THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Well, it's nice to see the idols hang out together outside of their usual school environment. Yuuki seems to be getting along with everyone too while enjoying the company.

Also got some character focus on Ai, which I think is cool. I wonder if this season will go on to show most of the cast's daily life style outside of school.

Quite the eventful episode for the week.

2 more new members enamored single-handedly by Setsuna-chan, she's been quite the successful attraction it seems lol. Interesting that we got to see a bit of "training" by the way.

Ai-chan, the sporty natural, gets the spotlight for this episode and it seems the red-haired girl, Emma, is next to follow. I'm starting to see a trend now.

Now we have the magical number reached and we still expect one girl more!
On first glance, this episode is about Ai Miyashita. But more important, this is the first time, when solo performances are discussed. So, there was much more happening than it is obvious in the first glance.
Good to see, that Kasumi and Setsuna are working together although they have other opinions just from the beginning.
As for Ai Miyashita: She doesn't really impress me. The best of her was her song. And speaking of the song, she is singing in a four time row the german "Hallo" instead of the english "Hello". You can clearly hear an "open a" and not a "close-mid e".

All in all, this is imho the worst of all episodes. But not bad.

Great episode, we get to meet Emma and Ai-chan today and they’ve already left an impression. Loved the karaoke scene where setsuna geeked out over one of her favourite anisongs being in the playlist.

Ending performance by Ai-chan was great too. Can’t wait for next week

Another great episode. This time a focus on Ai.
Loved her performance.

So Setsuna loves anime. Now that's something we all have in common with her.

Okay episode overall, didn't like it that much tbh.

Setsuna's attractor field is off the charts. xD

I like Ai-chan, she's cute, love her upbeat and positive personality. I like how she's known as the girl who goes around helping all the sports club.

Her conversation with Emma at the end was nice and helped her find her reason to be an idol. To have fun and help everyone have fun.

Performance at the end was pretty nice.

Eight members have already been together, and this is only the 4th episode! This show has been developing girls pretty fast!

To be honest, I don't like Ai Miyashita that much. She reminds me of Mika Jougasaki, who's a gyaru, and I'm not a big fan of gyarus in general. But she's actually pretty friendly to all her idols, and she helped both Rina and Kanata to do some flexing. At the end of the episode, Emma gave Ai some spirit, and Ai sang a pretty decent song at the end, though I'm not a big fan of her cheerleader outfit. Overall, I'd say this is a decent episode. It has it's moments.

Next weeks episode is going to be so exciting! My favorite girl Emma will be featured! I love her even way before this anime!

Good episode. I think the problem with being a solo idol is interesting and somewhat grounded. (Not like we had that sort of thing in SIP or Sunshine) It was nice to see Setsuna and Kasumi go over about that after their past conflict. As for Ai-chan, she is cute and high-energy and I appreciate her role in the group as a sort of positive influence. She is too punny lol. She had a nice performance just like the other girls, as expected of LL Nijigasaki.

Looking forward to Emma episode next week tho.

This episode tells all viewers that this series will take the different path compare to original SIP & Sunshine...now have already 9 members, solo idol stuff, each episode focus on each character...

Now wonder how they will develop the school idol club from now on...

(In other side, really missed all group members performance onstage/themestage for the new song on competing the LL competition & preliminary like in SIP or Sunshine, compare to just a member solo singing...but Niji is different, why not)

I'm pretty much anticipating that they will eventually announce a solo category for the LL competition. This isn't in the game (yet), so it isn't a spoiler.

Pretty nice episode as usual.

It's great to see them talking about being a different kind of "group" (no group) than the girls from SIP and Sunshine. Are they all going to perform solo? Or will some of them form duos, trios? Anyway, I'm really hyped to see what my anime of the season will bring next week.

Best episode so far, this spin off just keeps on giving

I love Ai-chan’s positivity, that’s exactly what the group needed. The anime is doing an excellent job at diversifying the characters. I love every single of them and can’t wait to see their future performances

And what? Solo idols? That’s quite the plot twist. I mean, this spin-off’s plotline was already different from the previous two, but damn I wasn’t expecting solo idols.

I’m so excited

It was... okay episode I guess.

Ai is not a bad and I like her character but at the same time her background felt a bit shallow.. I think.
Her song was classical genki type, not bad definitely but nothing groundbreaking.

Also, whole 'solo idol' thing was as artificial as it gets - it created problem where there was none. I understand they wanted to showcase the identity of idols but it didn't go well.

Well, I enjoyed the episode at least but not the best one (not the worst one either).

(subs were really off at times and I understand translators wanted to put their own creativity into those spell twisters but it fell flat. Also, Emma is from Switzerland but she uses italian words as her trademark not german ones - and she didn't really used any of those this time, just japanese word puns).

So far I liked Emma more in the game, her attitude seems different here. But let's wait for the next her own episode which is the next one.

"爱" is the most positive girl in the whole LL universum. She is always full with a positive attitude, she can cheer everyone up.

She even does the Birb T-pose.

And: Kasumi looks so cute with Setsuna's glasses!

Every Idol anime needs its own genki type of girl and Ai fits the role perfectly here. She's such a lovely girl and her upbeat attitude is quite contagious, I must say.

Another nice episode overall. The solo performing aspect being addressed took me a bit by surprise since I thought the girls would be forming a huge Idol group from the get go but guess I was making assumptions a bit too soon. Anyways, it was still interesting to see this aspect receiving some focus unlike in the previous LL installments.

Like numerous people in this thread, i too thought the episode was boring and found Ai to be a much more shallow character than i expected her to be.

That aside, does anyone happen to know if this building that appears at ~15:48 on the left is based on a real one? It has an interesting architecture.

google maps shows it indeed does exist and there's another odd shaped building next to it the show mainly just kept that one

not the most exciting episode but still decent we got are MAX genki character she was so genki i was half expecting something else to her

most interesting thing is them going with a plot of solo idols...which im a big fan of i know people love big groups but i tend to enjoy solo or duo-trio groups after that i gets too hard for me to make out everyone singing outside their solos lol

Yay, finally some more screen-time for Rina-chan now she also joined. I was waiting for this to happen. I'm pretty certain she's my favorite Nijigasaki girl.

It sure does show the anime so far is really trying to go into another direction. I like it so far.

Ai is my favourite of the new Nijigasaki girls, and I was so excited for her episode so others could see how great she is. However, this episode falls short in this regard and ends up being a disappointment for me.

Ai's conflict about the solo acts doesn't make sense for her character, since they set her up in the game and a little in the anime to be raring to go to do her own thing. It felt like they needed her to have some sort of conflict, and just threw something together. It also didn't really feel like an "Ai episode", but more of an all girls episode with more Ai and for some reason Emma. As for Emma, I don't get why they used her to help Ai, it would have made more sense for one of the second year's or Rina to help her, hell even Karin would have made more sense than Emma.

And how could they have left out the puns for so long!? That's literally what Ai is infamous for, and they used it as a plot device for the very end? In the game, you learn early on how much Ai loves and uses puns, and it helps set up her character for the player. They tried using how much she helps and her brightness to set her up in the episode, but it felt more generic if anything. I really wish she used puns from the beginning of the episode, or at least in episodes from now on, she has to be giving us more.

I will admit, her pun assault at the end of the episode and her song (which I think is arguably the best so far) redeemed the episode more for me to about a 7/10. But comparing to what we've seen so far, it's a big disappointment and missed opportunity in my eye's.

It's an interesting decision to insert the discussion about solo idols into Ai's focus episode, but given the kind of character she is I think it works well. She's been helping all the sports clubs in a more supportive role and initially has that focus in joining the idol club, rather than knowing what she herself wants to do with it. Using the solo idol discussion to propel Ai into a realisation about the kind of idol she can be worked really well. Beyond that, I liked Ai a lot and she's a strong candidate for best girl at this early stage of the series.

Looks like it'll be Emma's episode next week.

I really liked Ai already from SIFAS and like her in the anime too! Though I already knew from the game that this club would be soloists, it feels kind of forced- just because Setsuna feels like she can’t work as a group doesn’t mean NO ONE can work as a group...part of what I loved about Muse and Aqours was how they bring diverse personalities together and they make one cohesive group. And I feel like Ai, Shizuko, Emma, Rina, and maybe some others were uncomfortable being told they have to be solo? Like Ai’s episode was that she came to be to be part of a idol group and they tell her they’re not going to be a group and she debates whether she wants to stick with it? I’m not a fan of this direction overall. I like how they resolve this in Muse better, Nico tried and failed to be a good leader, and steps down for Honoka rather than saying no one can work together. Anyone else?

I really like your notion. To choose to be a group of solo idols is like choosing the easy way. Intead of facing their problems, thi si like building a lazy workaround.
But on the other side, we have Yuu. When my assumption of her role is right, she will form a groub out of these girls. But I think this will not happen until all girls will have their focus episode. And I think, the last focus episode will be the focus episode of Yuu, building a group out of all the girls.
It will not change the fact, that the Nijigasaki High school Club is solo focussed. They will not throw away the beginnings, but in the end we will have a group. I am sure, "Tokimeki Runners" wil be the last insert song!

P.S.: I have never played LLSiFAS. My mobile is too bad :( So I cannot use knowledge out of the game :(

In the game, the protagonist (whom Yuu represents) is the one who suggests that they go solo in the first place. And while she successfully ends up writing a group song, they never become a group for good.

Which makes me wonder what Yuu is even doing here. At first, it seems like she's mimicking her role from the game, being a driving force behind Nijigasaki's idol club, but in this episode she basically does... nothing of any importance, despite the importance of what's discussed here (and her game counterpart being the cause).

Doesn't help that the way it's done is pretty weak. In SIFAS, when the protagonist is like "if being a group doesn't work for you, maybe you should go solo", everyone's basically like "holy crap, that's a brilliant idea". But in the anime, they're more like "I guess it can't be helped." It's like they really don't want to do it, but have no other choice.

I also noticed how Yuu had almost no active role in this episode. At first, since SIFAS keeps adding new characters, I was wondering if there were plans to eventually integrate Yuu and even add her to the app as a formal character/give her singles. Still not sure what she's doing here though - if her role is truly just to be an audience surrogate, I'm not sure the anime even needed her to tell the story.

On that scene where they had different thoughts on what they want to bring on stage already tells everyone that they will enjoy working as solo idols. Yeah, you say they can still work around their differences but it's clear that they do enjoy having the freedom to do what they really want on stage.

I like Ai's performance. Energetic, cute and a good song this time. I like how this season its developing. I mean, Sunshine is more like a copy of the first love live: a girl that saw a performance, wants to create an idol club for save the school. A school president that don't like the idea, a pianist that is talented and a rival group that is good.

Btw, the performance of this episode:

We already know Setsuna is a great attractor since episode 1.

She DID attract Yuu and Ayumu, lol. If she didn't, Yuu probably won't have been here to solve all the problems and gather her School Idol Harem. (tho it seems like Yuu wasn't the one to solve the problem this time)

Ai seems interesting, she's basically the "Do Whatever" type cheer girl, LOL. Where she likes to go out and try out all kinds of things while being positive about everything.
