The first part when Eva finds the gold transition to the rose garden was a bit confusing, and how Rosa solved the epitaph ? Plothole~

What happened in the VN:
Rosa gave a hint to Eva, (so Rosa was already close to solving the riddle) and that helped Eva to find the gold faster than Rosa.

I hated Eva Beatrice. Man, she was just annoying >< Her "torture with jelly and cake" was just a failure.
But yay for lady Bernkastel!

And Beatrice got bitchslapped by Battler? Poor thing.. ._.

Next episode should be awesome. Unless they play suspicion at that part...

But it seems like they are going a bit too slowly. Isn't there a lot of stuff left? I would hate for the end of the arc to be rushed again

There's 6 more chapters to cover plus the tea parties. The second to last chapter is the longest in this arc, while the last one is only about a minute or two. Based on the next preview, this my prediction of the episode breakdown for the rest of this arc.

Hmm can someone at least explain to me who battler is fighting now, the old beatrice (now beato right?) or the new one?
And the transfer of the title "beatrice" pernament or does it get reset in the next round.

Liked the ep overall it was just a total mindfuck again, i really need to rewatch this serie afterwards.

Oh Lambda and Beato you. So Tundra.

Eva-Beatrice is still cute as ever. Just her personality...

I didn't like how the episode went out in some parts. Eva-Beatrice skipped on how cruel children can just be and not know it, Battler and Beatrice didn't have a temporary ceasefire when Eva became a witch, among some others.

The worst has to be that they completely ignored Eva's feelings about the gold. At least have a short "Yes, I win!" or something before seeing Rosa. Everything about how they can get out of debt, she can give the gold to George when she's gone, etc etc.

Also, when Beato told Beatrice to stop in the visual novel, didn't she say because someone told her to?

Eva-Beatrice is crazy! I'm looking forward to see more of her.
I'm not really pleased with this new way (the former) Beatrice is behaving. She's too soft, I liked her when she was merciless. Well it's not like she's merciless now but she's boring like Eva-Beatrice said. :p

Shittiest episode until now. Still, the good points of it:
1. Beato is slapped.
2. Maria is killed.
3. Eva-Beatrice appearance.
Of course, with the good points, come the bad points.
1. Where the hell is the freaking awesome and evil Beato that everyone once knew?
2. Maria was killed by the worst way ever. Where is the fun? ;__;
3. Eva-Beatrice loves cakes.
(4. More child abuse, please.)

So, yeah, my score is 1.

Cool, Beatrice gets some depth. Her childishness was getting annoying, although I did like her crazy laugh. Love how she and Eva-Beatrice were just talking all chill with Rosa behind them all impaled on that fence thing. Ronove is pretty much just as awesome as Battler now.

So my assumptions on the doors and windows being automatically lockable where true. This makes the key theory moot now. A person doesn't need a key to lock a door after they kill someone. They could plant a key in an envelop, hand it off or place it somewhere, kill whoever they want at anytime, then trigger the auto locks for those rooms. I'm really hoping this isn't the answer though, just seems too obvious.

Eva-Beatrice should make up for all that.

It should. I was quite excited to Eva-Beatrice to appear, but in the end, the way she was trying to kill Rosa and Maria was... stupid. Eva-Beatrice =/= Beato. I really like both characters, but c'mon, that's ruining the good part of the series.

It's the day Eva Beatrice came into existence. It's the day of her birth.

The way Eva Beatrice kept killing Rosa and Maria was twisted. She was taking Rosa's silly childhood fantasies and turning into a nightmarish reality.

Wanting to fly. Plummeting to the ground
Wanting to swim in a sea of jelly. Drowning in a sea of jelly
Wanting to have mountain of cake. Being crushed by a mountain of cake

Awww I wanted the play-killings to be much more fun than that... I mean in the VN it just sounds so much better... the flying thing is the same, but the jelly sounded awesome in the VN... like what, 5 different types of jelly... and then she didn't drown... her body got crushed under pressure D:

ANd then the cake tower was meant to be bigger than Mt. Everest... that was hardly bigger than Everest... :/ And I didn't get to see my favourite one... the spider death... that would of been weird... but awesome :O

Nevertheless, it's pretty well done.

Lolcensors :/ Though not even I imagined Rosa's true death to be her falling that fast... I assumed it was a placing... bye-bye Medulla Oblongata!

Uh, Umineko has had some crazy stuff going on, but this is the first episode that made me wonder what the fuck am I watching.

Beato's personality chance was pretty weird.

And I'm actually kinda amused every time Rosa gets angry to Maria. Makes me wonder if this show is bad for one's mental health.

Umineko has been pretty fun show to watch, but I'd really like to see more mystery solving and less throwing confusing shit everywhere.

I wouldn't expect answers, it's a question arc after all.

If you've seen Higurashi then the first season was all about building the mystery and developing the characters. It didn't tell the answers until the second.

Umineko is going to be the same way, but you're supposed to try and figure out the answers yourself. If you don't try to solve the mystery then you're missing out on part of the enjoyment.

Well, this is pretty much setting the foundation of the questions, so this season will be "throwing confusing shit everywhere". The next season will be when some real solving starts.

EDIT: Damn, I was too late ;_;

I'll try and get the ball rolling with what I think based on what the anime has shown.

There are four guns not one. This makes Natsuhi and Rosa extremely suspicious; Making sure only they are armed when others could be. It also explains how Natsuhi was shot at the end of the first arc. There was another gun.

Rosa is capable of solving the epitaph. She could have solved it in the second arc and killed everyone to have the gold to herself. If you remove the fantasy scenes then we never see her or Maria die. Rosa also could have faked her death in the first arc. We have no solid proof that she was indeed killed. Can't deny the possibility that Nanjo was an accomplice.

Kanon is also very suspicious. He disappears in the second arc and we didn't see him die on screen in the first. There's no proof that his wound was fatal. If Nanjo is an accomplice then we can't trust that he did die. Kanon could have been working with someone else. Possibly Rosa. As for Beatrice's Kanon was kill in this room. We can try and find a loophole in her red. We know Kanon isn't his real name. Maybe you can lie with red if you use a fake name? Can't help but wonder that his real name is important since they never revealed it.

See? Making theories like these is what makes Umineko fun. I really think you're missing out if you take a passive role to the series.

So you've come to the same conclusions that I (and most everyone) did: Nanjo and Rosa are super suspicious. You don't really have anything special on Kanon since it hinges on denying a convention of the show. This is all very basic after what happened in the first arc, nothing more has really been done to further the mystery. Instead, it's just more diversion.

For the record, I don't mean to shit on you, I'm just saying that you've basically found enjoyment in stagnation.

Dismissing everything as a diversion will keep you from going anywhere with your thinking. I don't believe it's good to completely dismiss the fantasy scenes either. I'm sure they contain clues and hints. My post was much more than saying X was suspicious, I explained how and what role they could have.

I wasn't aware of the second season for Umineko, but I guess I should've figured out that much. And since Higurashi Kai was almost orgasmc experience, I will gladly watch this through.

Though I'm sure there will be lots of witches, censoring and cakes.

Maybe I'm just being ignorant, but after re-reading your post for the third time, it seems to me that you only narrowed down suspects with no motive and no explanation for how they did anything. That's not really a theory to me. I will give you credit in linking that there are for sure 4 guns and increasing the suspicion of Rosa's death in the first arc, but I think that's something the general audience deduced after this episode. As I said a few discussions ago, it's just fact-finding and deduction.

I don't think that the fantasy scenes can be totally waived off either. I think I've said that if in fact this is a mystery, then the fantasy scenes are all metaphors for what happens in reality. I think Virgilia underscored this when she was explaining to Battler. But since everything is so up in the air, it's hard to say anything really. But I will say this: Kumosawa becomes a much bigger player. Did she somehow find out about the murder's plans and confront them?

I posted this a while back but I think I will post it again because I feel it is a really important piece of information for how to view this series.

At the end of the first arc in the VN, when Bern first appears, she tells the audience/Battler something that was cut out of the anime for reasons I don't understand as I felt it was one of the most important things in the entire arc.

"First of all, about that girl. She does have the name Beatrice, but that does not mean that she is 'one individual women'. See what I mean? In other words, she's not some human. Her existence is a personification of the rules of this world. To beat her, you have to expose the rules of this world, and unravel them. If we were to compare, it would be something like learning the rules by watching a game of chess where you don't know them. First, take a good look at the chessboard. Then, learn the movements and roles of the pieces. Then, look for the conditions required to win at her game. When you've managed to expose those, there her heart will be exposed. After that, you can rip it apart or crush it as you please."

I took this to heart and viewed the rest of the arcs like this. Instead of constantly trying to solve the mysteries that were being presented I tried to figure out what the "Rules" of the game were. I interpreted this to mean figuring out what you can and can't trust. Or rather, what is true and whats not true. And then using that I can try and theory craft later.

Basically in short what I think I'm trying to say is that I feel figuring out how the narrative works exactly is more important than trying to solve the mysteries.

Obviously this is just my own opinion and just one of many ways to view this series. I just thought maybe some other people might prefer to view the series in this way.

I normally don't read information that wasn't in the anime, but I did here. Basically, it doesn't change much of what I think. It basically guides the viewer to think of the show as a mystery and that the fantasy elements are a metaphor. Honestly, that would tell me to take most of what Beatrice says with a grain of salt (up until the red words, but even that isn't as important) and instead pay attention to the general point that is being conveyed and work backwards to figure out the details.

It's best to not focus on motive. Anyone could have a motive for slaughtering the others. Especially when there's 20 billion yen of gold. Anyone could have a greedy dark side that we haven't seen.

Something I've been thinking about. Normally when you think of a culprit, you think of one person or group killing everyone. What if there's two opposing groups? Just because someone was killed that doesn't mean they weren't the culprit or accomplice, they might have been killed by an opposing group. There could be multiple culprits that aren't working together.

There's this really crazy theory that fans have.

That Shannon and Kanon are the same person.

It's based on the fact that piece Battler NEVER sees them together at the same time. Not once. It also feels like Kanon is Shannon's more aggressive and pessimistic side. Whenever they speak in private, it feels like a split personality.

Kanon disappeared in the second arc because he changed back to Shannon.

The anime provided an additional piece of info for it: Kanon and Shannon have the same height.

It's believed that Shannon once did exist but later died and Kanon took her role, pretending to be two different people.

George might not know. I don't believe George has even kissed Shannon, let alone slept with her. The only time you see Kanon liking Jessica is during the fantasy scenes. He normally rejects her.
