Oh the drama continues~

Manaka was cute as usual but still prone to running and saying "I"m sorry". Oh and that fishknee is gone! Now, there's a twist and the ending too.

Decent episode. The theme was heavy, but it didn't go dark thanks to the well-balanced execution and cheerful characters. Interracial marriage must be a touchy issue. Curious to see how they are going to deal with it.

Visual was impressive as always.

Hikari managed to insult himself by accident at the start there.

So (correct me if I'm wrong here) Akari claimed they split up but really she's still meeting with the guy. And he has a daughter. Who wants them to split up, and whose friend likes to attack Hikari.

I had a feeling Tsumugu had an ancestor from the sea. He was talking about himself when he mentioned children between the two not having ena.

If everything goes well with Akari and her lover we might get to see an interracial patch-work family at the end.

Hikari's showing first signs of growing up and I suspect it's only going up from this point as he begins to look behind the facades and not let himself to be guided by prejudices anymore, though I suppose it will take some more time until he really develops into a mature adult.

Kihara's grandfather looks to be a person from the sea? I guess that means one of Kihara's parents must have been a person of the sea and the other from land. And since his parents probably died his grandfather decided to stay on the surface and raise him. ^_^

This is really the best series that isn't a sequel this season I can't wait to see what happens next!

Glad to see some character development. People still think Hikari is annoying but I thought he developed quite nicely this episode. If it continues, then I won't have any issue with him.

As expected from Okada Mari...
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

He's improved noticeably already, yes. But he's still a long way away from stopping being annoying.

Great to see Hikari lighten up a little after getting thrown. Also enjoyed seeing Tsumugu laugh at Manaka's fish impression. It's nice to see some emotion from him. And I'm glad that he's slowly getting closer with the group.

Lol at the little girl trying to knock Hikari out with a plain handkerchief. Akari's guy has a kid?! I wonder why she doesn't want them together. I'm anxious to see what happens next, but I hope it all works out with Akari and the guy and that they end up staying together.

I was so close to exiting my tab when Hikari, a 12-13 year old highschool boy, was beating the crap out Akari's boyfriend. The fisherman should've done more than just flip him. He's a kid and all but it's not normal for kids to be so pissed off ALL the time.

Because of the way he acts I don't feel any sympathy for him even when the show is trying to tell me I should like when he realizes the life Akari is giving up for Hikari by abandoning her dream as a mangaka and her romantic endeavors

Good episode.

Hikari acted quite childish at the beginning with the punching bit...etc
But thankfully he's starting to show signs of growth. Nice to hear his monologue too.
It makes him a bit more understandable.

Tsumugu is a really nice guy. Glad he's already becoming friends with them. I'm liking his Grandpa? And nice seeing that he has Ena...opens more doors for his story. No wonder he knows a lot about them. Since one of his parents were from the Undersea.

It seems Akari's problem won't be solved that easily, now that Hikari got involved with the guy and his Daughters O_o? Didn't expect that one XD

Felt bad for her crying though :(...And the hug with Hikari was pretty emotional.
Lol @ Forbidden Wincest being the last resort XD

Still liking Chisaki and Kaname the most though. Lol'd at
Hikari: "U're taste in men sucks"
Kaname: "True"
Poor Chisaki. At least he apologized at the end ^^

Hikari's really developing. I can't wait to see how he turns out. Still rooting for him x Manaka, and even more so if he learns to correct his flaws.

I'm not sure what the purpose of the sandy-haired boy is though. He seems very extra. I hope Tsumugu also displays a more human side of him, since right now I see him as a very stiff character. Chisaki is OK, but not really likeable IMO.

The story's gonna take a sad turn if Hikari lets Manaka develop more feelings for Tsumugu, but I hope Manaka realizes that Hikari's earnestly trying to grow as a person for his family and friends and learns to like those qualities of him. Tsumugu's OK but I see their relationship more as impulsive feelings on Manaka's part. Hopefully those will disperse soon.

I liked how he tries to think more about the issues at hand now, as well as his anger towards Manaka and when he snapped at Chisaki in the last episode. Of course he still has anger issues and is impulsive, but he will grow up eventually. Not everyone can be mature and not annoying when they're young. Despite the hate that he seems to be getting, I like him a lot (even if he is frurstrating at times), he reminds me of my little brother. I'm also glad that Manaka is developing as well, instead of running away and crying, she actually learned that she shouldn't be lying to Tsumugu about the fish knee curse, and it even turned out way better than she thought, she got Tsumugu to laugh and open up! Everyone seems to be friends now too, too adorable, made me smile seeing them playing with each other, especially Hikari and Tsumugu.

I had my suspicion about the grandpa when I caught a glimpse of his faded blue eyes a few times. No wonder he was so nonchalant when he and Tsumugu caught Manaka in the first episode. And no wonder Tsumugu cares about the sea village so much :( So he's basically 1/4 of the sea people race...and he's jealous of them who have "ena". I'm glad he and Hikari talked a little, so from then Hikari really understood that Tsumugu isn't a bad guy at all.

We finally see the reason why Tsumugu is interested in the sea and the sea people so much. His grandpa is a sea person. Just not sure if that is the real reason but I assume it is.

Hahaha, Manaka finally revealed that the curse is lifted already. I am seriously loving Tsumugu way better than Hikari, even if he is developing he is still an annoying kid.

The final seconds of the episode sure have thrown a curveball.

I will admit I had doubts about this series at the start with its prospect of love polygons and melodrama but so far I really like the way this show is unfolding. Both Hikaru and Manaka are the main contenders to receive major character developments at this point with both of them opening up to foreign affairs and coming out of one's shelf respectively. A promising coming-of-age story about teenagers struggling with romantic disarrays, racial discrimination and archaic traditions.

It's about time someone put that douchebag Hikari in his place. You don't beat the shit out of a nice, innocent man just because he dated your sister. I only wished that Hikari got the shit beat out of him too instead of being knocked out because of a single throw.

Nice explanation about why they don't want sea people and land people marrying.

One thing that's bothering me though- is their sea village the only sea village in the world? They haven't made any mention of another one and the sea god lives in their village, which makes it seem like its the only one around, but that doesn't really make any sense to me.

Woah a cliffhanger appeared.

I understand disliking Hikari since he can get pretty annoying, but I don't see how anyone can "like" Tsugumi. There's nothing to like or dislike about him, the dude's got the personality of a cardboard box. Up until he laughed, he might as well have blended into the background for all the personality he'd shown.

My favourite episode so far. Really good blend of subtle moments, drama and character development. I actually enjoy Hikari's character, because I can relate to him. I was pretty immature at his age. Really looking forward to next week.

Also, definitely one of the strongest EDs this seasons in terms of music. Animation is not bad as well.

Melodrama seems to be Okada Mari's forte, and I agree that I was also a tad skeptical about the love polygon. I'm glad it's not just an anime with cute characters and focuses only on romance, but like you said, it's a coming-of-age story, along many other things. If Okada Mari doesn't pull out too much melodrama (I would perfer none) and make it just the right amount of drama, then it looks like it will be one of my favorite for this season. I also hope that the other characters (Chisaki and Kaname) will get some spotlight too.

I didn't necessarily dislike Hikari before, but now that we've gotten some info on his childhood, it's not that far-fetched that he's so angry. His mom died and his sister has been holding herself back for his sake even though he clearly never wanted her to. People have developed anger issues from much less, so it does make his character at least somewhat believable. He took a pretty big step forward this episode, but still certainly has quite a bit of room for development which I look forward to.

I just hope the ratio of antagonizing him for development vs attempts to make us empathize with him doesn't get away from the balance it's established so far.

That last development should certainly add a nice new dramatic element, which I fully expect P.A. Works to capitalize on.
