French combat maids!! =D

Again, Ryoko killed two birds with one stone, heh. Looks like she'll go all out in the next episode, can't wait.

For some reason this ep felt kinda short... but it was ok, I guess. Izumida admitted that he's fine with being Ryoko's subordinate - nice. He's such a tsundere. And who doesn't love maids?

Maids seem to understand japanese but are not capable of speaking in it, right?? It felt somewhat awkward in some incidents such as at the end of the episode... Anyways, it was the first time it couldnt meet my expectations, but well, its stiil good, liked this episode ^^

Hmmm we can clearly see that the original dialogues in French are perfectly written in the script, the sentences are both fluid and very appropriate to the contexts (either formal or familiar but always very relevant). Well actually that was the first time I saw any French language used so perfectly in an anime, even the voice actresses tried their best to actually sound French (they most of the time did not but they tried to at least, in the end they just sound like women speaking French with a very heavy Japanese accent but it's quite understandable without subtitles). The fansubbers were confused though by the use of a language other than Japanese, because when Lucienne says "Salut!" at the end of the episode, it actually means "Hello!" and not "Bye bye!".

Apart from my little French course, this episode was a bit too "déja vu" for its own good and was not the best of the series, if not the worse. Oh and we know that the main theme of the anime is politician corruption and carreerism (that was already a good part of Legend of the Galactic Heroes by the same author) so they don't have to spend half of the episode reminding this to us...

On the other hand, I still like the atmosphere and the characters so much that it doesn't really matter and I'm pretty sure it will get better in the next episode.

So Ryoko doesn't just have maids, she has /attack/ maids? Lulz. Good episode even if there were some rather awkward parts. It was well written, but the transitions and the way it flowed seemed off, especially in the last half of the episode. Not to mention the action was a bit over the top for my tastes. Still, putting those complaints aside I enjoyed it a good deal.

I'm pretty sure "Salut" can be used both as a greeting and a parting. For some reason, the giant salamander looked cute to me. Is it just me?

I would seriously like to have the maids treated as real characters, not as scenery.

These are highly skilled women, who for no apparent reason are also willing to work as maids. Is this just bad writing, or will it later be revealed that the "maid" job is a cover and there's someone else doing the real house-keeping? The way they spoke in unison seemed ridiculous to me. Did the director think it would help to conceal their Japanese accents? (Is it really that hard to find two French women living in Japan for a year, willing to do some voice acting work?)

The scene where they put on maid costumes to plant a bug seemed absolutely unnatural to me. It's as if the producers insisted that the audience wanted maids, and the writer hated the idea, so he had one of the bad guys say,"I don't understand why people like this maid fetish."

I hope the anime gets back to themes of corruption. They've already had a giant snake and a giant salamander. I'm presuming they'll have a giant spider and a giant ant before they get tired of the "giant icky animal" theme.

Yes that's correct. It's like a simple 'Hi' when you meet and 'Bye' when you leave.

Hollywood is just as bad, if not worse, than this. They can get middle eastern people to play the parts of terrorists in movies, but when it comes to a movie set in the middle east, the hero often looks peculiarly white... Plus, to a normal japanese resident, would their accents sound that bad?

Hollywood repulses me to the point that I started a serious boycott of Hollywood movies in 2001. I drifted to Japanese movies, then to anime. I still don't watch Hollywood movies.

It's kind of shocking to me that a low-budget animation with voice actors from Japan manages to suspend my disbelief better than all the million-dollar budgets, CGI, and stars in Hollywood.

Me too! I was afraid it was just me... but when it looked at me with those cute little eyes, I hoped that Ryoko would save the poor critter. I'm glad she did. Hooray for saving poor ickle monster creatures.

Was I the only one that found it funny that one minute they're all standing face to face in front of the giant salamander and the next their all on some scaffold up in the air blowing holes in the walls? lol Things happen to randomly for me. I've noticed this in a few of the past episodes too. The characters will be in the middle of somthing and then the next scene their totally in a different location without even showing what happened in the middle. I guess in a way its good that they cut right to the chase though.

Really bad episode, definitely the worst so far. Had continuity flaws and the story itself was stupid. Not to mention that I had to go through the torture of listening to incredibly awkward and bad French. Also, as it was mentioned, Salut means both hello and good bye, but in the context of where it was used it should have been hi.

I found the French quite terrible... Well, the accent at least. The sentences were actually fine but whatever. And yes, as has been mentioned, the "Salut" should have been more like a "Hi there~" or "Hey~" (her tone when she said it sounded playful and predatory? XD).

Hmm I thought it was an oookayyy episode but it felt like it was lacking something. The salamander was cute though. And Izumida said he was satisfied working under Ryoko. Okay, I suppose I'll just be content with that~ Plot-wise though? Kind of boring...

Did Yoshiki Tanaka really write a story about french attack maids? I think a part of me just died, LOL.
