otherwise unbecoming. I've always striven to walk a path befitting a follower of Christ, and now recognize some of my old comments here as misguided if not outright wrong. If you happen upon them, pray do not let them darken your view of the God I serve. He is kind, even if I, at times, have not been. |

I think this episode seem to increse hype for upcoming TV series(weird that this hype effect didn't work right for MAL users). Sometime there are some weird animation is suprisingly and didn't miss my eye this time! This is a problem :D I am fully assuming that this will get fix in the actual series (or because of this is a crowdfonded show?) Personally I like this episode and those soundtracks and some good animation and that villain badassness sure had me pumped me up! Also this wasn't confusing ¯\_(γ)_/¯ On the other hand, I am worried that if this will eventually have decent visual novel adaptation within total of 25 episode? Might expect either first or last episode(or possibly the ONAs) to have a double length. |

Well, that was terrible. I'll give episode one a go since this is just a prequel, but it looks like this series won't be any good. |

Those long names, dang! The beginning looks good but then, the ending... I have no clue what is going on. I should have played the VN before watching it, I guess... |

Extremely confusing. Too many characters in one episode, the animation is not very good, but the soundtrack was ok |

What a mess that was, confusing and it made no sense. Add in some very clunky animation and its just sank any in interest I have in this series. It does not bode well for the main story. For all those who loved this episode, what exactly did you love? I feel I'm missing something here. |

Honestly If.... This has the same studio as Rewrite... like how they adapted in S1? Quite frustrated and So Off-putting.. Well the OST is pretty good actually probably they'll gonna save a bigger budget in the final fight --S I E G H E I L-- |

I don't know anything about the story so this episode was very confusing. Hope the main series will be more clear and give a proper introduction. Visually it wasn't so good, fighting scenes looked so cringe. I can't say I enjoyed it. 4/10 |

This is a side-story that you supposedly read when you have already read half of the novel. Most people who enjoyed probably have read the VN and know what's going on. So if it was confusing and a mess it's because this is not the best way to start the series if you don't know about it already. The project was funded by fans though, so it's not a surprise that episode 0 is better for fans, and new viewers should skip it until a later date. Snaita said: Hm, from the first minute I got the feeling this will spoil the rest of the show... I'm gonna skip it. And you, sir, are right. Please skip it until you get to know a bit the characters. :) I'll leave a proper explanation for those who are curious, trying to avoid as much spoilers as possible. Read at your own risk. About what's going on. Someone mentioned it already, but this is a prequel, the backstory of how the LDO (Longinus Dreizehn Orden, "the bad guys") met, and Reinhard awoke. When I say awoke, it's that he embraced his own "craving" - to destroy everything. And yes, it's not supposed to be a good thing. About "the guy who sees the future". As for "Karl Krafft", who is a really important character.... I'll just leave it that he doesn't see the future, because just as he says, "he knows everything". And I'm just gonna quote the subs because you shouldn't ignore such things and it's food for thought. "I remember discussing this with you here, in this place. I've met you in this way many times." |

Just terrible. Every german in this was genuine german, I've no idea what you're talking about |

Read the VN so I get it, but for anyone who hadn't this would be an unbelievably scattered episode (possibly to the point of watching it making your experience worse going forward). A lot of people are talking about the animation being bad, and I guess this goes with that, but wow the fight choreography is some of the worst I think I've ever seen in anime. If they can fix either the animation problems or the storytelling problems I'll probably give it a pass but I don't know if it will. On the plus side, music and voice acting was great. Seeing Reinhard come in and 1HKO Schreiber and Bey was also nice. Interested going forward in if the main series show (Episodes 1-11) will have different animation standards than the 7 special episodes. Also interested in what route they'll adapt (the obvious choice from the marketing would be Marie's, but it's really going to hurt the show to just throw you in right there. I'm still pessimistically hopeful it's Kasumi's). 6/10 |

Whenever i heard people talking about Dies Irae in the past it was nothing but praise, they hyped this even more than anything than came from the fate/series (even though it's writing went all over the place in later works, yet somehow gained much more succes) So i gave this a shot, expecting greatness... Oh boy did this disappoint, that first ep 0 felt almost like Akame ga kill tier of badness. |

While I'm interested, I'm not entirely sure as to what was going on. lol I think (?) I got the gist of it, though. Some (if not many) animation scenes looked pretty sub-par to say the least, and the characters so far are meh. I liked the music though (and there was one song I was familiar with, but I forgot the name. It was when long-haired blondie reawakened. Overall it was eh. I was wondering why this was labeled as episode 0 until I figured out that this was an OVA, so this makes the gripes I have towards this not really that surprising anymore. Maybe it'll be better when the actual TV series is aired. |

Nice! Easy first drop of the season. Being a VN reader must be like living in a garbage dump. Sure, every once in a while you manage to fish some (relatively) intact, decent-tasting food out of the pile, but in the end, you're still eating garbage. |

Honestly never knew that, but no wonder it felt like I've heard of this before as soon as this announced. Welp, now I just learned something important to me. If the first episode isn't any better to me, then I'll just drop it and read the VN since I really am interested in this. |

NGL this was actually terrible. Why is this set in the 3rd Reich again? 3 Valkyries??? Yeah because women definitely were the leading war forces under the Nazi Regime. This could be set in a fantasy parallel world, it could be an isekai, the setting is just there to appease a young, edgy, inexperienced audience. Another OP main character and dumb powers ResidentSleeper, wake me when there is a good VN adaptation of a VN that is actually worth adapting. Who wrote this? A 13 year old? |

Isn't this some high quality VN or something? This was terrible. Putting the production values aside(knowing this was crowd-funded), that was the very least of its problems. What a confusing mess. Music was good, at least. |

Ok, so hearing that this is a crowdfunded VN adaptation makes the weird storytelling and painful animation make sense. There might be something interesting here, hopefully it gets better with the main story. At least the soundtrack was fun. Also, as a side note on the animation, damn they love the vertical pans! |

I rarely put my negative thought about something to a discussion forum but now I just had the urge to so What is this? If I remembered it right there was someone who said that this was going to be an amazing anime at least on par with Fate if we are talking about the VN. I know that this was supposed to be a prolog but all this information dump and the many characters was too confusing to me. Well, I am not going to fret it too much since it is only the beginning. What disappointed me was the animations. I thought I was watching a hentai for a few minutes. Sometimes the key visual can be tricky. Well,it really fail me as a first impression. And it pale in comparison to the other anime of this season even Just because! Was better than this imo. I guess I will have to watch at leas two more episode to see wether this is worth watching or not. |

I didn't play the VN so this episode seemed all over the place for me. The animation was meh and none of the characters really impressed me. I just realized this was like a prequel or something which gives me hope that maybe the continuation would be a bit better. |

Not to shabby. Nice action. Nice music. Now, I am concerned though. This episode0 followed the "bad guy". I hope the series continues to do so. If the main series follows the "hero", it could be boring unless they keep up the action. I would prefer if we follow the bad guy and watch him destroy everything. |

tfw Weilhem stole Spinne's posture. Ok move on to the episode. Expect it to be at least decent by OH MY MERCURY!!! what the fuck is this. https://twitter.com/diesirae_anime/status/914781267517857792 The fight choreography is just.. wait, is there even a choreography in the first place? The animation is choppy as fuck, even with the low expectation after seeing the PV this is still too much. How are they going to translate Masada grandiloquent writing with this shit? This whole episode is a mess. Leaving confusing aside, I don't think they have presented any aspect to be an attractive point for anime only. They try to present it as 'cool chunni' but fail to deliver. What they did deliver is only the word 'try'. Still doubt if they even try in the first place. They use the same ost as VN, I would have been happy but after this episode. I think it is a bad move. When the VN ost plays, you, magically, get hyped feeling through Masada writing. But none of that feeling exists in this prologue. While Masada is still a scriptwriter. This is anime. The director plays an important role and he failed to deliver it, the feeling. The ending Card the only good thing in this episode. I hope we get more improvement on the actual TV series. But even if it all fuck up, as long as I can listen to Mercury's voice that is enough. |

I went in blind not knowing anything about this show at all and this episode was utterly confusing and plain bad. I'm not talking about the visuals, animation or music, which were okay-ish overall. But I'm talking about the plot, which was utterly unintelligible for someone new. Nothing really made sense and any kind of tension at the beginning disappeared when Mr. Godlike appeared and one-hitted everyone. Inexplicable character development and a time-shift later they are slaughtering whom? And then suddenly flying away with golden ships?!? Whatever happened to those strange German women? I could ask thousand more questions and at this point I don't even know anymore whether I care about having them answered. I should probably have waited for episode 1, since this absolutely failed as an appetizer for the show. Now I'd rather have back those 23 minutes of my life that I've lost... |

Pretty bad, incoherent, the scenes swap too quickly with little relevance on each other. Dialogue makes no sense, trying to be deep but at its core means nothing and explains nothing. OST was mediocre. Everything sort of came together at the end though barely due to how many unnecessary exposition of "love and destruction" and boring man. The German general feels so cheesy typical cool guy that is bored with everything wearing his coat like a cape. What kind of general show such lack of discipline. We don't even know what his motivation is. Just overhyped series because OP characters. This is what happens when Himmler gets what he wanted and Hitler is now rolling in his grave about now. And why the hell was the Schwerer Gustav charging some fire ball? Why was the Katyusha rocket artillery having cannon sounds? And having a soviet division sucked of their life force... how is that going to work in the history books? |
