Just FYI, they aren't light novels at all, but actually rather long.

Just FYI, whether a novel is classified as a light novel or not is unrelated to its length.

True, it's related to the graphic content and prose style.

On both counts, "From the New World" is not a light novel.

Assuming they adapt it, yes, yes there is.

Here's a chart of the sexual and romantic relationships amongst the main five characters. Naturally, it's a massive spoiler.

I read part of the novel and also read a lot of the reviews about the novel in Japan blogs/forums so I know quite a lot about the world in the novel and what is going to happen. But I do not feel like spoiling it. Suffice to say that the chart above indeed reflects the relations depicted in the novel, although the English translation of "crush" should better be translated as "is attracted by" instead. Sex, of underaged, promiscuous and homosexual kind, is a very noticeable in the novel but forms a really minor role there. Depiction can be very explicit in the novel but I doubt it will be depicted as such in the anime.
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

They're not. Aidoru will, however, be releasing a translation of Chapters 1 and 2 (~65 pages).
Hopefully there'll be enough interest for a legit translation to get done by either the Japanese publisher, or a company in the US.

That's quite an, erm, interesting chart. o_____o Weird, but I'll look forward to seeing how this plays out in the anime. I'm also quite interested in reading the novel. This anime is turning out to be one of my favorites of the season.

That will be difficult unless you can read Japanese (and fluently, it's not a simple text), but do look out for the release of the first two chapters that Aidoru Translations will be putting out!

Included will be a glossary of the in-universe terminology used in those chapters.

Really? I've seen no indication of that so far, so the chart surprised me quite a bit.

I thought the anime had hinted that Satoru liked Saki, but to see that it is Shun surprises me slightly. Though I've nothing against the relationships themselves, I don't see this anime having a need for it. I expected a dark and sinister story, mixed along with some fantasy, and so far the series seems promising. I'm not sure if I will enjoy the series still when the relationships start to develop. (I don't care about the yuri or yaoi, and I don't think it should be a reason to drop the anime either.)

I won't be discouraged from watching the anime, as it is probably one of the best this season, but I will be cautious. I really don't see it as a story that requires it from what I've seen.

And there's nothing wrong with it being yuri/yaoi. If you're saying it's crap because it isn't malexfemale, then that's a different story than saying because there's sexual relationships. But it seems to me, Naxrrhid, that you don't like the anime to begin with and found a reason (the fact that you didn't like it wasn't enough?) to not watch it. But you seem to think that it will become the main focus. I believe that this anime won't do that and only make it a part of it. I highly doubt this series will turn into something like a romance/ slice of life drama of any sort. And yes, calling it "disgusting" because it might contain homosexuality is a homophobic statement. And just because one doesn't find it "disgusting" or "crap" doesn't make one a fan of it - simply it means that it doesn't bother them that it's homosexual. Would it still bother you if it was heterosexual? This series also has a stronger sci-fi and supernatural air than many other series under the same genre. It doesn't feel like "real life but contains super powers/ technology," but it is actually set in a different (future) world and feels supernatural in the sense of horror/mystery Japanese science fiction, not technology sci-fi like Ghost in the Shell. It feels like the super-naturalism is truly a part of the world, not something strange or out of place.

Plus the MAL score is irrelevant. You can find an anime to be utterly boring or poorly done to be highly rated, or underrated anime that are great.

It just bothers me that there are relationships in the first place. And aren't they about 12/14? Is there a time skip before the sexual relationships develop or no?

I can certainly understand if that was the case, since 1000 years is a VERY long time. And I think it will help them show us that their world really is different from ours if those things are normal to them.

There is a sort of explanation in the novel of why things became like that though.

Their age being too young for that also disturbs me (And I don't like yaoi. not bothered by yuri though lol. maybe because it's not my gender). But I think maybe because they don't consider it as something to be controlled, that would lead them to do it earlier than what the normal age for us is (if that will indeed be the case. since I don't know when will they be doing it.), because they wouldn't hesitate or anything before doing it for the 1st time.

Bear in mind that when civilization was not as advanced like the present age, marriage and sex took place when people reached their puberty (which could mean like 12/14). Anyway, the culture as in the anime world definitely has no problem whatsoever for such things to take place for people at that age.

Yeah these kids look way too young, my first impression makes me think around age 10-12. Isn't that a little too young to even desire sex, I mean these kids aren't even exposed to all the sex that weve seen in movies and tv so I find that highly unrealistic. It's really messed up how their sexualizing these young kids like that. I really hope they don't include that in this show, it would be better and more realistic for them to just develop strong bonds with each other. I'm quite enjoying this show so far so I hope it doesn't take a turn for the worse :P

Twelve isn't an unrealistic age for having sexual desires at all. That is around the time that most children hit puberty and start having raging hormones. Trust me. I went through three years of middle school surrounded by boys who didn't seem to have anything to talk about other than dirty stuff.

Wasn't it more that 10-14 year old girls were married off to older men as they reached the age in which they were able to bear children? Either way even if they did have raging hormones they seem to hardly be able to get their feelings across to each other, let alone develop relationships that will lead into sex nevermind that crazy sex chart that was posted earlier lol.

Well males go through puberty later then girls do that's a fact, if you didn't have raging hormones at that time then they definitely didn't, they were probably just trying to look big in front of their friends, which kids do a lot at that age.

Well sure in our world, where kids are bombarded with the glorification of sex through movies, tv, and especially the internet. Plus even in our world it's still kinda rare for 12 year olds to have sex. In this all them have sex at least once despite the fact that they are not subjected to the media. Come on you don't think it's weird that a group of friends just all want to fuck each other?

It is weird, but it's also 1000 years into the future. The media may have nothing to do with it, but it's simply the cultural difference. People have already said that during this time, promiscuity, homosexuality, and sex at a young age were accepted. I think waiting and seeing how exactly it plays out would be the best thing to do. Not to mention the fact that there is apparently a time skip where they are 14. And 14 year olds have sex isn't uncommon.

Also, at least where I live, most of the girls at my school hit puberty at around 10-11 and the boys at 12-13. So I wouldn't say that having sexual desires at 12 is weird. Most kids don't act upon those desires at that age, but they are still there.

yeah but I still find it hard to believe, maybe the population of the human race is on the decline so the adults influence the kids to have more sex haha. I dunno thats the best I got to explain it. and yeah even though kids are starting to devolop those desires, they don't peak till later teens, I mean look at people in college, never have I met a hornier group of people lol. I hope they don't include it in the series, it seems like the author put it in because sex sells, or shes just a sex addict or something...

That chart was either made by troll or he/she got confused with manga and novel. The manga is full of yuri sex.

Real Chart????:

Beside that it doesn't look like there's any homo right now and later on episodes. I don't see it happened anytime. The only thing I'm seeing is that Shun might have feeling for Saki and Saki has a crush on him.

As a reader of the original novel,
I will tell you that No, the novel ultimately isn't yaoi/yuri, but there will be certain BL/GL elements and scenes depending on how A-1 Pictures will adapt. Let me explain in more detail.

One of shinsekai's primary setting is the prohibition of premature romance between opposite sexes. That is, boys and girls must remain virgins until the age of 18. Homosexual behavior is rather common in their world. The novel does contain some explicit scenes of that. Here's an excerpt of the translated version

Narrated by Saki (now 14 years old), she is trailing Satoru and Shun holding hands walking together, and witnessing a kissing scene between them. The novel is long, the story will get far off, I don't want to spoil too much right now but let me warn you that it will get increasingly dark and extremely complicated (with the various conflicting forces). Yes there will be lots of twists (that I don't want to spoil there will be death among the main characteres), the story will progress till Saki is some 30 years old.

No worries, the yaoi and yuri parts are only present during their childhood. It becomes BG (boy x girl) after that, for the eventual pairing and marriage. Romance isn't the most important theme of the novel, I personally wouldn't care whether they incorporate some explicit elements into the anime or not. But certainly, this show isn't for everyone, right now it seems pretty light but just wait til everything is revealed and the real plot starts. If you think you'll feel uncomfortable with some disturbing scenes, drop it now
