I get why the crew was concerned about Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji’s wellbeing, but they’re forgetting the badassery that is the future Fifth Emperor of the Sea. He wouldn’t die in such a way, especially because he’s gonna become the King of the Pirates. Nothing will get in his way of that. Caribou really thought he was gonna pull some 9,000 IQ plays and kill Luffy’s crew, but Franky isn’t an idiot, so you’re gonna have to just give up on that. You can’t slip your way out of this one. LUFFY COMES IN THE CLUTCH BY MAKING THE KRAKEN HIS PET TO KICK WADATSUMI’S ASS, WHICH IS NOW NAMED SURUME (WHICH APPARENTLY MEANS DRIED SQUID)! BRO IT’S JUST…. HOW MUCH BADASSERY CAN WE TAKE?! HE’S JUST SO AMAZING AND WONDERFUL THAT I CAN’T FULLY COMPREHEND IT ALL! Then we see the New Fish-Man Pirates consisting of Hammond, Fighter, a Pike Conger Fish-Man, Hyouzou, Assassin, Blue-Ringed Octopus Merman, Kasagon, Fighter, and more trying to force the Straw Hats to join them. Nami is smart enough to know that Luffy bows down to NOBODY! GET THE FUCK OUT OF LUFFY’S WAY BEFORE YOU GET YOUR ASSES KICKED! One Piece is just so amazing. I can’t wait for more!

Bruh I forgot how cute and horrifying Surume's laugh can be. πŸ’€ It's like he has a sound quality of his own, separated from everyone else.

A great episode this time around.
No pacing issues, no editing issues, only a few drawings were off. They really improved starting from the 4th episode.

I don't remember that there was so much of the story before we got to Fishman Island, but even in the re-edit, there are so many things. It feels dragged because of the content rather than the pacing. I didn't expect it to take this many episodes to get to Fishman Island.

Some of the creatures in the deep sea were inspired by real-life sea creatures so that was good to see. The Straw Hat shenanigans are always worth it, and this episode was full of them too. Caribou being big-mouthed as always. The Sanji gag falls flat every single time, but I guess we can't do anything about it after all. Usopp and Franky get things to do too. Anyways, Surume joins the crew xD

The way they build up Van Der Decken sounds so intimidating, yet I have totally forgotten him from the first time I watched this arc.
Good to see the Sea Monsters being just as intimidating as always. Now, we're finally introduced to the New Fishman Pirates, we're close to Fishman Island finally!

Surume coming in clutch! The main reason they made it to Fishman island.
Wadatsumi's voice is WAY different than how I imagined it to be while I was reading the manga. Holy shit it's so high 😭
"Pirates are Evil? Marines are righteous? These terms have always changed throughout the course of history! Kids who have never seen peace and kids who have never seen war have different values. Those who stand at the top determine what's wrong and what's right! This very place is a neutral ground! Justice will prevail you say? Of course it will! Whoever wins this war becomes justice!" -Donquixote Doflamingo

Worst episode so far and it has nothing to do with Toei. Oda was just going way too slowly and goofy for this return post-timeskip, he forgot to add some suspense on top.

I also HATE this bullshit excuse about how the Straw Hats can't go outside the ship cause they'll die from the pressure. It is waaaaaay too late for that kind of realistic physical to stop any of our monstrous crew members. If every single fishman and merman from the fodder to the babies can survive in this, then so can the Straw Hats. It's impossible to believe. One of the worst parts of this arc. Every single member from Nami and Ussop to Zoro and Luffy can swim in these waters. It's absurdly low level writing from Oda.

I know the fanboys don't wanna hear it but it's true. Oda's not perfect and neither is One Piece.

this overall seems to be a supercut of the original anime and it feels weird because there is no continuity in the scenes, they cut randomly and theres no natural flow, also they are still on the ship for like 1/4 of the episodes run, i kinda forgot but wonder how it will fit the fishman island unless they increase the supercut even more, clearly doesnt fit well

Finally the pacing is no longer a fever dream. The constant cuts to full-faces and close-ups that destroys the sense of scale and depth in the literal open deep ocean is still an issue, but sadly that can't really be mitigated if the production only has access to the poorly-storyboarded OG material. Editing has certainly improved the watchability, but this is still a far cry from a "proper" adaptation of the source material, ultimately being hampered by the inevitable deficiencies in the original un-revised haggard series.
