I’ve just finished s1 which was great and now watching the 22m recap for s1 & the first half of s2 and s2 doesn't seem terrible from what iv seen so far.

What supposedly lets it down since it’s so widely despised?

S2 is terrible because of the original ending it has and all the cut content especially the Goldy Pond arc

I had no frame of reference since I'm anime-only, but I just felt S2 was mediocre overall.

Characters introduced then ignored, plot was all over the place, ending itself was a letdown, I could go on.

S1 was the perfect prison break show, but S2 would have been awful even if S1 had never existed.

it's just not even close to being as good as the manga with all the cut content and anime original ending. adaptations like that are never good

Same I was anime only and it just felt like like a big step down from season one in all aspects of the show

tbh it wasn't that bad to me. sure maybe comparing to the manga (which I didn't read) it may be terrible, but as anime only it's a decent season imo.

the only people who really got a problem with it are those that read the manga me being one of them, and a few anime only people. one of the biggest complaints is they skipped the Goldy Pond arc which people really wanted to see animated. along with some very important character introductions and how they just ended it the way they did wasn't good for people.

They skipped 4 major arcs to make it a 12 ep anime and you ask what's bad about it . Ep 10 of s2 was produced with no script so one took credits for it . if you want more info watch the video of foxen anime on yt

I had the same thoughts as you do when I didn't read the manga at the time.
I was like: "nah they exaggerating, it can't be that bad"
Then I started reading the manga, it was mostly the same until I came to the part where they get out of the orphanage.
There were many changes, such as the old man that was supposed to be there but dead actually being in that basement, Goldy pond arc, the meeting with Norman is also very different and it's basically better, the ending is also much much better.
When I finished the manga, I wanted to take my words back since nobody was really exaggerating, it was really just that much terrible.
They rushed season 2.
They definitely could've made it 3 seasons and maybe with cutting off some unimportant parts, they could've adapted most of the canon story.
So yes, it's very bad.
Just read the manga, nothing will feel spoiled since season 2's ending was only an ending for itself, the manga ending is much better and it's just way different than season 2's ending.
yes.

Even as an anime only i can easily tell how low the quality dropped.
First season was the best suspense anime I've ever seen period. Things were constantly on the edge. We felt like everything could go wrong every minute and decisions characters made had consequences.

But in the sequel characters no longer had to plan and put effort in anything, because convinient solutions were juet happening without their involvement and antagonists were stupid.
The worst part was Emma, who was IMO the best protegonist of 2019. She felt real, had moments or weaknesses, was relatable and resourcerul.
In sequel she was just a Mary Sue. Always correct and morally superior, thus boring ans insufferable. Wants to befriend demons because "that's moral thing to do" and managed to Talk no Jutsu final boss into commiting suicide in like two sentences.

You really do not need to read the manga to notice how dogshit this sequel was.

"skipped" wouldn't be the right word. You should say that they made their own ass-shit story.

I mean, the pacing should be enough to throw you off. Nothing is properly explained and the story is a mess. You don't even need to know that it rushed half the manga in just a dozen episodes, to understand why it's so bad.

Skips 90% of the manga and has a slideshow ending showing scenes from the manga that basically is a slap to the face to any fan of the manga. I read the manga after being disappointed by the anime and I'm glad I did. The manga was amazing especially the Goldy Pond Arc.

The anime has a good ending to it and I think it's terrible. The manga ending is perfect and not every story has to have a fairytale ending. Some stories end how they end even if it's sad or bittersweet. That's reality. That's life.

say did the ending was different in the manga? I think in the anime they ended it with this sister who was with them in s1 went to the human side or something with them. what they did different in the manga?

I’m fine with anime going away from the manga, but this anime did it terribly. It’s rushed, there was a time skip that doesn’t make sense, bad dialogue, bad logic from the “villains.” Bad ending, terrible. It ended with a slideshow of another time skip.

What it did right was the animation and music. Some episodes were great but the overarching plot is dumb.
The right mindset when watching an anime is hoping that it will break your top 10

Season 1 was without a doubt amazing and even as fast as going goated and after having that much of an excitement in the 1st season, you get hyped for the second season and it was just mid and that was a serious let down.Atleast that's what it was for me.

Season 1 is great, but then they took so long with trying to add plot to the beginning of the second season that by the end all your left with is a slide show. Literally just slides of the adventures they went on to escape. It’s a disappointment

Even as an anime-only, I thought it was terrible. The pacing was awful (which you'll probably notice more during the second half of the season) and it didn't feel like there was any actual tension going on since every problem was resolved immediately after it was introduced. The ending was unbearably expositional because even they knew they rushed it and had to explain what was going on.

To be honest at the beginning it was actually going pretty damn well. But then they fucked it up by completely leaving out the most important arcs (like the pond) one. They also completely changed the ending into a really stupid and shitty one. If they hadn't done that, it wouldve actually been kinda long. But they just had to fuck it up

It skipped one of the best arcs in the manga which is why it gets the hate. Fans of the original series didn’t like how rushed it was. However, for what S2 was, it wasn’t bad. IMO. Overall animation, world building, and central conflict up until the finale were all good.

S1 was so good like it had tension, it had mystery it had good hype, it was scary. S2 didn’t have those things it felt less everything and the ending felt super rushed like the pacing in S2 was super off. So many things wrong with S2 I think if S2 didn’t come out I wouldn’t have minded S1 was a masterpiece
