Mystic King is the funniest card. I absolutely adore the flavor of losing the game if you lose your king, but it seems woefully understatted at only 13/13 to have that kind of drawback attached. Especially if Shion decides to randomly shave 5 off herself, y'know?

I did like this episode a lot, though. Tsubasa taking a more active role for a change makes me like her a lot better already. She just suits taking action far more than having people have to come to her.

I have no idea how anyone can turn down Shion. When she is the embodiment of cute. I've come to appreciate her personality specifically how she sways from confident to shy at the flip of a dime it plays in into her imposter syndrome I believe. It was also great to see Shions deck back in action, and to witness the revealment of the Mystic King (M.K..Ultra?) who btw has such a cool design, color scheme and unfortunate last words skill.

Btw does anyone know what clan Shions deck belongs too?

Edited to sound less hyped *

This two-part episode was alright, but I personally didn’t appreciate the PSA about “hikkikomori” (or whatever Shion really is) who hide behind digital avatars, and how we can’t force them to do things they don’t want to do. I don’t know about anyone else, but it brought down the entire episode for me, and nearly brought down the entire series; I briefly considered dropping the show because of it.

In any case, what we seem to have here is a case of “Status Quo is God…for now”, with the next episode (almost) acting as though this one never happened. As for Tsubasa thinking that she and Shion got “a little closer”, I have to disagree with her, unfortunately. Tsubasa doesn’t know that, and neither do the viewers, despite what Shion’s “smile” might suggest.

Look, it doesn’t matter if you live in Japan, or anywhere else in the world. People came for Shadowverse, not to be lectured on subjects like this. To put it in perspective (and to make a long story short), I wish there could/would/should have have been a better way to reveal “Lady-and-Gentleman”’s true identity that didn’t involve so much drama…

You sound like you have some personal hangups, friend. We have no reason to believe these three didn't grow closer because of this experience, and also, Tsubasa was actually being a good friend for a change by pointing out Shion isn't as alone as she thinks she is. I didn't see this episode as a lecture at all, and also, stories are at their best when they have something to actually say. The first show didn't have a creative lick in its DNA and it showed, making for an exceedingly shallow experience. This one is trying to have some actual character writing, and it's doing Flame some good.

Even something as "mature and edgy" as YGO 5D's has morals in its early episodes. When Yusei's talking about how no card is worthless, he isn't literally just talking about the YGO cards. It's a metaphor for the people from sattelite as a whole, who are looked down upon like trash from the city. None of them are worthless individuals, and this extends to real life too- everyone has value, discrimination bad. You're still getting "lectured" whether you like it or not; it's up to you to ignore the subtext or not.

In the same way, it's very easy to not read the specific subtext you chose to read into this and just see the episode as "Ren and Tsubasa got curious about who Gentleman was and grew closer to Shion as a result!"

Do you REALLY want her to just show up the next day without the gentleman avatar? Gentleman is a whole character by himself, real identity or not, and it'd be wrong to just abandon him outright because one episode had the real person battle one time. Both can and should exist, and she clearly still wants to use him- evidenced by how she summoned him pretty much immediately around Tsubasa and Ren. The only reason she had him go away again was because the two of them weren't taking her seriously, which she seemed to really hate.

TLDR; Speak for yourself, friend. I absolutely am here to get "lectured" on this, Japan or not.

Admittedly, its strategy is very sword-like. Aggro with a bunch of tokens is kind of Sword's entire thing.

I was thinking the same thing. When Shion summoned Mystic King I couldn't wait to see what the effect was but just summoning two Pawns is very underwhelming... Magical Bishop can do that better since it summons a Pawn for every spell you play with the added benefit of 2 damage to all enemies. Then to have Mystic King auto end the game if it's destroyed? Yikes.

Also, this was Shion/Gentleman's second battle of the series and they've lost both. It's kind of ironic since they're supposed to be a Shadowverse genius. I hope they get some wins soon because I like their chess themed deck a lot.

Next week it looks like Light is back in the spotlight and battling the teacher? I can't wait. The scene with him and Dragnir trying to figure out his Dragon's hidden effect was funny to me cuz Light, just read the card description bruh

LOL @ that King card... it's pretty much a "stall card" with possibly the worst "last word" ever... LOL

___ ___ ___

Also, the entire battle felt like Tsubasa is somehow "bullying" Shion with words, LOL.

Tsubasa's true play style "beat them up while they're distracted, Psychological strat

I am not sure about that...

The way the series has been going, their world is different from the Mobile game in our world...

They showed us multiple times that players will discover new effects while playing... and there's a whole school for the game...

This means the cards themselves doesn't give out the full description of what the cards do, players have to figure it out themselves after trial and error.

(unlike our world, I don't think they give out a "Wiki" or "Guides" on the internet like we do, LOL) (probably all secretly blocked/ deleted/ censored so they can keep people coming to "schools" and to keep certain things a secret, like "ARC") (don't forget, Shadowverse in their world is bigger than the government...)

That makes sense and adds to the drama. I think it's just a feature of card game anime because when they show the cards there's usually no description area like tcg irl

Depends entirely on which one you're watching. Sure, Vanguard blanks its cards in advance for the english dub releases, but you should look at Build Divide, Battle Spirits or the JP versions of any Yugioh. All three of those have text on their cards.

That being said, SV cards NEVER had text on them, by virtue of it being a digital game. They're sequestered to separate boxes, so remove those and you get what you get.
