THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Finally we got the biggest fight of the arc! Kamui V Gintoki. Animation did not disappoint! (too much flashbacks tho) Kamui went beast mode, really nostalgic from Kagura doing the same thing back in Housens arc. |

Finally we get Gintoki vs Kamui. That being said, this fight’s gonna be terribly hard for Gintoki since Kamui is ridiculously strong, even more than Housen apparently. But Gintoki is probably the most OP human in the Gintama universe, so yeah, he’s holding up pretty well. I mean, you must need ridiculous strength (and plot armor) to stop Kamui’s punches. But somehow, even Gintoki’s cheesy lines feel really badass here! What probably makes this fight stand out more is its creative choreography (like Gintoki jamming his sword in Kamui’s umbrella to break it, etc). Plus the fight itself it pretty brutal. Kagura tried to stop the fight, but it made Gintoki fall in Kamui’s blind spot. And we finally get Kamui going in his Yato mode. To think that out of everyone, it was Gintoki who made Kamui go this far. But yeah, Gintoki can’t beat Kamui anymore unless if everyone else helps. Finally Abuto gets to shine though (especially since they cut his monologue from the last episode). Kamui and Abuto always had a strong relationship, so them fighting is kinda a big deal I guess. Seems like Abuto’s not enough to make Kamui snap out of it… but I doubt Shinpachi can help. Or maybe he can, since he wrecked a good amount of Yato guys in the background during the Gintoki vs Takasugi fight. Shinpachi and Kagura’s teamwork is really cool. It’s cool how Sorachi tried to make Shinpachi do something for once other than yelling Kagura-chan, Gin-san in the background. And he did pretty well too. Ah, that Yorozuya team up against Kamui is so damn cool, alongside with Kagura’s monologue. Man, everyone’s wrecked up pretty hard, especially Kagura and Kamui. Seems like Kamui has given up and accepted Kagura’s strength. And after 180+ episodes, Kamui is finally a good guy (Maybe? Probably? Hopefully?). And the lengthy fight is finally over. The anime made me feel more emotionally impacted than the manga did for some reason (it's usually the opposite for me usually). Just as I predicted earlier, 5 chapters adapted (chapters 585-589). Easily the best episode of this arc. Seems like there’s two more episodes until this arc is over. Next two episodes should adapt 3 episodes each. 5/5 |

Wow, what an amazing episode. I got really hyped at the first half, and I almost teared up at the end. Gintama has such amazing characters, it is unbelievable sometimes. In honor of that, I want to comment on this episode character by character instead of scene by scene. First, the main character, best character of the best cast, Sakata Gintoki. Seriously, one of the greatest anime characters of all time. His fight with Kamui was amazing. The struggle, the pain was visible throughout the fight, and you could see that he kept fighting by sheer will alone (in fact, that was even stated in the manga by Umibozu, which was a great monologue, but I am not going to nitpick now). He fought and even beat (until he went crazy) a full powered Kamui, who was appearently even stronger than Housen. Even when Kamui went Berserk mode, Gintoki only got knocked out because he was trying to defend Kagura and took a direct hit. And even than he stood back up. Gin's durability and strenght never ceases to amaze me. You can see that he is taking a lot of damage after each hit, but he keeps standing back up. I love Gintoki's fights, Gintoki's fighting style is always great to see. That last hit on Kamui's face from Kagura's shoulders might be one of my favorite scenes in all of anime. Outside of being badass, Gintoki's words this episode were really really well written. He was really wise, and you could see that he didn't feel anger towards Kamui, he just felt bad for him. He tried to talk him out of going down a path that he himself almost went, if it weren't for his friends. I know I am fanboying, but I can't help it. ''I am Yorozuya Gin chan'', best line ever (and Sugita's delivery of that line was really imressive). It might be a bit surprising, but besides Gin san, my favorite in this episode was Shinpachi. His will to fight was amazing. I loved how he kept attacking Kamui, again and again. Like, he is not a Yato like Kagura or Abuto. He is not a durability monster like Gintoki. He is the weakest person on that area. He is the one who is most likely to die if he gets a direct hit even a single time. Yet he doesn't hesitate. Yorozuya = Best family ever. Also, I always loved his voice, which made that scene even more badass. And now to the best female character, Kagura (even though there are a few female characters in Gintama that I like just as much as her, I can't deny that she is objectively the best at this point). Other Shounen animes should really look at Kagura and take a few notes. Her fight with Kamui was amazing. Her and Shinpachi's combined efforts (plus the music) was great. Seeing her getting hit so many times was painful to see, but I also felt proud everytime she stood back up. The little Kagura with Kouka is probably the most adorable thing I've ever seen (and heard) in a long time. But my favorite part is definitely her resolve, and her love for her family (both of them). I love how she fought with everything she had, yet she was never really angry. Shows how much she has grown since the Yoshiwara arc. And as I said, I am a sucker for any family scene with Yorozuya, their relationship is probably one of my favorite things in Gintama. I know she didn't have many scenes in this episode but I also want to talk about Kouka a bit. We have only known her for 3 episodes, yet I still almost teared up at the end, when she was dying. I love every aspect of her character. Loving mother and wife, badass woman who fights monsters for fun, a brave person who would sacrifice everything, including her life just to spend a bit more time with people she loves. Then there is our ''villain'' Kamui. There isn't any character in Gintama that I don't like, so I always liked Kamui, but he was never one of my favorites until this arc. But now, I can honestly say that I love the guy. His backstory was really interesting. His pain, his anger over his mothers death felt very real. Even if I didn't agree with his reasoning, I still felt for him. That last line he had about his sister, about the Yato blood etc. was amazing. Even when he was beating them up, you could still see the love he felt for Kagura and Abuto, and even the respect he felt for Gintoki. That is not an easy feat, considering he was trying to kill them. I hope he will find his happiness now that the unresolved issues are mostly solved for him. And Abuto, a.k.a the best subordinate ever. This guy is the most loyal yet sassy subordinate ever. He was willing to attack Kamui and even die by his hands to stop Kamui. Not because he disagreed with his actions, but because he felt that Kamui wasn't doing what he actually wanted to do. Overall it was an amazing episode. The animation (while not on Gintoki vs Takasugi level) was great, the music was great. The impact of each attack was once again very effective. Gintama never disappoints (the studio sometimes does a bit, but let's not talk about that now). |

This episode felt awefully short. Very emotional stuff going on. I was close to crying during the whole second half. Also, the preview makes me wanna watch the next episode immediately. Oboro's past? Now that's something I definitely want to see. Seems like we'll get to see some more of Utsuro, too, which is really great. We still know very few things about him. |

Awesome episode man, I am still recovering from all the hype and emotional backlash. Still got chills. XD The action was crazy and just insane this episode, all that blood, all those broken limbs. Just epic. Too many epic scenes to list. XD The theme of strength, protecting and family was portrayed excellently throughout the fight, I just felt all the lines during the fight, all the flashbacks just flowed together really well and it was a real treat to watch. All those flashbacks as Gin and Kagura spoke were really nostalgic, heartwarming and very meaningful in context, couldn't help but smile and get a little emotional. Gin always has the best lines. Really glad that they finally got through to Kamui, deep down he has a soft spot for his family. :) The end with Kamui resting on Kagura's lap was great. I'm really at a loss of words, I don't know what more to say, everything was just amazing man. |

You just cannot describe this.It was epic beyond words.Gintoki vs Kamui is my 2nd favorite battle in the whole series since for me it's really difficult to top the Gintoki vs Takasugi fight.Gintoki once again showed his bottomless endurance and beat Kamui forcing him to go full Yato mode and even then he was able to keep fighting. Also the moments when Kamui was beating Kagura and Shinpachi and they kept fighting no matter what was pure awesome.Neither Abuto could stop him.Kouka's death was really emotional and her saying that the whole family is here nearly made me shed tears and as a person I don't cry easily.Let's hope for Kamui to give up his foolish goals.Next week,Oboro's past and probably more info about Yoshida Shouyou?WHY DO I HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER WEEK FOR THIS? :'( |

Wow. That fight in the beginning was so thrilling, although went straight to an emotional mood later on *tearing up* every time Gin-san got hit I was screaming. "Ore wa Yorozuya Gin-chan da" *crying a river* Gin-san never fails to amaze me, I can never praise him enough. But can we all agree that Abuto is such an awesome character? Not to mention, Shinpachi finally had some spotlight & showed how much stronger he'd become! But seriously this family fight breaks my heart especially when I see my beloved Kagura struggling to stop it T_T Next, Oboro's past & finally we get to see how Yoshida Shouyo came to be. HYPED AF! |

After all of that we finally get Kamui back. The last scene with him and Kagura really made this episode. Kagura can still find it in her to love her stupid brother, that's why I love her. |

Great comment, you said all of things what i want to say. Especially about Yorozuya family. I cannot wait for next episode. |

Awesome episode. Gin vs Kamui was brutal & insane. Unleashing his inner Yato instincts. Great to see Kagura & Shinpachi step in to help. Abuto such a great guy. Beautiful ending to the battle. Sad saying goodbye to Kouka. |

I think that the whole Gintama fandom just needs to be slapped back to reality and then back again into Gintama. I mean, holy lord! We're being accustomed to something unheard of; which sounds wrongly normal! To think that Gintama has reached such phenomenal levels in the arcs before; even the thought of approaching those levels once again is hard to imagine, let alone matching those on a weekly basis! I have never seen anything of this caliber, quality, and consistency. This is unreal. After Gintama finishes I'm definitely going to need a reboot button; unless I'm ready to bid anime and manga farewell. |

That was one goddamn emotional episode. The blend of Action and Emotions was so great this episode. I didn't know if I was supposed to be excited or watery eyed the whole time. Kamui is such a beast though. Taking on Gintoki, Kagura, Shinpachi, and Abuto. |

Kamui really is a complete powerhouse! It took Umibozu, Gintoki, Abuto, Kagura and Shinpachi to take him out!! Great team effort though, and I teared up a bit at that hug between him and Kagura. It was a long time coming. Animation was pretty insane too, so no complaints there! Next week we get a look at Oboro's past, and Takasugi vs. Oboro, which I'm excited for!! |

DAMMNNNN! this spicy crackers for making me all teary. BEST EPISODE OF THE ARC! kinda worried about the fast pace animation but BNP! you nailed this one! This episode is just so damn emotional! Gin's speeches are always well written but I just lost it when he said "I am Yorozuya Gin-chan" I had no words for Gin vs Kamui! it was beyond epic! Gin is the best older brother Dad Kagura could ever had! What a great conclusion to the fight! Kamui going berserk! the kid is truly a beast! Everyone had the chance to shine and fight! and you know this gonna be serious when shinpachi joins in. HAHA! A+ for shinpachis effort! as mentioned @Ginsukesan ^^^ already stated what should be said about the characters! very well said! In addition to that what I really love about this episode are the SIBLINGS! had to wipe a tear for moment there! Damn it! who's chopping the onions!??? Yes, Kamui's way of thinking doesn't always makes sense to me, but this boy just loves his mother so much that it pains him how he couldn't do anything about her sickness! he was just a boy! a kid! and bearing all that, I would've lost my freaking mind too. I never actually hated him, but since the yoshiwara arc he was just this blood thirsty monster or Kagura's edgy brother to me, However this arc proves me wrong! his redemption and character development is so satisfying, and I loved that that milisecond in the fight where Kagura blocked gin, kamui hesitated and I knew deep deep down inside of him he cares for kagura, and oh boy! I was right! Sorachi never disappoints! the ending oh men I had to stop myself from screaming KAMUI! in the neighborhood while holding back the tears because shit the last moment he said he's not losing to his blood anymore or to the boy he used to be was absolutely emotional and don't even get me started on the hug because I was already bawling my eyes out. Sorachi's a genius! I truly respects how he handles his characters. Now unto my favorite girl or possiblythe best shounen female character ever! Kagura. What can I say to the best girl? I'm just really proud of her growth! The fights was all the more painful for her, seeing her papi and brother fight, Umi slayed by Utsuro, Kamui beating her new family! but this girl is a rock! she's a tough girl! and she just couldn't give in! The way she blocked gin is just so beautiful, that I had to take a screenshot of it! HAHA! *BONUS! because I just love how she defends her two older brothers! She was so persistent all through out! and FINALLY she won! but ofcourse with the help of her best family (The Yorozuya) and also ABUTO, 300+ episode! this is what I've been waiting for ever since they've introduce Kamui at Yoshiwara and her fight in the shogun assassination arc. Seriously I'm just so happy right now that her family spat is finally over now I can peacefully die of happiness but wait it's not over yet! I had to see Oboro's backstory! Truly an outstanding episode. can't wait for the next ep! Also credits to the VA's! they're acting are so insane! really felt all the emotions! |

They went through all that torture just to make Kamui remember his name, could've just made him wear a name tag ffs. Kamui went to great length to forget his painful past, and even made it clear that he became empty by his own free will, but in the end he couldn't run away from his love for what remains of his family because Kamui IS a good boy at heart. So thank you Yorozuya for forcing him to accept that fact, because who you are is more important than who you want to be. Or is it the other way round? (←_←) Anyway such an emotional and intense episode, Kouka's death literally sent daggers to my chest, and Kamui, oh my son, the boy who loved his family too much it destroyed him to know it was that very family that killed his mother, rest easy little rabbit you're not lost anymore. In the end it was his will to become stronger that led him to surrendering, and thus, stronger he became. |

I have to say I'm not disappointed by the art in this episode. The expressions were extremely well done and there were hardly any hits with the flashy effect. Kamui was an absolute beast to beat. Took a handful of people to take him down but finally it was Kagura who really brought him to senses. Waiting for every chapter in the manga was a pain for this fight so quite glad that with anime, it can be put out into a single episode. Now I'll just rewatch the fight a couple thousand times. Can hardly wait for Oboro's backstory now, along with the small Utsuro backstory. This is by far my favorite part in the arc. Hope the anime absolutely nails the next episodes. Catching the atmosphere is very important. It worked great in the manga with the panels. |

Pretty good fight, though I'd have to say it was slightly too loaded with flashbacks and dialogue. |
“Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth. But the world isn't perfect, and the law is incomplete..." -Alphonse Elric "Then and now, what I protect has never changed!" -Sakata Gintoki I'll take anything like The Pet Girl of Sakurasou. Anything as good as that. |

Great ep, I loved the fact they used Housen's theme in parts. Set the mood fantastically. Also flashbacks are better to save budget than crappily animated scenes, imo. Next fight was mostly offscreen in the manga (from what I recall, perhaps wrong) so I'm really interested to see how they adapt it. Everything has really picked up in this season after Utsuro's arrival, I hope they continue it. |

Stunning episode O.O. This fight was just too perfect! Gintoki's moves and speeches vs Kamui were so great. I loved how he broke the umbrella using the pommel of his sword. Gintoki is really the best, he even won his fight vs normal Kamui thanks to his will. His lines of dialogues were well written and they showed how Gintoki was friendly towards Kamui. He was not there to kill him, but help him. Beautiful fight. The second part were also amazing, especially when Shinpachi and Kagura were fighting. The level of determination used by Shinpachi to always attack a Yato like Kamui was astonishing. Great great scenes. And finally we ended the episode on a beautiful scene between Kamui and Kagura. It was hard to don't shed manly tears. I'm so happy that Kagura finally retrieved his brother :). The mind progression of Kamui was well done. Sorachi, you are clearly the strongest man of Gintama |

Thought it was so awesome. There was a part that was perplexing to me. It was after Gin gained the upper hand on Kamui, and was going in for "kill shot"...then they panned to his "surprise" face, along with Shinpachi and Kagura...then he just stopped, and Kamui just walked up to him and gave him an uppercut. Ive watched this multiple times now, and it seems as if they either missed a scene, or a line of dialogue. It's really the only time I remember saying "they effed up there" I understand that he was probably exhausted, but it didn't look right. Phukkitt said: Even though I prefer the comedy side of Gintama, some of the serious bits in the past have still been pretty good, but these last few episodes with Kamui have just been horrible. And by that I mean horribly boring, predictable and cringe-worthy. Especially this bit with Kagura looking like she's howling at the moon while also vibrating: http://i.imgur.com/eSMrbsj.gif Almost felt like just stopping the video there and giving up on Gintama completely. I disagree with most everything you said...but one thing I do agree with, was Kagura's "howl". It looked weird and out of character, and wasn't even necessary. Other than that it was fantastic as usual |

Great episode. Fight was spot on. I guess Gintoki can't handle Kamui in a 1 on 1 fight. I'm sure he would put up a fight if he used an actual sword. Loved the sibling moment in the end. Curious to what Kamui will do from here on out. |

This episode is epic beyond words. Teared buckets also. Honestly, Gintama is the only shounen anime that I know of which gave me this insane mixture of emotions while watching this episode and this and the other serious arcs throughout the series. Sorachi has a unique mangaka talent of eliciting very powerful emotions from his readers as well as among his characters. GangsterCat said: this is probably the worst episode so far, not funny and overdramatic. i hope saiki come soon. I hope you're just trolling. And I'm a fan also but Saiki is nowhere near Gintama. |
