Hello fellow people of MAL, I just finished watching this and I feel so empty. I love how this anime has some unconventional tropes, which made it really amazing. For context, I know that the theme of this anime and tropes are sort of unique, but what recommendations can you give? I have already watched like Oregairu and a lot of romance anime, what else are out there for me to explore and indulge into.

Yeah Makeine is kinda unique but if you want a classic romantic anime i would suggest Tomo-chan is a girl

There's nothing very similar, but I recommend Renai Flops, an original anime, with one season and a closed ending, it's a very different romantic comedy.

Note: there is a lot of ecchi.

Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

I hadn't noticed before, but you haven't watched Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu, so I recommend it too, since it's one of the best romances of recent years.

both have Anna's who are big eaters.

Yeah, it's not. I just recommended to check it out if the OP hasn't. I'd say Insomniacs has some similarities to BokuYaba.

Yeah it is not a similar story still it got the same vibe to it a little serious yet funny at times and a drama driven show rather than comedy driven romance

I recommend Momokuri it's cute and from what I remember oftentimes dealt with a few issues that are different from other romance anime. it's been awhile since I've seen it but I definitely recommend!

OreSuki is the closest thing you can find imo. It’s another romcom that satirizes the typical tropes of the genre and features the mc trying to set the main girls up with another guy

I enjoyed this anime, too! Oresuki was really fun watching, where it sort of resembles some aspects of Makeine.

it’s a pretty unique series, so it’d be hard to recommend something too similar. however, i would recommend Love is War, Horimiya, and Blue Box!

You can watch "Orange". Also there's "365 Days To The Wedding" which is ongoing and has 9 episodes till date. There's also "You Are Ms. Servant" which also has 9 episodes till date. And you can also watch "Actually, I Am..." aka "Jitsu wa Watashi wa" which I am watching currently and was released back in 2015 with 13 episodes. All are good and has different theme like first one is kind of like a time travel, second one is like office rom-com but with a twist, third one has maid assassin as the main female protagonist who wants to live a normal life and fourth one is school rom-com with a human vampire, human look alike alien and a human look alike demon with horns. All are worth it. It depends on what you prefer normal slice of life rom-com or you want some twists along with them.

@Er1kAnderson Blue Box is definitely something I am waiting to finish this season! As for Horimiya, I might get hated for this, but it is not my cup of tea.

@Uruichi Thanks for this! I have already watched both and enjoyed them. I really prefer Hyouka though over Makeine, but definitely something that I will be looking forward for is a 2nd season of Makeine.

People saying Kuzu no Honkai and tbh I see where they’re coming from but that series is significantly darker than this one and while they have similarities, it doesn’t really feel like it fits imo
