THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
"I'm not going to go easy on you guys if you ruin the show right from the start" - TV Producer.

The premise behind this show is so damn awesome, it almost physically hurts to see it handled badly. The episode isnt bad, but I would have liked to have seen the pivotal moment where the cadets decide to go to war, depicted in a more tense and dramatic manner than what we got, which was like a bunch of roomates deciding on where to do the weekly shopping, it was so mundane.

Would have liked to have seen what the hell was at risk too, show us why they're going to war, a bit of context, you know?

The exterior space shots are too plasticy and Kenji Kawai's music is almost nonexistent.

Only good thing I can say is the TV studio's influence on the ship, adding in sound effects and wanting an all female bridge crew.

"For a first episode...that was so-so" - TV Producer.

Yeah, pretty much. :(
"I'm starting to think mal is run by Xinil generating electricity on a bicycle." - idklol

i agree with you there. the transition from being cadets to star ship operators was done stealthily and quickly.

they are pretty much going against an entire empire. not only that, the enemy knows their every move. for them to make such a decision so hastily this episode had some major issues.

All it would take would be a few words from Mamiko Noto to make me feel all warm inside. <3

That was pretty....weird.
Im disappointed.

The screenshot (Generally all I ever look at before watching an anime) looked so much more fun then what I got.

Average start so far. I'm not liking any of the characters tbh. And oh, they're college girls. Hope to see some decent antagonists though.

Despite this, I reckon the show will be enjoyable enough.
The ship designs are... interesting.

I liked this episode; it at least had the sense to point out that a partisan operation funded by a reality show means the enemy can simply tune in for intelligence, and that sound effects in space are added for the audience's enjoyment.

I wonder if this was at all influenced by the embedding of reporters with US units in Iraq in 2003 or 2004 or so before they stopped. The reporter lady must be insane to be physically present in a situation where the opponent has a good chance of destroying the ship. Looking back from 2018, a contract stipulating content made by the crew or a 24 hour livestream seem like the way it would go.

The first chapter is not bad. It is surprising how some cadets have destroyed such a powerful ship, at the same time that their plans were supposedly being broadcast live.

An example of a zero-sum game. The guy who had the whole great idea of buying the ship, then turns out to be a panicking captain. I expected a lot from him. But on the other hand, the protagonist has gained as much importance as he has diminished. He could have been otherwise.

The producer thing is curious. I wonder if there will be any betrayal on the part of some crew-member.
