I'll admit, I was with Asai. My very first thought was, Kurosawa seems really happy. He swung that bat at Inada with a big smile on his face and blissfully ordered his food after intimidating the restaurant. Asai took it a step forward and compared him to a wild animal which to be fair was the truant fathers conception of freedom. He's not worried about what people think of him, he doesn't seem to have an ulterior goals, and he's certainly stepping out of society's expectations of him... His first time with this group at a family restaurant he claimed how he didn't like being a single man in that environment and he was feverishly reserved until he got into a drunken fit and then he went to the bathroom where he drunkenly worried this may be all luck, a day that comes and goes. Here he came in completely disregarding what the place was, what people thought of him, and he sat down with a big smile on his face. Like he was living the best life he could without care for what anyone had to say, like Inada said, it's admirable in a weird way. It didn't seem like he was vying for his friends appreciation and he certainly wasn't worried about scaring them off.

Maybe having his life constantly in danger was the best thing for Kurosawa. Like Nakane said he acts when others give up or run away, when he's forced to act he does without hesitation, without fear, without nothing. He just does. He's true to himself in those moments. Not trying to fit in with society or his own expectations whether it comes out in a good or bad nature. Maybe, just maybe the fact that he's always in danger means he's always in this state? He's gotten used to dealing with life or death situations with hardly any complaints, he's gotten good at fighting and fleeing. His first thought outside of smiling at those pretty girls was to scope out the restaurant, intimidate the customers as to not strike him, and then demand he gets a seat where he can view the door to protect himself. It seems to me that this is true. It's as if comparing him to a wild animal is the perfect descriptor, perhaps as if Kurosawa has tapped into a life of the most visceral idea of 'living', to feel alive with your life on the line.

I also liked Inada's words, "Nothing comes from nothing!"
