Nagi's lazy as usual.

Wow, mini sections about Isumi before and after CM!! Nagi's abduction again with new character by Iguchi-san? involved. ... WAIT, Nagi's sister? I forgot to add that I'm not sure if the abduction is related to the idol (Ruri girl, who constantly appearing during the abduction scene)...

No OP this ep. and ED is so cool.

Damn, it's been awhile since I've watched anything from the Hayate the Combat Butler franchise. The animation is..sort of different but whatever.

I lol'd @ the beginning. That typical tsundere stranded in the middle of the desert. Ha! The road chase scene was hilarious also with Hayate on the chase with that bike.

Overall, it was a cute episode :) and Nagi is such a tsundere.

Nice ending also.

Could be entirely possible since this is an anime original rather than being based upon the manga.

Yes, her name is Ruri Tsugumi and apparently, she is her sister as she claims. However, after searching a bit on wiki, I couldn't find any information on her so it might be an anime original character.

After watching a short preview (hope the full ep comes later today), the feeling I got so far is somewhat neutral. (What is actually a good thing)

You're right on the money!
That's an interesting twist, although I have this itchy feeling about how they will handle the flashforwards...

I'm easy to please with anime so my vote might not count for much, but I like this and I think this will be a good series. Whether or not it will meet up to the expectations of the old series is another question. Either way, I can't wait til next week!

Nice start, we'll see how it will work out.
But I was expecting something much weaker, yet it was ok.

Lack of Emperor Wakamoto was visible
and one other thing:
Isumi's mother using a smartphone... really?! Person which had problems with geting into her own home is doing it? Still it was great to see those two.

It turned out way better than expected, and I already thought it was gonna be good. Just like everyone said, the chase scene was epic. Extremely moe, good comedy, and the plot seems very interesting and feels like im gonna cry lots. Cant wait till next Wednesday.

Hmmm...I have mixed feelings about it...I can't say I didn't like it, but I also can't say I loved it. There's also a new AO character.
Nagi's imouto wtf... it seems we're gonna know about Nagi's father, and she'll probably be an illegitimate child from him since I don't see her mother doing sth like that

Well, I'd say any new viewer to the series would probably like it, also any Nagi fan too.

Also, I gotta admit the animation is better than I thought it would be and those scenes with Ruka are pretty random but enjoyable along with her songs too.
And ofc u gotta love that chase scene and how Hayate punched that guy in the jaw...and how he kept throwing snowballs at Yukiji XD

I forgot how that was called - but I think so too.
There were also scenes from previous seasons (bike chase or one on the space ship), so it being set in "the future" seems legit.

Spoiler to the manga

Picture of the Violet Mansion

That's all I wanted to know.
It's a flashforward. Period. And that sucks for manga readers...

"Original" doesn't necessarily mean "non-canon", only that it's "new".

Um, guys, Hata stated in the manga that the animated series was anime original and not going to follow the same plotline as the manga, but Hata did have a hand in writing it, so it's probably going to be a completely different story

I think it was also stated that Nagi has no siblings, so she couldn't have a sister if the timeline wasn't different.
The only thing consistant with what was said in the manga with what I have seen is that Nagi's father is dead.

Also, when I first saw the anime-original character, I thought of Lucky Star, probably because of the hair antenna

"You're such an idiot."
~Celty (Durarara)

"How many seconds until the boy confesses his love to the girl?"
~Durarara

Should it be sad now that twice in a season I've been glad that subs scrolls by to quickly for me to process?

The new animation wasn't as bad as I thought. The new character, Ruri Tsugumi is pretty cool and humorous in many occasions. I can't believe that Hayate became an oni within just a few months. I liked the reference to the first kidnapping of the entire series. I loved the new ending as well. Ruka! <3

That may be true. If it is canon to the original plot, that would be awesome since Nagi gets back her inheritance. It was also hinted since it was during September and how Ruri asked for the "treasure that was passed down in the Sanzennin family".

Where the f*ck is my Hina? This ep lacked Hina!!!

All and all, very good first ep, been waiting 3 years for this, and I must say it was worth it. The bike chase took me back to when I first started this series, I thought it was pretty clever how they started this new story of Hayate the same way it all began. Thanks for that rush of nostalgia.

The characters are all still great, which is why this series has been one of my favorites. 10/10 This episode, great start!

The little intro and ending by hayate was funny to start. I was kinda skeptical about this series since it was gonna be original but I gonna continue to watch it. But i do have a question, isn't that singer from the manga ? I stop reading after a certain point but i remember seeing a character that kinda resembled her.

And the most thing that concerns me is... Ruka, my only speculation is that she's...well, you see.. Dead, yes. That's her ghost in the ED.. look how coincidence it is, Ruka isn't a healthy girl and might be suffering from a a fatal illness yet we still don't know about it and the Anime came after that chapter and gives some hints..
I can feel that this Hayate Anime will be more serious than a comedy Anime.

Uh... it's a MUSIC VIDEO. Music videos have special animations. From what I've experienced, i'm sure it's just a special effect. Also, Ruka is in poor health not with a freaking disease. And like Psychokinesis said, how can she perform from the afterlife and sell a new album?

I have mixed feelings on this; while its nice to see the Hayate series back and the animation wasn't as bad as i thought it was initially; it still wasn't all that great. Them choosing to do this series over animating the Athena is still something i think is a huge mistake; and i doubt i will change my mind on that either. That said i did enjoy a few things about this episode; like the chase scene which reminded me of the very first chapters; and also the little things like Hayate knocking out Yukiji with a snowball. Things i didn't like however were the excessive Nagi and the random appearance of her "sister"; well in any case i will keep watching, it will likely be enjoyable as whole afterall its just wasting potential by not sticking to manga imo.

yes, he did, my friends actually tell me he did it twice.

I'm thinking that it's going to be a FMA/FMA:B type thing, with FMA going in one direction and then FMA:B following the manga-line later. The same thing with the animation of Hayate.

Better than expected :D And the character designs could be ignored easily if you concentrate~

What's up with the violet house shown in slow-mo?
ED theme was good as expected of Ruka's seiyuu... I'm still not used to it though since this is the first time they made this kind of music as an ED theme.

I'm not convinced this is Nagi's little sister too...

Overall, good episode :D I think I'll like this series' storyline.

More like the author does; which makes zero sense to me since that arc made the manga; the author even went out of the way to make a whole new story for this anime T_T; why do all that extra work when animating the Athena arc would be countless times better....i seriously seriously don't get it.

Maybe Manglobe hates the idea of Hayate giving a girl more attention than to the other ones, so they asked Hata for a new plot. And Ruka is more important to them, because they can sell more singles this way.

Anyway, I'm not saying it was a bad episode, but I feel like it could have been way better.

but why the hell do you waste Ruka's first anime appearence like this..

and also when i heard, thats been 3 years already....and 1 since the movie, i was surprised, also kugimiye rie has kinda lost her touch in her voice...i really thought she was a diff seiyu for a sec (even tough shana sounded exactly the same )

well this could be funny, it was really nostalgic to watch that kidnapping again

The worst moments of the Athena arc would still be countless times better than this; its not even comparable.

Also i still don't get why...because with that reasoning whats with the excessive Nagi in this episode? in the manga she has at best become a afterthought; yet she was on the screen more than Hayate this episode (or at least it felt that way).

This show may very well be enjoyable when all is said and done; but it has zero chance at matching the Athena arc; Manglobe and Hata messed up, its that simple.
