I somehow only just now noticed the train posters in Izumi’s room. That’s a cute detail. So yeah, Kazusa was hit hard hearing that Izumi doesn’t want to do her back. She feels a weird mix of love and lust and links them together, maybe because Sugawara did suggest the person a girl wants to do is the one they love, but it’s complicated for her. We had that cliched scene where Izumi fell on top of Kazusa but I thought it was incredibly well done here, the sexual tension created in some of these pages is seriously tangible, as was the later Hongou scene where she started to write about her first hand experiences discovering what lust was like(that’s some realism for you, she’s gonna become a hit author!!). Anyways, after that Kazusa had that adorable scene with her parents, I love the moments with them together. Here she accidentally let out some understandably edgy children's line about them never understanding her, something every kid thinks but every kid is ((normally)) wrong about and they were so upset. They just want to be there for her and for her to be happy!!! All in all though, it ended with Kazusa growing! She’s learned that avoiding thinking about these things doesn’t work so instead she’s grappling with her feelings. That is how you deal with them if you ask me, thinking about them and reading about them is a good start. It can even help Momoko out with hers regarding Sugimoto, BFFS!!!
Now, speaking of Sugimoto, I was freaking wrong about him. I will own up to that. I got some weird vibes from him and at the end of the scene when he asked to exchange contact information his face was covered in shadow which kept me feeling a little uncomfortable, something I largely think is intended to keep me in Momoko’s headspace. But overall, he seems like a great kid, one with some awkward smiles but regardless a great kid. He stood up for Momoko when she felt uncomfortable, and he showed their past was real with that adorable Momoko flashback. She was so strong, friendly but independent. She left a mark on him because she represented what he wanted to be as he was always so nervous about making friends. It all adds up, and of course anyone has to be utterly happy to hear someone was thinking about them like that. These two could make for a good pair of friends or more and its a twist on the typical childhood friend storyline. :)) By the way, I was nervous at first when they asked about karaoke! The first mention of it was in chapter 1 when some kids talked about a karaoke place where they could “do it”. I had to go back after the chapter and make sure they were different kids! And seeing Momoko awkwardly pulled along as she stumbled words trying to get the courage to speak up reminded me of how funny Kurosawa is in Shin Kurosawa when he’s being cluelessly dragged around by others, specifically when Boss first appears.
Sonezaki has still not been seen by the rest of the club! I find it awesome that she had a distinct design change(I always love those) and that the casts reactions to it are taking so long. It builds a sense of anticipation. Her section was nice. She’s been worrying that Amagi has forgotten about her and decided not to write the paper, like “how could he casually laugh with his friends in a time like this”?! But interrupted from her rage Juujou called her by a nickname and wanted to eat with her. I think this is the initial gyaru girl who bullied her in class and later made fun of her in the gym. The one who said that losing virginity is in the top 3 moments of a girls life before marriage and her funeral. She’s becoming a somewhat recurrent character and has taken some interest in Sonezaki, she has a question in mind. And those little moments like her being embarrassed about her food or feeling bad about the virginity comment give her some character. I wonder if she has a hard home life and that’s why she doesn’t normally have a lunch or something, either way I could see her becoming a homie later… But her role in the overall story is definitely curious it could go a few ways. The important thing however was how Sonezaki went to the roof all sad and Amagi met her there!! Please have the paper!!!
For two smaller moments that I want to make sure to mention, Sugawara had one where she called the Director disgusting. I wonder if he finalized her view of men. And as for the “Hushed Bus Gust”, my first instinct was that it was a tongue twister from when they were kids. |
