I actually really enjoyed this episode. I didn't enjoy Toaru Majutsu no Index all that much, especially to the halfway point and up, but Railgun looks promising.

Based on the OP, Railgun looks like it will get more serious later on. This 1st episode was really good though. Misaka totally rules. But Kuroko's voice, omg, it still annoys me.

Wonder if Index will appear at all?

Not bad, though I feel without Touma in the anime at all, it's not anything. Can't wait to see him. =S

Looks like Saten will be the OVA's lvl 0 heroine.

Hopefully this one won't have a static plot and characters that don't change no matter what happens to them like the parent series.

First episode was pretty decent. Without a doubt it doesn't suck you in, but could be a decent series that corrects some of the fatal script problems that tanked To Aru Majutsu no Index.

despite i didnt really enjoyed to aru majutsu no index that much (coz the characters talk too much...), but to aru kagaku no railgun seems very promising.
decent character, decent animation... and decent comedy especially when kuroko been kicked out from the bathroom and when the bad guy say: "there's another who rules over even that teleporter's body and soul" LOL WTF IS THAT!!! XD

p.s. oh, so misaka is 3rd strongest?

So far I'm liking it better than Index, mostly because Biribiri is my favourite character. I'm still hoping for Touma to appear later in the series, and the OP gave me hope. Speaking of which, I loved the OP.

Haven't read all of the thread yet, but exactly when is this set? Same time as Index or some time later?

This episode was bloody amazing. Or rather, the scene where Misaka fired the railgun at the car was. That was SO SO SO COOL!!! I ended up rewinding to watch it again cause it was so awesome.

Love the ED. (Although that's probably the OP.)

I hadnt heard of this series but I saw it was new on Animeseason and thought I'd check it out. I'm so happy I did cause that was amazing!

I love the plot aswell as the shower scene :P
The closing was great too!!

Saten is my favourite character already!
I love her carefree attitude and how even though she's a level 0 she still went to save the boy!

Biri Biri!!

Welcome back T__T

pretty funny & good start for railgun!

at first I wasn't rly looking that much for it, thinking "wth, they're making a Railgun instead of my Index S2??!" but what got me from the beginning to watch this show was Misaki Mikoto ^ ^

I didn't mind the yuri, even as a male, I was able to enjoy the humor ^__^

5/5 ep

and this ep made me even more a fan of Misaka <3

Can't wait 2 c more of Misaka!! (#^_^#)

n this series was surprisingly better than Index! I'd rly like 2 c what would happen when Touma makes his appearance =)

Well if it stills follows the manga, there might be a cameo appearance or two from the 7 Level 5's. But i hope they add one more for a certain Level 5

I liked this, even if it's an episode 0 (not part of the manga, but introduces all the characters).

Just a few things, did anyone check one of the scientists? Looked just like Tiaga from Toradora. I know, Toradora was also done by J.C.Staff.

I haven't read the manga yet but the way she reacted Touma wasn't part of her life yet so he could have walked right by her, but she had a foreshadow of this person to become important in her life.

I'm now waiting for the complete series. :D

Actually, a lot of people got wrong impression in first episode of Index. The meeting at the bridge wasn't their first meeting.

Another wrong impression people get: the original source of Index is not manga but the light novels.
Also, in the manga they DID meet on the bridge the first time. It is the original source (light novels) and Railgun manga that contradict that statement.

Umm, actually they didn't first meet on the bridge. They first met when Touma tried to save her from a bunch of local jerks (he tried to a knight in shining armour). Then they chased him and Misaka ended up saving him.

Amazing episode. Surprisingly good. If this keeps up, it will easily surpass To Aru Majutsu....

Nice blend of humor, action and awesomeness.

Yeah, hope to see the Antiskill teachers soon lol....While Majutsu no Index was the magic side of the Academic City, Kagaku no Railgun will go truly into the ESP side of Academic City (which is awesome imo)

No, they met months before that. As I said, that was mentioned in the light novels, stayed unmentioned in the anime and holds true for the Railgun manga as well (there is more to be mentioned here but that would be spoiling). Only in Index Manga they met for the first time on that incident.

Cant wait to see touma again his part in this side story is funny as hell and whenver mokoto is around him she always blushes and cant spit out words even though we wont see him much he probley has the biggest influance on her so yey Touma and BTW i wish they just made a sequel to the orignal index and not this but whatever works:)

I agree, this little side plot is really just annoying. I'm much more curious about what is happening with Touma and Index right now. This generic Yuri fanservice was terrible in Index, but is just so blatantly obvious now that it really does speak volumes about how much worse this show and the industry is getting. By the looks of how many people like this show, it appears I'm in the wrong place. I thought Index almost did a good job of crossing fantasy with sci/fi, but ultimately it's fanservice also detracted from the story. Now here comes Railgun, which by the looks of it is going to focus on the pubescent fantasies of 13 year old boys and 40 year old virgins. This first episode lacked any of the intrigue and excitement that Index's first episode had. Disappointment is the only thing that crosses my mind right now. And still I can't help but notice that this show is probably is one of the better shows to come out thus far, but that really isn't saying much for the quality of shows being released this Fall. I'm still gonna stick it out and hope that it gets better. I'll save final judgment and posting until the series ends. It would probably be smarter to just read the Manga to see if it's even worth continuing.

It's the opposite for me. Touma was so annoying and boring and the original series would be great without him. All the side characters are more interesting than Touma. And this is no Ghost in the Shell and the original Index was FAR from being anything close to what you have described as "good job of crossing fantasy with sci/fi". Railgun is a great improvement over Index because it doesn't try to be extremely serious at all (and fail like Index).

I would suggest you continue the series since the plot get much more into science-fiction than fantasy. The mere fact that they presented in detail how Academic City work in the first episode (which was NEVER made clear in To Aru Majutsu) is already a plus. In my opinion, that already makes this series much more serious than Index, even when it doesn't try to be that way.

Misaka and her friends are much more interesting than Touma and Index. The great setup of the first episode even surpassed the impressive first episode of To Aru Majutsu...

And this sidestory happens BEFORE To Aru Majutsu, and will reach the MISAKA arc towards the end.

bla bla bla

Touma is the biggest reason why I dropped Index. I mean, come on, i would give the show a 3 at most (for the animation) because of him.

I remember the last Index episode I watched (8 or 9) when he tries to stop Misaka from killing herself. I was like, "meh here goes Touma, opening his mouth again, got to skip it quick...."

ps: oh yeah, he is exactly the same type as Yuji from shana series, biggest failure of generic male lead....

7, 8 and 9 was the arc about the "Deep Blood"? am i wrong or did i just watched a different series cause it was titled To Aru Majutsu no Index, and believe me i'm watching that arc right now, and Touma is a side character on Railgun, so don't bother Touma, probably he only gets a little screen time, this series is great continued to watch both of them Index and Railgun XD

I will concede anything that relates to the light novel since I haven't read it (btw, do you have the link?). Just for the manga/anime discussion only, they did first when Touma was acting very chivalry without any knowledge of who Misaka was. Both the Index and Railgun manga make mention of it. I'll just end this discussion here since we're going to compare the light novel with the manga with the anime and we've seen that a lot of artistic licensing is done between the three.

As for the first episode, Saten-san was not part of the manga. If she was introduced in the light novel, then the manga should not be source material for discussion in this forum since we're going to get a lot of contradictory information that will become confusing as the series progresses.

Yeah, this is not the show for you then. This 'side plot' is the entire show. Touma appears sparingly and Index will not appear. As for what they're doing right now, you watched that in Index already. ;) Railgun is basically a parallel to Index, showing us what Mikoto was doing while Index and Touma were off doing Indexy things.
