THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

After the crazy episode from last time, it's strangely amusing to see Rena like this again.

Looks like we got the start of a brand new arc with a lot of comedy for the first part. Keiichi and his little friends sure knows how to sitr up the entertainment. Also, Shion in that working outfit...damn, she looks fine. No wonder Keiichi teased about her.

What a light episode but I have a feeling serious business will pick up soon.

Watched at the office while my colleague was charged of airing it, it was fun!
This the gaming contest episode, nostalgia kicks in once again
It had a more moe touch, I personally enjoy it

I was surprised, he gave the doll to Mion,

I have to say enjoy this kind of maid, nice introdution for Shion
So many memories from 14 years old ago, I was just a watcher back then.

Keiichi is so lucky, I'd like to have such a bento made for me too.
Romance is in the air...

Lmao there was a Jousuke reference, Mion is here to save the day!
That was a stressful confrontation

Not a useful episode story-wise but it was very enjoyable

I don't understand, Shion or Mion. Why did Keiichi have to give the doll to Mion? Why didn't Keiichi give the doll to Rena, hhmm ...

It seems like that Sonozaki's clan is highly respected by everyone.

You are wellcome!

To be honest, evend though they are rewriting the story in this show, knowing well how tragic is Higurashi's plot, even this choice of giving the doll to Mion

Shion in maid outfit looked hot, specially those melons were big.

Once again, lighthearted start to an arc but we all know what's coming next.

Almost 90% percent sure that those eyebrows on the "Shion" in Angel Mort indicated that the person we saw is actually Mion.

Here comes the start of Watadamashi-hen, where Ryukishi07 deceived us again by giving some major plot changes. I'm not mad though lol it's really good since things in the next episode would against our expectations in an impactful way just like the last arc.

Shion isn’t in the credits for this episode so I’m 99 percent sure that the girl we saw in Angel mart was indeed Mion. I think Shion did show up at the end controlling the villagers. Nice episode as always, after last week’s emotional marathon it’s nice to get a chill/SoL episode.

***First - Timer

I have no idea. What I just witnessed. Man, this is weird!!

There is some kind of time loop reversal, which was told in ep 2 that there is some kind of multi-timeline conscious shift going on in Hanamizawa, and I don't understand what is going on right now, but I guess this is the part of the mystery.

Many things say that Keiichi is being treated as a special someone that has a sweet spot between insiders and outsiders as villagers raged towards thugs only. No one seemed to care about Keiichi's presence. And, I don't have much to say about that.

This episode had a kind of relaxing vibe similar to ep 1. So I guess they really have a reintroduction. But, Overall, this was a nice arc introduction episode as twins are already introduced in the ED.

Well Mion was very nervous every time Keichi was talking about Shion, so it has to be her.

Lovely episode. No opening funny enough for this episode. Maybe they’re changing it ? Who knows. But great introduction so far for the new arc. I am in love with the ending theme still. The visuals are amazing and the song choice is beautiful. The sonozaki twins are my fav characters.

Keiichi gave the doll to Mion! This changes absolutely everything and I have no idea how this arc's gonna play out now. Rika directly trying to avoid the original arcs is interesting. Let's see how it blows up in her face this time lmao

Another arc (Watadamashi-hen a.k.a Cotton-Deceiving Chapter), and it seems like everything's back to normal with another split storyline of timeloop reset.

Well...what a way for Keiichi to play dirty though, frugal of his cheeky style. The doll though sure is creepy, but I'm not sure whether handing it to Mion will bring any death flags. Re-emphasize, newcomer here, so might as well go figure and ham against the original.

Shion in the precarious maid outfit sure is sexy though.

The quest to find out the mystery of Mion/Shion, only in its infancy whilst theories and speculations are the norm to guess. The manipulation control of the villagers...that's just the first inning.

When comparing this to the VN, it's actually almost identical. The only part that was different was Keichi giving the doll to Mion(and we still don't see any changes after handing the doll).

Wait a minute, what if the plot twist is that giving the doll doesn't actually resolve anything and the events of the original Watanagashi-hen happen here again?

I think it's become abundantly clear that although this can appeal to new fans of the series, this has to be without a doubt a sequel to the original because although small, Rika seems to be changing events by giving Keiichi brief lines of dialogue that ultimately make his actions differ from what they were originally meant to be, which would lead to devastating outcomes, i'm really curious when this takes place, if it's after season 2 or 3 of the Original because to be honest, i'm still confused on what the canonical ending was for that. Curiously, i'm also looking forward to see where this is going now that the doll that was meant to start it all doesn't happen.

You could really see the “Hentai” of Passione studios only other works come through in this episode.

Still having trouble getting past everyone’s oily aesthetic and keiichi’s actor now being 50 and hearing it in his raspy cigarette voice. Would have enjoyed a younger recast bc it’s truly hard to get immersed every time he talks.

Intrigued none the less. Curious to see where it goes. 5/10 not bad, but not necessarily good either.

SPOILER : it’s a lot more blatantly obvious when Shion and Mion switch roles at school now. Even new comers could probably figure that out with even a minimal level of critical thinking.

Huh, interesting.
So Mion does end up with the doll immediatly - that's new. I'm also pretty sure that we didn't see Shion at all before the last scene and it was Mion all the other times (at least the last Shion actually was dressed the way Shion is usally dressed).
Even tho I'm still not sure about the new art style, I think they nailed Shions face when she confronted the bullies. Shion is my favorite, so I'm kinda excited to see what happens next :D

Spoilers for OG plot progression:

This makes sense, i never watched season 3 because i read somewhere it wasn't fully canon (except from the arc you mentioned, which if i recall, was the world that was caused by adult rika? or so it's theorized) and with the story already being confusing as it is, i didn't bother. But ultimately rika died there and ended up in the Matsuribayashi world again, is what you're saying? if that's the case, then thanks for helping me out.

Okay, here we go! Part of my favourite over-arching arc (this + the 4th arc, that is) from the OG Deen version, this.

Changes evident already as pointed out above, and I'm curious to see what further changes will take place. Rika-chan sharing a bit of her guidance certainly makes a whole lot of difference, good lord.

Just a couple of strange happenings, I suppose. "What is Rena's opposite side?" - Certainly a Qs to ponder upon. And that cliffhanger, tense...

Shion was amazing this episode though! Looking forward to more of her.

Yeah, the whole talk between Rena and Keiichi about people's hidden sides was in the VN and while it was a lot longer there it was basically the same in Gou.

I hate it how I still cant really be absolutely sure when they change, but I will bet that Shion only appeared at the end.
At the very least the "Shion" that brought the bento to Keichi was really Mion.

The "doll choice" was so intense for me. As others said it depends more on Shion's emotional state than who get the doll but it was still 2 very strong moments in the original arcs.

Theory:
Rena will have a different role now. There was this weird emphasis about how she actually is behind her "cover". It could have been treated as a joke, even if it references the events of the previous arc which were serious, but it just seemed kinda sus with Keichi's monologue.
So maybe the big twist is that Rena will be again victim of Oyashiro-sama's curse or will work with Shion?

And people not everything is a Jojo reference. Josuke wasnt the first high school character with a pompadour. ffs.
