Russian accents were a little funny. Them aside I loved this one.

There's something very compelling about children who, although they try to do good, are driven by the systems and factions of adults to drift apart. It's a pretty common story, and this one episode did it better than a lot of full shows.

Keaton got eat up, lol.

Great ep. Probably the most tragic one yet.
"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

How far we can stray from our ideals and dreams.

Might this be the first episode Keaton's been so beat? Twice in a row too. The episode had quite an atmosphere of the time, but it's a shame that we're once again resorting to all these backstory confessions.

Interestingly, the next story seems to be about three (childhood?) friends as well

Damn Keaton got his ass handed to him...well it's kinda nice to know he can't beat everyone.

The overall story reminds me what eventually madhouse could tell something like this later on (Gungrave). Just should had been longer otherwise thought this was pretty interesting episode too..

It's a nice little story, but there's no way in hell Soviet pioneers would act this way (confessing to a teacher, drinking vodka).

true, soviet schoolboys ('pioners') would never do that lol especially this young
weird surnames were distracting too, and these full official names "Nikolai... Mikhail..." - friends can call each other like that only to fool around
but overall a good episode, i enjoyed the animation so much in this one
see you, space cowperson . . .
