THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Mm, an episode about Cinnabar.

Unlike the others, it seems her body isn't normal and is harmful to others. Pretty graceful music this episode. I like it and the world fiction again. Not really impressed by the storytelling this episode but I think it has potential to improve.

I think they're giving each of the main characters time to shine for the first half of this show.

I love Dia's voice. It's so expressive and I think it fits her graceful personality. And the camera work during the encounter of the Snail Monster and her running through the field was so spot on. I can't wait to watch the new episodes.

I love how the "slug" is animated, it looks so fleshy. Diamond acrobatic scene was also great.

As an adaptation, while some parts are done well, others are a bit disappointing. Rant incoming for a couple of them.

In the manga the three looked at each others in disbelief. In the anime they were just there in the background, completely static, like someone forgot to animate them.

This was done so much better in the manga, imo. It's funny and not excessive, plus the blushing.

They could have use thid to redeem their depiction of mercury.

I'm starting to doubt the use of CG again, it doesn't allow them to do the abstract shots that was in the original, and also the dynamic interactions between the characters with themselves, or with the objects around them. Trade off I guess.

It might end up being one of those things fixed in the dvd, but it is kinda sad. They had added in a bunch of background events in the other two episodes too.
I haven't watched the episode yet, but I do hope the Ocean Arc will still be beautiful.

This is getting better and better! The style and tone of this anime is so smooth and cool. 9/10 anime
2nd AOTS for me!

The characters are all well done and the artstyle is superb. Like its top-class! The movements are well choreographed and their face reactions are really realistic-like!

Phos is a really funny and like able MC, glad to see her back, and arguing with snails.

Excited to see where the plot and story will head, that I think is still getting set up and will materialize sometime.

So Phos wasn't that slug after all. Everyone thought it was her and said she should stay that way. Diamond found out a way to save her by taking the pieces off the shell and piece it together. Phos came back to her regular self and it was surprising to know she understood what the slug was saying.

Phos is back, what a relief ;-;
Seems like this episode was more focused on developing Cinnabar and Diamond, less of a story focus.
Stunning CGI as usual, that scene at the end when Diamond was running to save Phos was breathtaking.
I hope the next episode will initiate a new arc and give the show another chance to tell the story worthy of these visuals.

I can respect this series now. I really love the change in dynamics in characters as well as how their personalities are all so unique. This was something I wasn't expecting to enjoy so much...definitely milestones better than another show this season that's trying to be episodic with the depiction of its cast and development *coughs*TwoCar*coughs* 5/5
Don't believe the hype.

Question for people who haven't read the manga. Were you able to tell straight away from the scene at the beginning of the episode, which shows the shell with green mark, that Phos became part of the shell?

EDIT: Ignore the earlier comment I made. I love the episode more and more after I repeat the scenes, the minor misteps can be overlooked.

Smoothest 3D animation I've ever seen, great pacing, story and characters.
I feel like the majority of idiots who rated this too early haven't seen the travesty that is BERSERK 2016/17.
This could take the top spot for most underrated show of 2017.

Oooo dude. What even is that animation anymore? Fucking hell, so good. o___O

It was so smooth and they are able to do fascinating fluid scenes with the CGI here, it's a joy to watch.

Dia giving Phos advice about changing while Dia herself wants to go through that. She's getting compared to Bort and now she found her ressolve, that was fantastic.

Whew.

Yep I did.

Then the snail was being all smart and I fell for it.
Until Cinnamon Bar went all "oh no that's not Phos, Phos is the shell" and I was like "I KNEW IT WHY DID I FELL FOR THE DECOY SNAIL??"

Wow what a truly stunning anime, the animation is so beauuuuuutiful i was crying and still am T_T 1)The fight 2)Dia's run 3)Phos pieces getting back together.
JUst oooh ahhh not to mention how sparkly the crystals, i truly have no words, AOTS, visual-wise at least. Also Dia is SOOOOOOOOOO PRETTY, she was shining even in the manga, but the way she shines in anime is just beyond anything imaginable.

Also big props to Kayano Ai for diamond, i even teared up a few times with her voicing diamond, i truly felt how much she was caring for Phos. I always loved DIa in manga for how carign and kind she is and it was even better in anime due to voice acting and animation too probably as i said im crying by how awesome it is T_T

Not gonna say im waiting for the next episode since its gonna be really interesting because every episode is amazing as we go on.... Im really glad i found a new favorite anime too

Not much action in this episode but it's good that they managed to get Phos back together, and they have a new pet which Phos can communicate with by the looks of it.

I want to see more interactions between Phos and Cinnabar in the upcoming episodes, Cinnabar seems to by pretty lonely out there.

wonderful cgi animation, compare it to the other animes right now who use cgi to cut budget doesn't do justice at all. kino and inu felt so annoying with the cg sometimes..

Finally watched ep 3.
I love it.
No seriously, I think this might be my favorite episode. They expanded so much on Dia's character
and literally everything about it was perfect.
The music during Dia's run was amazing, it felt like I was watching a ghibli movie kudos to JRSlayerOfRajang for making a video of it, . Actually, that entire scene of the gems rescuing Phos was great and I would watch it on repeat forever.

-dang this snail fight is cinematic af
-snail phos is kinda cute
-even as a fuckin snail phos is too fuckin great, jumping on morga like that
-poor phos, eternally bullied
-what the fuck were those pellet things
-dia's hair is super pretty
-wait was that not immediately obvious to anyone else
-also was the smaller snail not phos at all
-the acrobatics in this show are so fuckin gorgeous
-yeah this show really was missing something important when phos was out of commission

Like, the big revelation of the episode seemed pretty obvious when Diamond was talking about Phosphophyllite showing them the weak spot in the snail's shell. What's weird is that I actually believed them when they couldn't find any trace of Phos in the shell, and thought the green on the shell was some sort of red herring. Maybe it was because Diamond was the only one who noticed the weak spot on the shell, and Bort just followed up without noticing but something about it all just doesn't sit well with me. However, I did like how they showed pretty much everyone snubbing the chance to try saving Phos, aside from Cinnabar. That made it pretty weird when all of a sudden everyone was eager to get up in the middle of the night to pull up a big-ass snail shell from the bottom of a body of water. I kinda like Diamond a bit more for jumping through all those hoops, even if the snail wasn't even Phos in the first place. I'm really glad she's back, though. The show was pretty dull without her.

At least the visuals are still pretty good.

Bu-but they put in every bit of effort in that useless Dia running back home scene. So that makes up for it right? 😂😂

Dia really is pretty acrobatic though thats for sure. But Borts save sure was timely. To think that monster was actually just a mutated snail though that got dragged in by the battle though. That snail sure was hyperactive though. Good thing that Pho's was saved before being dissected though. Changing from within so that she can become a better person was an interesting idea. It looks like few had high opinions of Phos though but at least not all were negative. Still its nice seeing Dia work so hard to help her though. I guess of the gems i guess Pho's and Cinnabar would be the most alike. It was hearwarming seeing all the gems work together to pull the shell in and start rebuilding Pho's though. Well at least the slug wasn't phos though but im glad that she was rebuilt. Looks like Pho's gained the ability to talk to slugs then. But this sure was a pretty funny and light hearted episode though.

Dia's just nice to everyoe in general. He even kind of lament how Phos should be nice to people from dya to day, after all, they are immortal so they have to tolerate each others forhundreds of years at least. He also see abit of himself in Phos, because when bort is that good, he's doubting that he's of any use even though he's a diamond. Then there's also how Phos purposely threw away Dia's arm so that it didn't get swallowed, it was the thing he prioritised in that nick of a time. So Dia's pretty feel he's responsible and also thankful.

I know they're genderless and all but this bothers me, why use "He", "Himself", "He's"?

Despite the Japanese choice of words (which seems to be primary when it comes to genderless characters) they're all still 100% females in appearance
