Oishii Kankei Chapter 55 Discussion

I know the mangaka was getting desperate to somehow get her “OTP” together, but this was such a terrible, goodwill ruining of going about it.

So far, though naive and childish, Momoe hasn’t gone out of her way to harm others. She even continued with her toxic relationship with Hibino, out of goodwill. It makes no sense that she was willing to be a homewrecker like this.

People are upset with Kanako, but her character is one of the most realistic ones in the manga. She’s grown up in a dysfunctional family, abandoned by all whom she loved. Her own father abandoned her mother. Her mother went crazy.
Stuff like that, it leaves a mark. She has serious trust issues, abandonment issues, and self sabotages her relationships. Her arguments with Oda were so realistic. I’ve seen so many relationships play out like that in reality. Ultimatums, insecurity, possessiveness, threats, constant tests with their partners, inability to believe that they can be loved. I think Kanako’s character showed all these traits with realistic depth. If it was reality, her relationship would’ve fallen apart because of her own insecurity. In the manga, that’s what happens. I just hope she finds Someone who loves her warmly and unconditionally. Oda was not the right choice for her. Their relationship was actually mature and nice initially, but it’s like they were two yin (cold) characters.
The moment Momoe confessed to Oda, he should’ve realised that Kanako wasn’t totally off base.

See Momoe was essentially “orbiting“ Oda for a good half of a decade. As a gf that’s unnecessary headache.

Momoe “air fisting” their breakup, was cold, heartless, and unlike her. Mangaka should’ve extended similar courtesy to Kanako, like Hibini did.

@SaikaEternal I'd say that Momoe was realistic as well. There are women who will orbit around your man and make up any excuse to hang around him. If you're ever in the mood for it, watching the first one or two seasons of the show "Insecure", is a great idea. "Bit Titty" Tasha is the Momoe of that show. She knows that Lawrence has a girlfriend, and yet she keeps orbiting around him. She was always just at the mall when he was there, so "might as well just eat lunch with you since we both just happen to be here! 😀". He called her out when she went into his job looking for a product, and it was clear that she was literally just there to see him.

@SaikaEternal I just read it. I wanted to fully finish this manga before reading your review, to avoid spoilers.

I honestly think it could've been a great manga if Oda and Momoe didn't end up together. I think it would've been a better story for her to get over her crush, and Oda could've been salvaged as a character if he and Momoe were platonic. Because, and I've said this in another comment of mine, now that he's with Momoe, it pretty much screws his character. For one, that implies that he was lying to and gaslighting Kanako the entire time. When he claimed that he didn't love Momoe and that she was being ridiculous. It meant that she was right in her suspicions... Which once again, has terrible implications for Oda since he gaslit TF outta her. Plus he started lying to Momoe in the end... Which could've been interesting. It would've been a lesson and Karma for Momoe, if her and Oda's relationship took the same dark path as Kanako and Oda's relationship.

Then Momoe could've moved on and gained independence.

@LuxuriousHeart I don’t mind Oda and Momoe dating, as long as there’s an end to the old, for unconnected reasons, and a new realisation that fuels it.
His assurances to kanako mostly stemmed from his being blinded by love. Sometimes we’re with incompatible partners but we literally refuse to accept it, and do not notice more compatible suitors.
And yea I totally agree that in the canon version, Oda and Momoe should never have ended up together and/or it could’ve gone dark, since he turned into a pathological liar.
But I remember the early chapters, when Oda was a bull headed, but honest and straight forward person. Momoe was naive and wore her heart on her sleeve. Kanako was an ambitious corporate woman who was calculative, but not bad. Later on their characters went hay wire.
