The chairman, who I think we lack the name of, and some words from Ten really describe how Akagi has been characterized so far. Firstly, the line:
  • " pure, high talent is accompanied by selfishness.”
And then the term, “childish sensibility” from Ten. I already described him as callous to be calling people worthless or idiots or retarded children and demanding food to be made just for him. Yet, to show his break as him taking a single bite then telling the others to eat it and crossing his legs like a child, well.. it went to the next level. He has been a being of desire and not much else thus far. As to begin with he came here, putting Sawada in a bad spot, not for money but to measure Ten and see if he’d be a worthwhile match. What appeals to him is all that seems to matter. I had compared him to Dracule Mihawk and while that is still super prevalent, Mihawk is very much a loner doing what he wants and only tolerating people that he sees value in from my understanding, not necessarily doing the Akagi and commanding those worthless children around.

To touch back on the idea of Akagi’s childish sensibility, I love that. Ten formed a strategy to beat the undefeated Akagi around the weakness that is Akagi wanting, not robotic wins, but to go all out. To strike his warrior’s heart at the core as the only chance for victory, it makes me think of Joseph and Wham from Jojo’s Battle Tendency! I suppose there is something charming about striking, not a tactical weakness or something one overlooks, but their essence. And although Akagi absolutely controlled the game, making every moment and every thought about him; even turning the others as they followed his discards like robots against Ten, Ten suggested that he caught onto something, that he’s going to counter attack in the upcoming rounds.

I went through a "chanta-only" phase for a day or so... it doesn't work like that lol. Though admittedly I am not super good at infering that much information by reading discards, other than for my own discard safety.

Akagi feels different from, well, the manga "Akagi". But then again he is much older here, and people do behave or present themselves differently as they grow older and are more experienced. Though we might stay the same at our core. And young Akagi definitely liked to toy with people :P Plus Ten's read on him at the end was pretty spot-on I feel like.

This manga is pretty exciting! So far it's not quite as over the top and drawn out as other works, but maybe that will happen in later chapters.
