There were a lot of gambles made recently and they all paid off. The initial play into Ten’s sanankou, the choice to negate the draw and push for a hand with the support of a revelation, the crossroad swapping to tanyao and all that came with them. Hiroyuki has gotten out of the most dangerous territory and the means of which he did was wonderful. Harada deducted Hiroyuki’s hand and it’s possibilities, he eliminated all means that he could win by outside of the coincidental wins such as a haitei tsumo or houtei ron and even tried his best to eliminate these, leaving Hiroyuki completely helpless. It was admirable, he went the extra mile, making sure to hold onto tenpai as to avoid letting Hiroyuki get as many points as possible, to leave him in the most dangerous territory imaginable, perhaps even win through tsumo. Yet that decision to be extra safe led into a pon from Ten, and then a kan. A kan which allowed for Hiroyuki to win off of chankan. A yaku I honestly didn’t even understand until this chapter. The way Ten spoke out loud to tell Hiroyuki it was ready and their smiles after felt incredible. I think we saw Ten’s face as he realized the possibility when he called pon. Talk about teamwork!!!

"Robbing a Kan" - a yaku I have not seen in my 500 games of mahjong. Though to be fair, those games were also not between people cooperating :P. It was a nice way of bringing back Hiroyuki into the game and out of his predicament. And I love how he fought hard, first giving up his chiitoi after some painful wasted draws, then going for a fast tanyao, and then finishing it off with that magnificent combo play! I think he finally worked his way up into the ranks of Ten, Akagi, Harada and the other legends.

What an exciting turn of events!
