I ran this scenario in my head. I had acknowledged it would be easy to kidnap Akagi. The machine can’t kill him in time. Thus, I wondered if he had a weapon with him, a gun or something. So here, when Harada suggested he’d simply take Akagi and save him by force, I expected him to pull out a gun and when he stuck his tongue out my first thought was cyanide. When he declared so boldly that he’d simply bite off his tongue it took me aback. As brutal as it was, it shows us that Akagi has thought everything through just as I have, he’s probably prepared for all the possible scenarios ahead of him. In a way, this could be seen as Akagi’s final game, an intellectual battle of fending off those who want to save him, be it through his own rules; his childish sensibility, or through abduction. The way he wins, is if he dies. It was a nice touch to play Harada and our sympathy by suggesting he’d regret not speaking to his two favourite boys. Something that would be quite crushing.

Harada’s interesting here. He is as forceful and brutal as ever, but rather than him being so to hurt someone, he is being that way to help someone, in his mind at least. Something clicked for him, he stated earlier that before this he thought those who want to die should die. There’s certainly something unexpected going on in his head.

Harada’s action here, assuming Akagi wants to live despite his stubborn demeanor and trying to force him to, reminds me of one of my favorite Luffy moments in One Piece:
