I just love the smoothness of the OST. Pretty chill episode with Akadama-sensei. The talk about family was pretty chill as well even though I feel some emotions to it. Nice.

Hearing how things went out with Yajirou was kind of depressing, especially the reason why he's in that well. This was good episode, and I liked what Yasaburou said at the end about how his father's traits are split amongst them: Yachirou with the responsibility, Yajirou with the easy-going personality, Yashirou with the innocence, and Yasaburou was left with his idiocy. With that they're all connected together because of their mom, that was very interesting.

So that's why he went into the well...

Damn... this show is so heavy on the emotions in a way i didn't expect it.

The mystery been solved though. Their father accepted his fate of being boiled and left a message to the professor.

Such a heartfelt episode. Yaichiro breaking down after learning that their mother knew all along about the circumstances in regard to Yajiro really hit hard.
Step by step buried feelings and hidden regrets are coming to light without the show ever losing its uplifting atmosphere.

This was such a beautiful episode. Really emotional T_T and Dat OST.

Yajiro's emotions of regret were really well displayed here.

Yasaburo still continues to be an awesome character.

And the more I get to know about their father the more I think he's BA. Really love his character.

I really want to know more bout Kaisei and see her already. I'm already loving her without even seeing her once O_o XD well seems like there'll be a chance nxt episode :)

It still baffles me that tanuki get eaten by mere humans when they can transform into mountains and trains. You'd think they'd fight back a little.

good, I've been waiting for Yajirou episode for the longest time and I now it's here so yaaay!
anyway, during the flashback scenes I cried a bit but then I cried a little harder when Yajirou keeps blaming himself, and it even got really worse during family talk especially between Mother and Yaichirou. I don't easily cry but damn this episode made me cry like a little brat. When Yaichirou's crying so hard, I was crying along too. Gaaah the OSTs, the mood and everything, too much feels for me to handle!

and while I'm crying so hard, I squealed a little whenever they are in their tanuki form... these little furballs.

That was so emotional, I teared up a bit. Seeing a calm person like Yajirou and a strong person like his older brother break down really got me.

Kaisei helps out the Shimogamo family a lot despite her siblings being assholes, I hope that somehow she and Yajirou get together since it is shown she also cares for him a lot.

Hmmm... So, is the implication that Souichirou let himself be captured for the stew pot in order to set in motion the breaking of the engagement between Yasaburou and Kaisei, and thus giving Yajirou a shot at his love for Kaisei?

The fact that Kaisei is featured in the previews for next week suggests that may be the case. We'll see...

Yeah that was a great way to end the episode, and it really reflects the theme of family. So many heartbreaking and also touching moments in this episode...many tears were shed. I like how we learned about Yajirou, and also how the other two brothers coped with the news of how Yajirou was the last one to see their father. It was also interesting to learn that Yajirou loved Kaisei. The music is great as always, and of course it was especially sad in this episode. Also, Yaichirou crying like that in the end because he understands Yaichirou, that was a really emotional scene.

28 people and still a unanimous 5 on the episode and it certainly deserves it. I still think there is more to his death than has been revealed thus far, but we'll find out before the end of the series. Must dry my eyes and decide whether this show is a 10 yet. I think it will be up there by the end.

And I think I just fell in love with the mother...

I was not prepared for the amount of tears I shed while watching this episode. It was the worst watching Yaichiro break down. Ugh all these perfectly portrayed emotions. All the pain. It pulled at the heartstrings but at the same time it still kept with the theme and tone of the series.

OST is perfect - can't wait till that comes out.

This series is still one of my favorites of the season - WHY AREN'T MORE PEOPLE WATCHING THIS?!

^This. Here lies most of thoughts.

Dat OST. It's just so perfect with the mood and atmosphere. It also helped in making me weep during the entire episode. When Yajirou was blaming himself, I started weeping. And when Yaichirou cried near the ending, I wept along with him.

I like the scene where Yajirou became a train.

We might finally see Kaisei next week! Females are a bit troublesome in this anime.

At their final meeting this episode, Akadama-sensei asked Souichirou why he came in his “hairball” form, and he replies he’s past the point of transformation. Perhaps tanuki lose their ability to transform when they get to be a certain age?

This would tie into the conversation between Yasaburou and that Friday Fellow’s member where the professor says he would rather be eaten by a tanuki as sustenance that whither away at a hospital in old age. Perhaps Souichirou feels the same way, he would rather be eaten in a stew, remaining immortalized as a tanuki of great stature, than have his family and friends remember him later at his passing as a shadow of his former self: old, decrepit, and unable to transform. Just a thought.

When Akadama drank with Soichiro, Soichiro had already been eaten which is why he said he couldn't transform anymore. Akadama was drinking with his spirit who was on his way to whatever afterlife Tanuki go when they die. Tengu can see spiritual lifeforms afterall considering their nature

I don't know the specifics but I know that rock formation has to deal with some kind of LIMBO/afterlife in Japanese folklore

Felt bad for Yajirou for blaming himself over his father's death.Turns out that's the reason he's in the well.

Yaichiro breaking down and crying when he finds out his mother knew all along was sad as well.

Glad they all got something from their father...
"When saying goodbye to this world, our father split his great blood into four: the eldest inherited only his sense of responsibility;the second eldest inherited only his easying going personality;our little brother inherited only his innocence;as for me,I inherited only his idiocy."

Very emotional episode. Yajirou's guilt was extremely depressing, and Yaichirou's breakdown was just..damn.

It's a good thing Yasaburou is around, I think his somber, reflective attitude keeps the tone from getting too negative, and it also brings it down a notch when it threatens to get too positive. His character provides a very consistent balance to the show.

Perfect OST as usual. I mean it's ridiculously good, and so fitting.

if the staff are saying "YOU ARE GONNA CRY IN THIS EPISODE" usually i won't cry. but hey they pulled it off. Yajirou's feelings for Kaisei and how he turned into train n had fun were heartbreaking. the most emotional part for me was when mom said she knew why Yajirou holed himself up in the well.

i like the ending statement from Yasaburou too --Sou's blood split into four and how those who are left behind can be united when someone's gone or something--; it was interesting.

The emotions in this episode were portrayed perfectly. Definitely one of the most powerful and moving episodes of any show this season for me.

After a relatively average start this anime has quickly become something I look forward to every week. I think this show is sorely underrated and the people who passed over it after an episode or two are going to regret it.

I'm glad that we got to see some background on Yajiro and I feel bad that he is putting all the blame on himself.

"When saying goodbye to this world, our father split his great blood into four: the eldest inherited only his sense of responsibility; the second eldest inherited only his easygoing personality; our little brother inherited only his innocence; as for me, I inherited only his idiocy. What held us diverse brothers together was the love of our mother, deeper than the sea, and parting with our great dad. One major departure can connect the ones left behind."

This episode had so many feels TAT~ Damn, I cried way too much. Then again, it's way too easy to make me cry when I watch anime xD

This episode got the unanimous applause, and the biggest one in the series so far, from fans in Japan for its skilful and meticulous handling of the emotion depth and storytelling. Everyone cried (and that includes me). The art, the music, the character sakuga, the voice acting are all simply marvelous. The sales ranking of the BD/DVD also made a big jump after this episode was aired.
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Agree, this episode was a big surprise for me, although all were packed into 1 episode but it was such a great ep. Especially the character developments, they were natural and heaped with feelings.
