Nah I liked him the whole series. I thought his character and how he never really let anyone know what he was actually thinking was cool. I also liked his relationship with thorfinn. Askeladd was my favorite character from the series

Only a few eps, when he took Thorfinn on his boat, i knew he is gonna be someone really important.

Honestly Thorfinn learnt a lot from him, and that's a reason he is so nicely developed.

Love Askellad. When he told his own backstory, I was like, Nah man this man can't be hated,, he loves his mom. So instant change in mind.

No one hates Askeladd. You may think you do, but as time goes on he grows on you. That's the case with most characters in Vinland. I used to hate Thorfinn in season 1, then I read Farmland Saga and he became my favorite of the series.

thorfinn kills several men with families too throughout the show without guilt.

this is a common thing for the cast and is definitely not exclusive to askeladd.

Askechad is literally one of the most understandable Antagonists in anime and manga.

Hate him? There is no way in hell anyone other than our understandably edgy protag is hating on him...

I love Askeladd and He is one of the best best characters in the prologue, atleast to me. Of course, I didn't really like him initially but as the show continued, the plot progressed and the interactions matured; there is no way in any possible universe that a man, strong in mind and body, is being hated. I am sure many of you can relate to this.

Anyone hating on Askeladd means that they didn't understand the story or is simply a child like our protag (issa joke don't at me for this).

though he let thorfinn live with him making him humiliate (which was actually the reason he became stronger) but still there were scenes were he pretended to not know his crimes intentionally, to make him angry,

the reason for hating him is not only because he killed thorfinn's father but also that he did that *unfairly* . this is what that made me really angry

hell no i didn't feel the same, the guy just did the job he was paid to do in the beggining and he immensly respected thors, the guy that he killed. he cared for thorefin even though thorefin wanted to kill him, and above that he was just such a good leader, you look at this guy and you think 'yeah it makes sense why he has people following him and being under his lead'

Well almost everyone in the series can be looked at as a piece of shit in some way, so he doesn’t stand out too much as a bad guy. Plus he’s just so charismatic, and quite frankly understandable and relatable, especially due to the time. So I never found myself disliking him, regardless of what he did. And when he opened himself up a bit and got vulnerable, he became even more likable. RIP to King Askeladd
