This was easily my favorite chapter yet. It literally gave me chills at the end, like I felt awe and that's such an accomplishment. I honestly hardly know where to start, I want to mention so many different things and feelings. I suppose I’ll go through how nearly every character is going through their developmental peaks. Sonezaki, Hongou and Kazusa feel like different people from when they started and the reason why they do correlates through everything. All three of them have experienced feelings that changed the way they looked at the world. They read and they thought they understood things, yet none of them did at all. Sonezaki separated love and sexuality completely, she called sexuality purely literal, Hongou wrote her childish and cliched imaginations without having a conception on what was real using text chats for practice, and Kazusa thought she could avoid having adult feelings intrude on her life whatsoever. But through feeling these complex emotions regarding the people in their lives, their worlds have all been flipped upside down. Hongou is feeling what she understands as lust and through that she is able to communicate her soul through her words, she can make it feel real. Sonezaki had a moment of completely understanding Kazusa before she rejected her in the meeting and has embraced that she thought she knew what these feelings were until she felt them herself. And Kazusa is the greatest of them as she is literally trying articulate her feelings and where they come from. I feel her notebook that was breaking down how they worked was masterful at showing this idea:
  • Izumi fell on me > heart pumping > sexual desire?
  • interacted with many times > never had issues > from what age did desire awaken?
It inspired her to bring up her thoughts in the meeting and these thoughts are an intriguing thematic idea that has been recurrent. Where do love and lust or love and romance intersect? This goes back to Sugawara expressing that the person you would “do it” with is the person one loves- linking sexuality and love. We also had her explain the difference between desire and love, one desires chicken but doesn’t want all of the gross details- both theories can complement each other in that one can desire sexuality but not love the person, yet they are still linked. Kazusa’s parents love each other and she’s only here because they had ess ee cross! It all led to my favorite scene of the manga in the club meeting here. Kazusa suggested that it’s difficult to separate these things going so far as the only reason a mother loves her child is because [in most cases] the child came from the result of ess ee cross! When you love someone you want to touch them coming naturally from within, like how she probably felt when Izumi fell on top of her. It was a great showcase of her vulnerable but emotionally explosive personality where she can get lost in the moment and it had a wonderful laugh from Yamagishi but it ultimately led to seeing Sugawara and Izumi on the train together. I got chills here when Kazusa had to parse that Sugawara skipped and was happy with Izumi alone. It tied all the way back to the very beginning of the series, back when Sugawara said she wanted to have sex before she died. Freaking awesome!!

I must mentioned the other things here as well. Hongou has told Yamagishi about her newly discovered lust and made a move on him. The cliched and gross nature of highschool girls he mentioned may not be there for this real and unexpected experience Hongou has offered him. It too served as a reminder that writing this novel for whatever reason is incredibly important to her and that phone call was crushing. It was what made her want to go lose her virginity to begin with. She wants to learn how to be real…

We had an incredible moment where Izumi saw Asada picking on Sugawara and Sugawara totally owned the situation and told Asada to pay up. Sugawara continues to prove she is a bold queen. The Mcdonalds scene was great as well, seeing her drop the bomb that Kazusa likes him by accident was incredible, the shock on Izumi’s face and the embarrassment from realizing what she had done on Sugawara’s was perfection. To top it off, Izumi downed the fries in a moment that reminded me of FLCL for whatever reason, “woah...”. Unfortunately as Sugawara and Izumi were walking in the hallway I had hoped to gosh they wouldn’t get together. I’ve seen it before in a pretty popular anime, you probably know which one, where the boy goes to the girls friend for help on dealing with the girl and their friend and him end up getting together, hurting the initial girl. Please no…

Last but not least Amagi’s report was adorable. It made me tear up. I’m glad we were shown how cruel people could be to her in the past because it makes him seeing her as cute much more meaningful. We saw her pain first hand and he’s the one who let her know that she had it in her. All those words were washed away in a rain of cute! What an adorable relationship, to write a report full of “cute, ucte, and cuta” and hand it to her is as courageous as ever. I imagine him tearing through that thing all night and furiously writing cute over and over. <3 I hope Sone says yes!
