Welp a timeskip to end things, the final duel was Akebi vs Neru which is also how the manga started. It's a shame this got axed, I really liked this.

Yup.
Like Red Hood, we all knew that would be axed.
Sad.

Sad to think that author probably planned this story to show all Neru school years.

From what I remember author have still plans to show a little more story and extra in volumes so I wonder if it will be translated.

And sorry but how people can vote 1 or 2 for this chapter? It's (to some degree) no author fault that he needed squeeze 5 years and epilogue in one chapter.
Manga recommendation:
- Spy x Family (Ch.111/? - biweekly) | Sakamoto Days (Ch.198/? - weekly)
- MARRIAGETOXIN (Ch.115/? - weekly) | Machi and Oboro (Ch.20/? - biweekly)
- Make the Exorcist Fall in Love (Ch.84/? - biweekly)
- Monochrome Days (Ch.13/? - biweekly)
Anime recommendation:
- Deca-Dence (Finished) | Wave, Listen to Me! (Finished)
- If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die (Finished)
- Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater (Finished)

Since I started reading Shonen Jump weekly, this was the first time I was upset by a cancellation. Candy Flurry and Red Hood were both series I only kept reading because I figured they weren't surviving very long, and if it turned out they did, I probably would've dropped them. PPPPPP is in that boat as well, if it ends up near the bottom of the rankings I'll probably stick with it, but if it seems like it's going to carry on, I'll likely drop it.

Neru had it's dips in quality, and I think it had it's problems but it was one I was legitimately enjoying, and would've liked to see continue forward. The art was great and stood out from the rest of the line-up, and it was a pretty comfortably entertaining series, with some nice writing moments (the resolution to the Kaname arc was pretty good).

Despite liking the series more than Candy Flurry & Red Hood, though series handled their cancellations a lot better. In that both actually started building towards their ending, so that while it was still too quickly wrapped up, it felt more natural. Neru here doesn't feel like it remotely build to the ending, it all feels so abrupt here, like this is the final chapter to a series that had 100's of chapters before it. I can't be too critical since this was cancelled early, but I feel like Red Hood & Candy Flurry made the appropriate considerations to ease into this, whereas Neru just went on like business as usual only to dump a finale chapter.

As a final chapter, it works fine but it falters largely in ways that I think hurt the series in general, too many characters. The ending calling back to the first chapter with Neru vs. Akebi, and the Tengu mask makes sense, and works for a good full circle conclusion . . . only problem is their relationship, & Akebi as a whole is so woefully out of focus for all the interim chapters. Well, there's a bit in the first few chapters tbf, but still, she's pushed aside for a slew of new characters, being introduced at a consistent & rapid pace.

It's nice that the timeskip gave time to secondary characters and how they ended up, but most of them barely made any sort of appearance after their introductory chapters. Like I feel Toriichi got more here than he did in the series proper. He was the smart kid btw, I had to look up that name because again, very few of their characters got leave a lasting impact. Ryuzen & Kaname are the two since being introduced that fared the best, with Enkoji up there too (though not for the best). I can't help but wonder if the revolving door of new secondary characters hurt the series for readers.

I'm really wavering between a 5 & a 6, since I do think there were several missteps a long the way. Ultimately, I tend to lean towards the positives, so even though it started to lose me by the end and I think the final chapter is sort of a dud, I'll give it a 6. The artstyle helps a lot.

Nice closure, but this had so much more potential, I'll miss my weekly Neru dose for sure.

Wasn't too hot on the first few chapters, but was pretty fun after those. Just like Red Hood, I hope the author will succeed next time.

FMLLLL IT REALLY ENDED. so many things in this chapter that would've made us a lot more satisfied and proud if only we were shown more of it. Sigh, it was a good run ig. really really looking forward to more of the mangaka's works and im hoping the best for them

That ending was super confusing. Would've rather left on a cliffhanger then that time skip. Thought I was reading a completely different manga at first. Don't really disagree with this axe wasn't too much going for me. I'm still salty about them axing series like this and Red Hood instead of Me & Roboco or Highschool Family. Those gag humor series are getting old.

Half-interesting series. 4/10. I liked the time skip, just for the Neru vs Akebi. I don't think they could have made that happen without time skip. Not gonna miss this series.
