| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- Ken was powerful, bold and righteous. He had a good scheme and he planned that when, not if but when, he lost his hand he would win the game by using that time. He was willing to give up his hand for the win against the king and I respect that, but the answer, what if you are caught cheating, has been answered in a way for everyone to see. Harada made it absolutely clear that this is a game of life or death, if he is sure someone cheated he will kill them and search their body afterwards. Yet, knowing where the tile was, he swung and knew Ken would give up his left hand instead. He had him figured out and now everyone but the nutcases Soga and Akagi have to be nervous about cheating. But those two, they used the distraction to win their games, they held it together. That is some good build up, to show the composure and craftiness of both. And if I recall, Akagi pulls that trick early in the Akagi manga as well. :) “When you shoot a man dead with a gun it's a surprisingly quick death. But, with a blade, they tend to suffer more. That’s why there were always assistants for when a man committed seppuku. Even a man with a lot of courage will still writhe around and won’t die a manly death.” This line is so cool and wow, it was a good moment. It was just this clash of bold and even bolder. It also made me think of Kurosawa in the idea that samurai want to freaking survive too. Even the greatest of us are human. Ken, Kanamitsu, and Sakaguchi are out. |
